Chapter 34 is because they didn't want me to pick up other people...
Gu Shiyue looked at Jiang Luo quietly, then took a step forward in front of him.
Jiang Luo's eyelashes trembled, and she reflexively took a step back. She didn't know if she had stepped on a mechanism, but with a "bang," a dummy suddenly fell from the openwork of the ceiling, plummeting headfirst, its feet caught, dangling in mid-air, missing an arm.
Jiang Luo was startled when her attention was abruptly interrupted.
The props in this escape room were all very realistic. Although it was a mannequin, it looked quite heavy, slowly rotating in the air. This really wasn't a place to talk. Jiang Luo sighed and said to Gu Shiyue, "Senior... let's solve the puzzle and get out of here first."
Indeed, there's no atmosphere to talk about here. Gu Shiyue hummed in agreement.
The two escaped in no time. The staff had never encountered players who could find clues and get out so quickly on their own before, and they gave them a thumbs up, praising them as "awesome." The two had planned to have dinner together today, but as soon as Gu Shiyue entered the elevator, he received a phone call, and his expression turned somewhat serious.
How is he now?
Which hospital?
"knew."
Gu Shiyue hung up the phone, his brows slightly furrowed. Jiang Luo asked him, "What's wrong?"
"My uncle has a stomach hemorrhage and is currently in the hospital."
Jiang Luo was taken aback: "Is it serious?"
"I'm not sure yet." Gu Shiyue glanced at him. "I have to go to the hospital, so I can't have dinner with you."
Jiang Luo nodded: "Go ahead."
"I'll take you back to school first."
"No need, no need, you can go directly there, I can go back by myself."
"It won't take long, let's go."
Gu Shiyue first took Jiang Luo back to school. He dropped Jiang Luo off at the school gate, and Jiang Luo unbuckled her seatbelt: "Go on your way, drive carefully."
Just as Jiang Luo was about to open the door and get out of the car, she suddenly heard Gu Shiyue say, "Could you leave all your commissions to me?"
Jiang Luo paused, turning to look at him: "Wh...what?"
Gu Shiyue turned to look at him: "I want to buy out your commission, is that alright?"
Jiang Luo paused for a moment, her grip on the bag strap tightening slightly: "Senior, you want to buy out... is it because you don't want me to take on other people's cases?"
"yes."
Jiang Luo's heart skipped a beat, and he whispered, "I won't take on any more commissions from other people in the future, so you don't need to buy it out." He paused for a moment, looked into Gu Shiyue's eyes, and his ears gradually turned red: "Besides, you don't need to buy it out either. My time... I can give it all to you."
Jiang Luo's face was already bright red, but it wasn't obvious because of the foundation; only a faint blush showed through her fair skin.
Before Gu Shiyue could speak, Jiang Luo opened the door and got out of the car: "I...I'm leaving first, senior."
Not wanting to delay Gu Shiyue's visit to his uncle, he closed the door and hurriedly left, running faster than a rabbit.
It's always like this; they say something and then run away.
Gu Shiyue sat in the car, silently watching Jiang Luo's departing figure.
Gu Shiyue drove to the hospital. When he entered the ward, Liang Siheng was still on the phone, leaning against the bed with an IV drip in his left hand.
Liang Siheng noticed that Gu Shiyue was visibly startled. He turned to look at his assistant standing by the bed, who lowered his head slightly.
Liang Siheng hung up the phone and glanced at his assistant: "Didn't I tell you not to let him know? Did you ignore my words? Do you want to quit?"
The assistant lowered his head and said, "I wouldn't dare. I'm just worried about your health."
Liang Siheng was rushed to the hospital today due to a stomach hemorrhage. Knowing him as his assistant does, he won't stay in the hospital until tomorrow; he'll have to be discharged. Aside from his nephew, he doesn't listen to anyone. A stomach hemorrhage is no minor illness; he needs to rest and recover properly.
Liang Siheng threw his phone on the bedside table: "You've gone to such lengths, and you still don't dare?"
"There's nothing I can do, you won't listen to me."
Liang Siheng scoffed, "I'm the boss and you're the boss? You expect me to listen to you? You've gone too far!"
The assistant kept his head down: "I wouldn't dare."
"Don't try to fool me." Liang Siheng raised his chin. "Get out. I don't want to see you."
"Okay." The assistant bowed respectfully and turned to walk towards the door.
