Chapter 40 The Sound Outside the Door (Revised)
Gu Yiliu felt that the system was very unreliable.
She always felt that its emergency response system was not as simple as it claimed.
However, Gu Yiliu was too lazy to delve into how complicated the system was.
She took the train back to Yaohai City, checked into a hotel, and waited for Han Yi to come find her. Just the second day after she checked in, Han Yi arrived.
"Is everything resolved?"
Han Yi returned travel-worn, and before he could even put down his luggage, he went to find Gu Yiliu.
As a result, the first thing she said upon meeting him was about the case, and she wouldn't even let him into her room.
Han Yi was helpless, but he still answered her question, "I guess so. There are still some loose ends that haven't been resolved, but I don't need to go anymore. I should be able to get a third-class merit this time. If I perform well this year, I should be able to apply for a transfer to Yaohai City next year."
"You've been wearing a bulletproof vest all this time?"
Han Yi shook his head, "I wore it at first, but later it was given to the leader in charge."
"Did something happen that made him put on the bulletproof vest?"
Han Yi glanced at her, nodded, and wondered how she knew. "The villagers from the trafficking village stopped us from taking away the trafficked women. They used knives, and the leader was stabbed twice in the heart. Luckily, he had a bulletproof vest, otherwise..."
“No wonder,” Gu Yiliu asked, “didn’t he say anything?”
Shaking his head, Han Yi said, "He won't say anything."
Gu Yiliu was a little confused, then heard Han Yi say, "He and my mother are classmates, and he talks to my mother about everything, so he won't say anything to outsiders."
After Han Yi finished speaking, he took out his room key and opened the door to the next room. "I'm going to wash up first, and then we'll have dinner together later."
"I thought you would go back to your home." Gu Yiliu said with a half-smile.
"I will go back."
Han Yi said casually, a hint of weariness in his voice. His parents already knew he was coming back for National Day and had even suggested he come home, but nothing beats being with Gu Yiliu.
Gu Yiliu watched him walk into the room. Once inside, he didn't close the door, as if waiting for her to enter.
Gu Yiliu stood at the door for a while, watching him come out again. She rolled her eyes at him and gave him a reproachful look before turning back to her room.
Han Yi's little scheme was seen through, and he chuckled softly before closing the door.
He was very hungry. After eating until he was about 70% full, Han Yi stopped. He had a lot to say to Gu Yiliu, and he talked about attending his classmate Yang Lian's wedding.
Have you met with Yang Lian and the others?
Gu Yiliu shook her head. She had no recollection of seeing him, so why should she? She would rely entirely on Han Yi to take her with her the day after tomorrow.
"I'm attending a wedding the day after tomorrow, so we're going to buy some new clothes later. I brought two outfits with me on my business trip."
Gu Yiliu had no objection: "Should we buy them any gifts?"
Han Yi shook his head, "No need, I've already prepared the gift. I'll just go to my mom's house to pick it up after I buy the clothes."
He looked at her intently.
Gu Yiliu picked up a cup of tea, took a sip, but the tea was too strong for her, so she quickly put it down.
"Are you full?"
Gu Yiliu nodded.
"Waiter, the bill, please."
The two left on foot and went to the mall.
Buying clothes is a very simple thing for Gu Yiliu.
Once you've chosen something you like, tried it on, and it fits, you can buy it. At Han Yi's insistence, Gu Yiliu also tried on several outfits.
However, while she bought them, Han Yi didn't have many suitable sets.
"They're too short. We can lengthen the hems, but it'll take two days. Is that alright, sir?" the saleswoman said with a smile, trying to persuade him to stay.
Han Yi took two steps forward and looked at himself in the mirror.
Hearing the sales assistant's words, he didn't speak, but looked at Gu Yiliu in the mirror, only to find her staring blankly at his feet.
Han Yi's eyebrows twitched, and he lifted his toes, his eyes fixed on Gu Yiliu. He noticed that as Han Yi lifted his toes, Gu Yiliu's eyes widened slightly.
He lifted his foot again, his leather shoes clattering on the floor, and then he walked a little further. Sure enough, he saw her eyes following him intently.
The sales assistant glanced at the two women's furtive glances, then at the other, and smiled silently.
Gu Yiliu's eyes were practically glued to Han Yi's feet. She looked at the section of his ankle peeking out from under his trouser leg; his calves were slender and long, encased in black socks, and his long Achilles tendons flexed and stretched, looking incredibly sexy.
"It's strangely beautiful," Gu Yiliu thought to himself.
“…Let’s try another one.” Gu Yiliu’s gaze left his ankle, and he spoke in a good mood.
If she tries more, she'll be able to take a few more glances.
Han Yi smiled and looked at the sales guide, "Okay, please lengthen it for me, expedite it, money is no object, I hope to get it tonight, okay?"
The sales assistant smiled and agreed, "Sure."
Gu Yiliu felt a little regretful, but she didn't show it and watched with a smile as Han Yi communicated with others.
After explaining the details to the sales assistant, Han Yi walked over to Gu Yiliu, pulled her along, and said, "Let's go, let's try a few more times at the next store."
"Um?"
"Didn't you tell me to try more?" Han Yi looked at her.
Gu Yiliu's smile revealed no flaws. "It requires more attempts."
"You enjoy watching me try on pants?"
