Chapter 23 Rainy Night Rescue, Confession, and Attack

Chapter 23 Rainy Night Rescue, Confession, and Attack

In the end, Gu Yiliu couldn't persuade Han Yi.

It wasn't just because having another person made things easier. It was also because she felt like her body was in a furnace, even her breath was hot.

She pressed Dian Dian for details.

Dian Dian: "It's cooling down, don't worry, it'll be done in 20 minutes."

"Is this how heat dissipates?" Gu Yiliu was a little frightened. With the heat on her body now, would she go crazy from the heat?

“…No, how could you be stupid with me here?” Dian Dian explained, “I’m just…too weak, that’s why you’re like this. This medicine also cost me a lot.”

Gu Yiliu pursed his lips, deciding not to think about it for the time being.

The two arrived at the alley outside the kitchen of Yipin Meiwei Restaurant.

The Yipin Restaurant has three floors, and the interior decoration is undoubtedly luxurious, as can be glimpsed from the balconies on the second and third floors. Gu Yiliu looked up at the two balconies, and a little further in was a glass door, and beyond that were probably private rooms. Whether they were or not, the style was quite high.

The second and third floors were now pitch black, and Gu Yiliu guessed that there was probably no one there.

As for the first floor, Gu Yiliu looked at the wall in front of him. It was very high, about the height of a floor.

She can now see the light shining through the wall and hear indistinct conversations inside; the people are probably in the kitchen, not in the open yard.

There are people here.

The vehicle that transported the animals is no longer there. According to the black cat, it and the other animals were transported by a vehicle to an alley and then taken to the kitchen, where it watched some of its companions being slaughtered. This must have been some time after the delivery was completed.

Gu Yiliu thought for a moment, then pointed to the top of the wall towards Han Yi.

Han Yi asked her what she wanted to do.

Gu Yiliu pointed to his eyes.

After she finished doing that, knowing that Han Yi understood, she closed the umbrella and gestured for him to squat down.

Han Yi's gaze fell on her umbrella. They couldn't possibly appear on the wall with an umbrella; it would only give them away. But it was raining so hard...

He bent down and squeezed under her umbrella, then took off his raincoat and draped it over her, pulling the hood of the raincoat tighter over her shoulders.

Gu Yiliu was momentarily stunned as he was enveloped in a warm, sun-kissed aura.

But she was actually very hot. She had a fever, and after taking some pills, her body was trying to dissipate the heat.

She knew he was worried about her getting wet in the rain. Gu Yiliu glanced at him, then closed the umbrella.

The rain drizzled down, soaking them. Aside from her face getting wet, and even the raindrops hitting her raincoat, Gu Yiliu felt quite cool.

She then pointed to the top of the wall.

Han Yi nodded, squatted down, patted her shoulder, and gestured for her to sit down.

Gu Yiliu didn't hesitate. He held her legs as she stood up, and her field of vision suddenly became higher. She panicked for a moment, but she knew that Han Yi was supporting her waist and holding her legs, so he wouldn't drop her.

Gu Yiliu gripped the top of the wall with both hands and looked into the courtyard, where there were four cages stacked together.

The four cages contained small animals: cats, chickens, dogs... a bag of snakes, and even a tiger cub.

Gu Yiliu gasped. Yipin Meishi Restaurant was too audacious. The tiger was obviously poached, and the snake couldn't have been raised by them. He wondered where they got so many wild animals.

The little animals in the cage started squealing as soon as they saw her.

"Meow?" Is that Officer Gu?

Gu Yiliu nodded and made a "shh" gesture to tell them to be quiet.

Gu Yiliu wiped the rain off his face to make his vision clearer.

There was a door in the yard that led directly to the kitchen, and she could see the stove from where she was standing.

She glanced towards the kitchen. Everyone inside was busy with their own things.

Since these animals had asked her for help, she had to rescue them. Gu Yiliu planned to secretly release them, and of course, teach Yipin Restaurant a lesson.

She looked at the gate leading from the courtyard to the alley. She had to open this gate; it was an iron gate. Iron gates were easy enough. Thanks to her superpower, she used it to unlock the gate. She had originally planned to use her power to cleave the gate open, but considering the noise would alert the people inside, she simply unlocked it. Only after unlocking it did she look at the cage.

The animals in the cage were astonished by her extraordinary ability, but they all remained remarkably silent, simply watching quietly.