Gu Shiyue called out to him, "Where's the report?"
The assistant took out several sheets from his briefcase and handed them to Gu Shiyue: "He needs to fast and rest for the next few days."
Gu Shiyue nodded, took the form, and looked at it.
Liang Siheng lay on the bed, his face a little pale. Gu Shiyue raised his eyelids and glanced at him.
"The older he gets, the less manners he has. He doesn't even know to greet me when he sees me." Liang Siheng reached out and touched the cigarette pack on the bedside table.
Gu Shiyue walked over and took the cigarette pack from his hand.
Liang Siheng hissed, "This is a VIP ward. Smoking won't bother anyone else."
"You started smoking when you were sick, did the doctor teach you to?"
“I have a stomach problem. Smoking affects my lungs, not my stomach.” Liang Siheng beckoned with his finger, “Give me the cigarette.”
"You still know you have a stomach problem." Gu Shiyue threw the cigarette pack into the trash can.
"Sigh... Sigh..."
Gu Shiyue frowned: "How could you suddenly have a stomach hemorrhage? How much alcohol did you drink?"
Liang Siheng leaned his head against the pillow: "It's an old problem, don't worry, I won't die."
Leung Si-hang has many business engagements and irregular eating habits. He also likes to drink alcohol, so he has always had a bad stomach.
Gu Shiyue sat down on the chair next to him and continued looking at the form in his hand.
“I’m hungry, get me something to eat,” Liang Siheng said.
You can't eat right now.
"My stomach is so empty and I feel uncomfortable. Could you make me some porridge?"
Gu Shiyue didn't even look up: "No."
Liang Siheng called out to the door, "Assistant Qi."
The assistant was right outside the door and appeared as soon as he was called: "Mr. Liang, what is it?"
"I want to drink porridge."
"You cannot eat now."
"I'm starving to death, are you going to care?"
"I--"
“You’re on a glucose drip right now to replenish your energy,” Gu Shiyue said, “which can sustain your basic life.”
Assistant Qi chuckled, "That's how it is. Just bear with it a little longer, you can start eating in four days."
Liang Siheng lay down, pulled the blanket over his face, and muffled his voice from under the blanket: "Get out."
Assistant Qi smiled as he stood at the door: "President Liang, I was already outside."
Don't try to talk your way out of this.
"I wouldn't dare."
Gu Shiyue looked up at Assistant Qi and said, "Assistant Qi, don't spoil him too much."
"What the hell?" Liang Siheng threw off the blanket and glared at Gu Shiyue.
Liang Siheng is already thirty-seven years old, but he is still so childish in his daily life. It's all because his top assistant spoils him.
Assistant Qi smiled at Gu Shiyue: "Not really."
“I don’t see him often. You’re the only one by his side, and you’re the only one who can take care of him.”
Assistant Qi nodded: "I understand what you mean."
"Hard."
"Of course."
Gu Shiyue's phone rang. He took it out and glanced at it. It was a message from Jiang Luo: Senior, have you arrived at the hospital yet?
Gu Shiyue: We've arrived.
Jiang Luo: How is your uncle?
Gu Shiyue: It's nothing serious, you just need to stay in the hospital and rest for a few days.
Jiang Luo: That's good.
Liang Siheng glanced at him and asked, "You're replying to messages so frequently, is it that pretty girl from last time?"
Gu Shiyue looked up at him and said, "His name is Jiang Luo."
"Oh, it really is." Liang Siheng waved his hand. "You don't need to stay here with me. Go do whatever you need to do and find your little beauty."
"If I don't stay here, you can run away by midnight tonight."
Liang Siheng laughed out loud: "You know me quite well."
Gu Shiyue stood up and slowed down the IV drip for him: "Otherwise, why do you think Assistant Qi would come to me?"
"Hey, don't slow it down so much."
The drip rate was clearly adjusted by Liang Siheng himself; it was dripping extremely fast. Gu Shiyue said, "Why don't you just take the bottle off and drink directly from it?"
Liang Siheng shrugged and chuckled, "I'd like to too."
Gu Shiyue didn't stay with his uncle for too long; he left around 8 PM. His uncle had Assistant Qi with him, and Assistant Qi would contact him if needed. Gu Shiyue was Assistant Qi's chosen one; with his nephew supervising him, his uncle would be more likely to listen to him.
Gu Shiyue ordered food to be delivered to his home and ate dinner there.
