Chapter 80 Elephant Riot, Elephant Herd Kneels
Gu Yiliu introduced himself.
Then he said, “I was passing by and heard them crying and begging someone to let them go, so I came in to take a look.”
"You heard that? They're crying and begging?" Xu Jian asked, looking puzzled.
Gu Yiliu nodded, enduring Xu Jian's suspicious gaze.
At the same time, she gently patted Dongling with her hand behind his gaze, and Dongling cleverly understood what Gu Yiliu wanted her to do at that moment.
It raised its head and let out a long roar, as if sounding a signal, and the six elephants chained together let out mournful cries.
The voice was mournful and full of pleading.
"Puff puff puff puff puff puff—"
Xu Jian was shocked by what he saw. "They..." He could even see tears in the elephants' eyes.
He glanced at Gu Yiliu, and his expression changed repeatedly.
Finally, he turned and left.
Gu Yiliu guessed that he had gone back to call for help.
She patted Dongling's head, and Dongling blinked, tears streaming down her face.
"Puff puff puff?" Officer Gu, is this useful?
When Gu Yiliu heard Dongling ask her, she sighed, "I don't know. We'll only know if we try. I didn't see the baby elephant. It should be with them, or maybe it's locked up somewhere else. We need to find out where the baby elephant is first."
Dongling hugged Gu Yiliu with her long nose and continued to wail.
Xu Jian was indeed there to call for help; he arrived with three men.
"Director Yan, General Manager Qiu, General Manager Tan, take a look, they are too strange."
Having dealt with animals for many years, Director Yan knew exactly what was going on at a glance.
He ignored Xu Jian's words and looked at Gu Yiliu instead. "Comrade Gu, hello. I am Yan Shitong, the director of Jiangzhou Zoo. You just said that these elephants were crying and begging. Is that true?"
Gu Yiliu hummed in agreement, "I am Gu Yiliu, and I can speak animal language."
Yan Shitong nodded. "Comrade Gu, I know you." He was aware of Gu Yiliu's deeds.
Just know that.
Yan Shitong, however, was more concerned with another matter.
"What are they saying right now?"
Gu Yiliu understood immediately. She glanced at Dong Ling and the other elephants, and then asked Yan Shitong, "Director Yan, I want to know, where did you take the baby elephants?"
Yan Shitong was taken aback. “They are also in the zoo, but… they are a bit far from here.” He smiled at Gu Yiliu, not embarrassed but just polite, as if stating a fact. “Because if they are too close, it will cause the elephants to riot, and if we can’t stop them, accidents may happen.”
Gu Yiliu chuckled, feigning ignorance, "Why would it cause an elephant riot?"
Yan Shitong's smile faded slightly. "Comrade Gu, I want to know what these elephants are saying?"
"I wonder if I could know why you want to know what they are saying, Director?"
Yan Shitong sensed the veiled meaning in Gu Yiliu's words. He smiled and looked at the sharp-eyed young man before him. "Comrade Gu, perhaps you shouldn't be here?"
After saying this, he explained gently, "The baby elephants are also restless. They won't listen to our keepers' attempts to calm them down. I want to know why."
"After you know what they're saying, are you willing to let the mother and child reunite?" Gu Yiliu asked him in return.
"You've said so much already, but you still won't tell us. Is it really necessary to waste so much time on this nonsense?!" Before Yan Shitong could even get angry, President Qiu and President Tan beside him were already infuriated by Gu Yiliu's evasive tactics. President Qiu, in particular, was the first to lose his temper.
"If you don't want to tell us, just say so. Don't try anything funny!" Boss Tan said sternly. He was a rather strong and burly man.
His harsh words at this moment gave him an imposing aura, as if he might attack at the slightest provocation.
Gu Yiliu glared at him coldly, his eyes like knives. "What business is it of yours if I'm talking to the principal? What are you barking about?"
Before Mr. Tan could say anything more, Yan Shitong warned him, "Shut up!"
Yan Shitong: "We came here to take two baby elephants back, so we can't possibly return them to the herd."
As soon as these words were spoken, Dongling and the others cried out even more mournfully.
The roar of six elephants at once was so loud it hurt people's eardrums.
"Puff puff puff puff!" Give us back the baby elephant!
"They want you to return the baby elephant to them."
Yan Shitong frowned, then shook his head. "I'm sorry, I can't do that."
"This is robbery!" Gu Yiliu sneered.
Yan Shitong smiled gently, “The locals here are willing, and the government is also willing to let us take them away.”
"Comrade Gu, you can't change the fate of the two baby elephants on your own. I'm definitely going to take them back to Jiangzhou City."
Gu Yiliu pursed his lips.
"Moreover, once the baby elephants arrive in Jiangzhou City, they won't have to suffer in the wild and risk dying at any time. At the Jiangzhou City Zoo, they will have plenty of food and water, and will be cared for by zookeepers."
"Comrade Gu, I've come to ask you to convey my message to the elephant herd: if the parents of the baby elephants are worried, I can take them back with me."
Gu Yiliu looked at Yan Shitong, who glanced at her and then looked at the elephant herd.
"Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!" Officer Gu, is what he said true?
Gu Yiliu glanced at Dong Ling and sighed, "It should be true."
Gu Yiliu then looked at Yan Shitong and said, "Director, go and bring the baby elephant here. This is Dongling, the leader of the herd. They don't really believe what you say."
"If I have someone bring a baby elephant over, will they believe me?"
Gu Yiliu: "Bring them over first."
Yan Shitong nodded, "Okay!" He looked at President Qiu and President Tan and told them to bring the little elephant over immediately.
He instructed his two men, "Don't hurt them. Explain to them that you've brought them here to see their parents."
The two nodded, glanced at Gu Yiliu, and then left Elephant Garden.
Twenty minutes later, the two returned with two baby elephants.
The two baby elephants were in an iron cage and had been sobbing on the vehicle. They thought the people were lying to them. When they saw their parents, they cried out in surprise.
"Pfft!" Mom!
The two baby elephants kept banging against the iron cage, and when Dongling and the other elephants saw this, they also made thumping noises.
It was to appease the two baby elephants.
"Puff puff puff!" Kid, quiet down, quiet down, don't get excited! Wait for them to let you out!
The two baby elephants were released, and they happily rushed into the herd.
"Puff puff puff!" Mom! I miss you so much!
"Puff puff puff!" Mom, I'm so scared!
"Puff puff puff puff!" Don't be afraid!
"Now that the baby elephant is back, let's talk about taking it to the Jiangzhou Zoo."
The joyful atmosphere vanished instantly. The elephant herd fell silent; even the calves stopped crying, and they simply watched the humans who had captured them with fear.
“Jiangzhou Zoo does not have elephants. Many citizens are very well-mannered and interested in elephants. You can rest assured that I will take them back, and they will become the animal stars of the zoo. Everyone will love them. I can guarantee that they will not be abused.”
Gu Yiliu frowned. "How can you guarantee that? Changing the director will result in different management policies. Besides, the zoo is so small. They have to stay there their whole lives. How can that compare to the vast open space?"
Yan Shitong: "Before I step down as director, I will select someone with all the necessary abilities to take over. There's no need to worry about that. The zoo has more than just elephants. Comrade Gu is a good candidate..."
Yan Shitong suddenly froze as he spoke, staring blankly at the elephant herd.
Gu Yiliu also looked at the elephant herd and saw that Dongling and the others had knelt down in front of Yan Shitong.
"Puff puff puff puff puff!"
Director, please spare the baby elephants, spare them! They don't belong in iron cages!