With them cooperating so well, Gu Yilu quickened her pace in cutting the cages. Unlike the iron gate, which she simply unlocked, she didn't intend to leave the cages for them, so she directly cut a section in each of the four cages to allow the small animals to leave.

After cutting it open, she pointed to the doorway, signaling them to run away.

The little tiger ran off first, proving that it is indeed a clever and agile little tiger that has grown wildly.

Next came the dog, but after it escaped from its cage, Gu Yiliu looked at it again and realized it didn't look like a dog at all, but rather like a wolf...

The remaining chickens and cats were also very fast. As the black cat ran, it even bit the bag containing the snake and dragged it out.

Watching them all run away, Gu Yili moved her legs, signaling Han Yi to put her down.

Han Yi glanced at the wolves and tigers in front of him, pursed his lips, and finally regained his composure. He picked up Gu Yiliu and put her on the ground.

As soon as he stood on the ground, Gu Yiliu picked up the bag of snakes and whispered, "Let's go quickly."

Han Yi looked at the group of animals in front of him, but ultimately said nothing.

Walk ahead and lead the way for them.

The two of them, along with a wolf, a tiger, two cats, two chickens, and a bag of snakes, returned to Han Yi's maternal grandmother's house.

It was impossible for them to go back to the police station, and it was also impossible for Gu Yiliu to take them back to the hotel where they were staying.

"Won't it scare your grandma?" Standing at the door, Gu Yiliu asked softly as Han Yi opened the door.

"Don't worry, she went to visit my mom and won't be back until next month."

Gu Yiliu said "oh" and waited for him to open the door before gesturing for the animals behind her to go in. Only after they had all gone in did she enter.

Han Yi looked at the tiger and the wolf. The tiger was still small, so there was nothing to be afraid of. But the wolf in front of him looked a bit like a wolf and a bit like a dog. It was probably a wolf-dog hybrid, and it was quite large, more than twice the size of the tiger. It looked like it was an adult.

The chickens were wild too; Han Yi tried hard to match the chicken in front of him with its name. The cats looked like wildcats, one all black and the other tabby, but both were plump and strong. When they saw him looking at them, they cautiously backed away step by step.

But perhaps because Gu Yiliu was there, they didn't attack him, but instead tried to retreat.

Han Yi felt a headache coming on. He looked at Gu Yiliu.

"Has the fever gone down?" Han Yi walked over to her and reached out to check her temperature. Her hand was ice-cold, so it seemed that the fever had really gone down. But she had been caught in the rain and her clothes were still wet, so he was afraid that she would catch a cold and get a fever again.

"...Go change into some dry clothes first. I have a new uniform that I haven't worn yet, you can wear it for now. I'll make you some ginger soup in a bit, you can drink some." Han Yi put his hand down.

Gu Yiliu took off her raincoat. Her clothes were already wet before she put them on, and now they were half-dry and half-wet, sticking to her body and making her very uncomfortable.

Hearing his words, she nodded silently.

After Han Yi left, Gu Yiliu looked at the animals waiting for her to speak, "You... stay here for one night, and I'll take you to the zoo tomorrow, okay? But, it's agreed, I won't tie you up, but you can't hurt anyone."

"Meow meow!" Okay, Officer Gu, I'll listen to you.

"Roar!" Me too.

"Hiss!" Officer Gu, can you let us out?

Gu Yiliu only remembered that there were two snakes when he heard the sound of snakes.

She stammered, "Could you... just stay in the bag for now, or don't come out? I'm a little scared of you."

"Hiss hiss!" Okay...

"Chirp! Chirp!" Officer Gu, my companion has been killed by them.

Gu Yiliu looked at the chicken in front of him with its long tail and multicolored feathers, "What kind of chicken are you?"

"A seven-colored pheasant." The pheasant raised its head, quite pleased with itself. "Aren't my feathers beautiful?" Gu Yiliu nodded; they were indeed quite beautiful.

"The matter of Yipin Restaurant is not over yet. It is highly likely that they will not dare to catch wild animals again in the future, so you don't need to worry."

"What do you plan to do?" Han Yi came out and handed her a set of clothes.

“I know quite a few newspaper reporters, like Nie Wenxi and Yang Yin. Besides, our Forestry Bureau can’t let them get away with this. Just say they poached tigers. Tigers are a key protected rare and endangered species. As for this wolfhound, isn’t the Yaohai City Public Security Bureau looking to train police dogs? I think this wolfhound could be a police dog. You can ask it if you don’t believe me.”

Gu Yiliu looked at the wolfhound with a smile.