After he got home, he received another message from Jiang Luo: Senior, have you had dinner yet?
Gu Shiyue: Eating
Jiang Luo: Okay
Gu Shiyue: Shall we have dinner together tomorrow night?
Jiang Luo: The school team is going to participate in a competition soon, so they need to do extra training during this period. I might be a little busy these few days. [flipping fingers.jpg]
Gu Shiyue: What competition?
Jiang Luo: It's an algorithm competition~
Gu Shiyue: When?
Jiangluo: The Saturday after next
Gu Shiyue: Okay, then you go ahead and do your thing.
Jiang Luo: Mm
Because Jiang Luo was in intensive training for the competition, Gu Shiyue didn't want to disturb him and hadn't contacted him. Jiang Luo also rarely contacted him online, practically disappearing altogether. The two hadn't seen each other for over a week. Jiang Luo was indeed too busy; his time outside of classes was completely filled with training, leaving him no time to spare.
After class that day, Jiang Luo went back to his dorm to get his things, planning to go straight to the lab after dinner. As he slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked out of the dorm, Cheng Jiashu sent him a WeChat message, inviting him to dinner.
Jiang Luo replied while walking: No time, I have to go to the lab to do some practice problems later.
Cheng Jiashu: You're so busy, you don't even have time to eat a meal.
Cheng Jiashu: Oh right, I saw Yue Ge playing basketball on the playground today.
Cheng Jiashu: He was hit by a fat man.
Jiang Luo: ? ? ?
Jiang Luo: Did you get bumped while playing ball?
Cheng Jiashu: Yes
Jiang Luo: Is he injured?
Cheng Jiashu: I fell and slipped. I went over to check on him, and it wasn't anything serious, just a few scrapes on his hand.
Jiang Luo immediately called Gu Shiyue.
Gu Shiyue had just arrived home when he put a harness on Miantuan and was about to take it downstairs for a walk.
The phone rang. Gu Shiyue stared at the name on the screen for a few seconds before answering the call.
"Hello?"
"Senior, are you alright?" Jiang Luo's voice sounded a little anxious. "Da Shu said you were hit by someone while playing basketball today. Are you injured? Is it serious?"
"It's just a minor scrape on my hand, nothing serious."
"No other injuries?"
"No."
Jiang Luo was relieved: "Has the wound been disinfected?"
"Um."
Gu Shiyue hadn't heard his voice for over a week.
Gu Shiyue sat in the entryway, looking down and stroking the head of the cotton ball. The cotton ball's fur was soft and fluffy, gently rubbing against his palm.
Jiang Luo's voice was like soft down, gently brushing against his heart.
"Luo Zai." Another boy's voice came from the other end of the phone, not loud, as if it came from a distance.
Jiang Luo turned his head, and Qin Yifan waved and walked quickly toward him.
Jiang Luo called out, "Captain."
Qin Yifan is the captain of the algorithm competition team. He is Jiang Luo's senior in the same department as Jiang Luo, and they live in the same dormitory building. During these few days of intensive training, Jiang Luo has been spending most of his time with Qin Yifan. They are about to go out for dinner together now.
Algorithm competitions are generally team competitions, with each team consisting of three members. In regional competitions, a school can send one or more teams, depending on the school's past competition results and the region's quota allocation rules. Team members representing the school in the official competition are selected through a process of elimination. Jiang Luo and Qin Yifan were among them. Their team also included Zhou Ting, Qin Yifan's classmate. Zhou Ting was a rather individualistic, aloof, and taciturn person who preferred to keep to himself; he was only seen during training sessions.
"Are you making a phone call?" Qin Yifan asked.
"Ah, wait a minute."
"OK."
Jiang Luo turned to Gu Shiyue on the phone and said, "Senior, I'm going to eat first. We'll talk later."
"Where are you?"
"Me? I'm in my dorm right now, just about to go out for dinner," Jiang Luo explained. "Oh, that was my school team captain, he came looking for me."
"Okay, let's go eat."
"Okay. Be careful with your wound, it's best not to get it wet."
"Yes, I know."
"Then I'll hang up, bye senior."
Jiang Luo disappeared for another week, during which time he only contacted Gu Shiyue three times, each time inquiring about Gu Shiyue's injuries. Gu Shiyue wasn't a big fan of WeChat; he preferred meeting in person to online communication. He rarely initiated conversations with Jiang Luo before, and now that Jiang Luo was preparing for the competition, he was even less likely to bother him.