He looked directly at her with a half-smile, "First-rate, tell the truth."
Gu Yiliu blinked, feeling something was off, as if there was something hidden in his words. She looked at him; his eyes were strange, and the corners of his mouth were odd, as if he were smiling.
"What happens if I lie? What happens if I tell the truth?" she asked tentatively.
"To be honest, I'll try a few more times."
He gave her a big smile.
Gu Yiliu's face flushed instantly. She swallowed hard, her eyes darting around before drifting back to his lap. "This, I'll definitely like it." She now knew that Han Yi had definitely noticed what she was looking at.
"oh."
Han Yi was overjoyed; he now knew how to behave in front of Gu Yiliu.
He drew out the "oh" sound, and then Gu Yiliu felt a tightening on his wrist, and his body moved forward.
Han Yi pulled her along quickly into a clothing store, saying, "You pick out the clothes, I'll try them on."
Gu Yiliu felt her face burning, but her heart was soaring.
Ten minutes later, the two came out of the store carrying their shopping bags and went into the next store.
We tried it until we were completely satisfied. It was already afternoon.
After leaving the mall, Han Yi hailed a taxi and gave the driver an address.
Gu Yiliu glanced at him. She knew where they were going next.
Han Yi played with her hand. "Looks like I need to buy a car, otherwise it's too inconvenient to get around." Like when I'm tired from shopping, it would be so much more comfortable to have a car to sit in.
"After we attend Yang Lian's wedding, let's buy a car."
Gu Yiliu's heart skipped a beat, and he forgot what he was going to say. "...It's too expensive."
Han Yi squeezed her hand, saying that he would definitely buy it, "Don't worry."
As they were talking, the taxi quickly took them to their destination: a residential area.
"It's not really appropriate to come to your house empty-handed..."
Han Yi: "Who said you'd go empty-handed?"
Han Yi pulled a bottle of wine from dozens of shopping bags. "I bought this while you were trying on clothes. Don't worry, it's my dad's favorite."
Seemingly knowing what she wanted to say, he added, "Don't worry, my mom has one too." He then pulled out a silk scarf.
“They might not be home right now because they're at work, but it's okay. When they come back, I'll tell them it was you who delivered it.”
"..."
The Han family lived on the third floor, and Han Yi's parents were indeed not home.
Gu Yiliu couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Han Yi saw this action clearly, and he frowned, "You really don't want to meet my parents?"
"No," Gu Yiliu laughed. "I just think it's too fast." She was nervous too, you know!
"No rush." Han Yi put down what he was holding, his face serious. "However, I should visit your parents first, and then I'll take you home to meet my parents. I'd like to visit your parents sometime."
How about going during the Chinese New Year?
Gu Yiliu said "Oh" and did not refuse. "As long as you are willing, it's fine. Although my home is in a small county, it is much more backward than Dongshan County. There is no train, and you have to transfer several times to get back."
She looked at him with a smile.
Han Yi was delighted to have her consent; he had been quite afraid of her rejection. What did it matter if they went back and forth a few times? He wasn't afraid.
"This is a test from God for me."
He smiled, cupped her face in his hands, and kissed her.
Seeing that she didn't refuse, his lips slowly moved to hers.
He licked her once, glanced at her, and sighed inwardly. He stood on tiptoe and held onto her shoulder, turning the tables and taking the initiative.
Suddenly, someone grabbed his lower back and hugged him. Gu Yiliu let out a soft groan as someone roughly kissed his lips a few times.
Then she was suddenly pushed away by the man. She looked at Han Yi in astonishment and confusion, her face still warm with the lingering emotions.
"We can't kiss here." The tone was extremely suppressed.
Before Gu Yiliu could react, the man picked her up and quickly walked into a room.
The door opened and closed in one smooth motion.
Gu Yiliu was pinned against the door, the man's face drawing near, their touch lingering.
His burning lips and tongue landed on the slender white neck. Gu Yiliu's hands, which were supporting him on the man's chest, fell limply, but were quickly lifted up by the large hand and held tightly together.
An ambiguous atmosphere floated in the quiet space.
After a while, Han Yi placed the exhausted Gu Yiliu on the bed and then stormed out of the room alone.
Gu Yiliu tried to calm his breathing, and when he stepped back onto the ground, he still felt lightheaded.
There was a noise at the door. Gu Yiliu looked over and saw Han Yi's hair dripping water, his face wet, the water droplets like diamonds, which only made his face more captivating.
He came in and handed her a glass of water.
Gu Yiliu was indeed thirsty, so he took the drink, tilted his head back, and drank it all in one gulp.
"Would you like to rest for a while before you go?"
Gu Yiliu choked a little; how could she possibly rest well here? "I'll go wash my face and then leave."
Han Yi hummed in agreement.
There was a bathroom in Han Yi's room, and Gu Yiliu quickly went inside.
Looking at his flushed cheeks in the mirror, Gu Yiliu took a deep breath and washed his face with water.
After washing her face, she looked closely at her neck in the mirror and saw no marks. She breathed a sigh of relief.
When she came out of the bathroom, Han Yi was no longer in the room. She looked around his room.
The room was large, clean, and tidy, with only a bed, wardrobe, and bookcase, and nothing else.
She walked to the door and was about to open it when she heard two unfamiliar voices outside. She stopped abruptly.
Could it be such a coincidence?