The wolfhound whimpered twice. Although it didn't quite understand what Officer Gu meant by "police dog," judging from Officer Gu's expression, being a police dog must be a good job, so it was willing.

Gu Yiliu's smile widened as he listened to what the wolfhound meant.

The wolfhound in front of me has a coat color between gray and yellow. It looks very strong and has experience in surviving in the wild. If it were to become a police dog, it would definitely be an invincible one. I wonder how many units would be vying for it.

"Okay, go change your wet clothes first." Seeing that she had a plan, Han Yi felt relieved and didn't ask any more questions. He went to the kitchen to make ginger soup.

Han Yi's clothes and pants were too big, especially the pants, which were so large and long that Gu Yiliu had to use a belt to tie them up several times to keep them from falling down. The pant legs were also rolled up several times.

"Drink it," Han Yi said, bringing out the ginger soup and gesturing for her to drink.

Gu Yiliu didn't say anything. She felt that the pills Dian Dian had given her were already working. After the fever subsided, her body felt warm and comfortable, so she didn't feel cold. But she still politely drank two sips.

"I've finished drinking."

Gu Yiliu shook his head.

Han Yi sighed, but did not force her to continue drinking.

He asked her, "Why didn't you go back to the outpost today?"

"It's raining, and the driver said he wouldn't go into the village, so we can only stay in the county town for the night."

"Did you get a fever today because you got caught in the rain?"

Gu Yiliu nodded.

He looked at her; the oversized uniform hung loosely on her, and her trousers were rolled up to her calves, revealing her slender ankles.

But the mosquitoes in summer are too rampant. They are so engrossed in the sweet smell of meat that they keep targeting her and biting her. She is also trying her best to swat at the mosquitoes.

Han Yi's deep gaze lingered on her ankle for a long time.

"What are you looking at? Stop staring at my feet!"

Han Yi looked up and smiled, "Oh, so you mean I can stare at your face?"

"..."

Gu Yiliu ignored him; things were getting complicated between them.

Han Yi got up, and Gu Yiliu didn't know where he went. When he came back, Gu Yiliu learned that he had gone to get mugwort to repel mosquitoes.

After doing all this, he sat down next to her and asked, "Yiliu, what does our relationship look like now?"

The mosquitoes stopped bothering her, but Han Yi kept pressing her for an answer. Gu Yiliu looked at the rain and said softly, "Have you ever thought that I'm not the Gu Yiliu you know...?"

Their relationship is too ambiguous!

Gu Yiliu looked at the dark, rainy night and sighed.

She thought she would have to wait a long time, but to her surprise, Han Yi answered almost as soon as she finished speaking.

"I've thought about it," Han Yi said, looking at her. She didn't look at him. He reached out and turned her face, just like when they watched a movie together last time.

"I've also been thinking about why you don't remember things from the past."

Gu Yiliu met his gaze.

"I have a question for you now. You don't remember nothing, right?"

Gu Yiliu instinctively wanted to shake his head, "I don't remember..."

Han Yi: "What are your parents' names?"

"Gu Pingshan, Wang Mei".

A smile appeared in Han Yi's eyes. Gu Yiliu was a little confused by his expression. Could it be that she was right?

But these were her parents in the apocalypse.

"Do you remember your brother's name?"

"Gu Jin?"

"You haven't forgotten everything."

Gu Yiliu didn't know what she was feeling. She was starting to doubt herself, but she didn't know why. Her mind was a mess. "My parents and my brother, are they really called by these names?"

"It's true, that's exactly what it says in the family information section of your registration booklet. I called the students who stayed on campus a while ago to ask." After hearing Gu Yiliu's words that she was unwilling to take responsibility, Han Yi thought a lot and this time he directly told her the truth.

Han Yi: "After you got your system, you probably felt like an outsider, occupying the original Gu Yiliu's body, right?"

Want to know what you were like during your four years of university?

Gu Yiliu frowned.

"You always seemed to be quietly lost in thought, never competing or vying for anything, but you always did your coursework very well. Compared to now, it's just that your personality is different, except for that night at the graduation banquet, when you were quite the same as you are now," Han Yi said.

"Perhaps you could ask your system what's going on."

Han Yi stood up and looked at the rain outside. The rain was getting heavier again, and he figured Gu Yiliu wouldn't be returning to the hotel tonight. "The guest room is on your right," he said, and then he left.

After everyone left, Gu Yiliu called out to Dian Dian, "System! Tell me what happened!"