Gu Shiyue is currently preparing his graduation project proposal and spends almost every day in the lab. Xiang Qin has also been accepted into a graduate program and shares the same advisor as Gu Shiyue. The two of them have already joined the research group and have their own workstations in the lab.
Xiang Qin sat opposite Gu Shiyue. He got up to pour himself a glass of water, then walked over and glanced at Gu Shiyue's computer: "Doing numerical simulations and designing experiments at the same time? You're too awesome."
"Sigh, I can't handle both at the same time, I'm too tired." Xiang Qin sat down. "Didn't Lao Xia need you to help him write something?"
Gu Shiyue stared at the computer screen and typed "Hmm".
"As expected, there are differences between immortals and humans; you are truly not human."
Gu Shiyue looked up at him.
Xiang Qin took a sip of water and smiled: "It's a compliment, not a derogatory one."
Xiang Qin took out his phone and saw a post Jiang Luo had just made on WeChat Moments.
"Jiang Luo is pretty impressive," Xiang Qin said, looking at his phone.
Gu Shiyue raised his head upon hearing this.
Xiang Qin looked up at him and asked, "Is he on the school's ACM team?"
How did you know?
Xiang Qin held up his phone: "He just posted something on his WeChat Moments."
"What did they send?"
"See for yourself," Xiang Qin laughed. "Do I have to relay it to you?"
Gu Shiyue never usually checks his WeChat Moments, but he picked up his phone and glanced at it. It was almost 11 o'clock, and there were very few posts on Moments at this hour. The latest post he saw was from Jiang Luo.
He posted a photo of a corner of a computer screen filled with code. The caption read: "Looks like he's coding, but he's actually been gone for a while."
This is a desktop computer; it should be in the school team's lab.
Qi Xueying commented below: Still typing so late?
Jiang Luo replied: Yeah, the competition is coming up soon, so I'm practicing coding problems =w=
Gu Shiyue hadn't seen Jiang Luo for half a month. Not long after Xiang Qin left, he also left the laboratory.
It was already 11:30, but Gu Shiyue didn't head towards the school gate; instead, he went to the School of Computer Science.
He didn't know if Jiang Luo was still there, nor did he send him a WeChat message to ask. He just wanted to go and see him, and the moment the thought came to him, he went straight there.
A few offices in the Computer Science building still had lights on, but the lobby on the first floor was dark. The streetlights at the entrance were old and dilapidated, and were further obscured by leaves, making the outside of the building very dark.
Gu Shiyue stood outside the building for a while. It was already winter, and the temperature was very low at night.
Gu Shiyue didn't expect to see Jiang Luo here. When he got here, he didn't even know what he was thinking.
But he still stood under the tree and waited for a while.
Not long after, two figures walked out of the building.
Gu Shiyue recognized Jiang Luo. He wasn't alone; his captain, the one who called him "Luo Zai," was with him.
"Let's go, I'll treat you to a late-night snack." Qin Yifan put his arm around Jiang Luo's shoulder. "What do you want to eat?"
Jiang Luo thought for a moment and joked, "Right now I just want to eat a cream cake, a birthday cake, a six-inch one will do."
Qin Yifan chuckled: "Where am I supposed to get you a birthday cake at this hour? And a six-inch one at that? You've got quite a few requirements."
Jiang Luo yawned: "I'll listen to the captain. I'll eat whatever the captain eats. I won't be picky."
"I'll get you a birthday cake after the competition is over, and I'll get you an eight-inch one."
"Isn't that too extravagant?" Jiang Luo said with a smile.
"As long as you have the brand, what's a small eight-inch cake?"
"What if it's a misfire..."
秦一帆“啧”了声,拍了一下他的脑袋:“能不能说点好的。指着你成为校队支柱呢,说这话,简直欠揍。”
"I was wrong." Jiang Luo scratched his head. "You're putting a lot of pressure on me as a captain."
"Pressure is motivation. You have to give it your all for an eight-inch cake, right?"
Jiang Luo smiled: "Okay, I'll do my best for an eight-inch cake."
The surrounding light was dim, and Jiang Luo was already a little drowsy and didn't notice Gu Shiyue under the tree in the distance. He and Qin Yifan were chatting and laughing as they turned into a road on the right.
The night wind rustled the leaves, and the two figures quickly disappeared from Gu Shiyue's sight.
