Chapter 9 You should just hire me. [Pity]

After finishing the cake, everyone made a fuss for a while before the party ended. Qi Xueying was driven home by her friend, while Gu Shiyue was responsible for taking Jiang Luo and Cheng Jiashu back to school.

Cheng Jiashu opened the door and got into the car. It wouldn't be very polite for both of them to sit in the back seat, making Gu Shiyue, who was taking them home, seem like a personal chauffeur. So Jiang Luo walked to the window and asked Gu Shiyue, "Senior, may I sit in the passenger seat?"

Gu Shiyue nodded.

As Jiang Luo got into the car and fastened her seatbelt, she heard Gu Shiyue say, "Just sit down, why are you asking me what I'm doing?"

Jiang Luo smiled and said, "What if you don't like someone sitting next to you? I'd like to ask for your opinion beforehand."

Gu Shiyue said, "Then why don't you sit in the back? You didn't even ask for my opinion."

In fact, Gu Shiyue knew why Jiang Luo was sitting in the passenger seat; he just wanted to see how Jiang Luo would respond.

Jiang Luo chuckled and said, "Sitting in the back feels too distant; it's inconvenient to talk to you."

Jiang Luo was naturally a bit outgoing, and his good impression of Gu Shiyue further encouraged him to actively close the distance between them. Once they were closer, his conversation became somewhat incoherent. Jiang Luo was indeed quite extroverted, but he wasn't like that with everyone. He felt Gu Shiyue was a good person and they clicked, so he wanted to be close to him. For example, just now, and now, his conversation with Gu Shiyue had been somewhat intimate, which was unconscious.

Cheng Jiashu had drunk quite a bit today, but he wasn't drunk; he was quite sober, though he was very talkative, chatting more than usual. He sat in the middle of the back row, leaning against the back of his chair, chatting with Gu Shiyue. After introducing his and Jiang Luo's majors, he asked Gu Shiyue what his major was.

“Flight design,” Gu Shiyue said.

Cheng Jiashu didn't understand: "What?"

"Aircraft Design and Engineering," Gu Shiyue stated the full title.

Cheng Jiashu was stunned for a moment before he realized: "Holy crap, that's amazing."

This is their school's flagship program, highly prestigious, with high admission scores, making it very difficult to get in.

Jiang Luo turned to look at Gu Shiyue: "Amazing."

Gu Shiyue glanced at him sideways, while Jiang Luo looked at him with sparkling eyes. This natural flatterer was once again showering his senior with compliments, and it was genuinely heartfelt.

Cheng Jiashu was too talkative. Halfway there, Jiang Luo was worried that he would affect Gu Shiyue's driving, so she said, "Take a break. Don't keep talking to him. It's not safe for your senior to be driving."

"Alright, alright, I won't say anymore." Cheng Jiashu obediently sat back down.

Jiang Luo had just said that he was sitting in the passenger seat so that he could talk to Gu Shiyue, but he barely said a few words; it was Cheng Jiashu who did all the talking.

"Oh, right." Cheng Jiashu suddenly remembered something and said to Gu Shiyue, "Brother Yue, can you drop me off at Jinyuan Community later? It's the Jinyuan Community near our school. You can get there quickly if you follow the current route. I'm not going back to school today."

Gu Shiyue hummed in agreement.

"Hey, Yue-ge," Cheng Jiashu said, patting Jiang Luo on the shoulder. "Come to my place today, let's play games."

Jiang Luo said, "What time is it? You're still playing games."

"Just kidding, tomorrow's Saturday, I'm sleepless tonight, I'll fight until dawn."

Jiang Luo was also exasperated with this internet-addicted teenager: "I'm not going. I have to get up early to work tomorrow."

"Why do you have to work again? Didn't you not have to go to the coffee shop this week?"

"Since I was idle anyway, I found a part-time job."

"I'm truly impressed." Cheng Jiashu reached out and patted him on the forehead. "You should give yourself a break too."

Gu Shiyue dropped Cheng Jiashu off at Jinyuan Residential Area halfway there, and then took Jiang Luo back to school. It wasn't troublesome for him to take the two of them, as it was on his way, but he didn't get home until 12:30.

Gu Shiyue entered the room and changed his shoes. Mian Tuan heard the noise and slowly walked over, stretching out its rear end in front of him. Mian Tuan was his mother's cat when she was alive. It was an elderly but healthy and plump Ragdoll. His mother had passed away many years ago, and Gu Shiyue had been taking care of Mian Tuan ever since.

Gu Shiyue bent down and scratched Miantuan's chin. Miantuan squinted and rolled over onto the floor, lying on its back with its four paws in the air, begging for a pat. Gu Shiyue bent his index finger and casually scraped its belly before walking straight into the living room.

Gu Shiyue wasn't exactly a cat lover; his affection for Miantuan stemmed from his fondness for Miantuan. Miantuan's clingy nature was like a flirtatious wink to a blind man—a couple of pats and it was done.

It wasn't easy for the old fat cat to roll over, so it struggled to its feet, meowing as it followed Gu Shiyue.

Gu Shiyue went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water. His phone vibrated in his pocket. It was a call from Qi Xueying.

"Brother, are you home yet?" Qi Xueying asked.

"arrive."

Qi Xueying had already contacted Jiang Luo and Cheng Jiashu. She had just sent Gu Shiyue a message but he hadn't replied, so she made a phone call.

"It's good that you've arrived." Qi Xueying smiled. "By the way, I just heard from Jiang Luo that you two played games together before. When did you two become so close?"

"He tells you everything." Gu Shiyue took a sip of water and raised an eyebrow slightly. "Are you very close to him?"

If Gu Shiyue hadn't run into Jiang Luo at Qi Xueying's birthday party today, he wouldn't have known that he and Qi Xueying were friends. Gu Shiyue thought that at most they were "client" and "client's agent".

“We’re familiar.” Qi Xueying smiled. She hadn’t mentioned to Gu Shiyue that she and Jiang Luo had known each other for a long time. “Our relationship isn’t just about money; Luo Luo is my friend.”

Thinking that every time he ran into Jiang Luo, Jiang Luo was either working or on his way to work, Gu Shiyue casually asked, "Is he short of money?"

The question came out of nowhere, and Qi Xueying almost didn't react: "You mean Jiang Luo?"

"Um."

Qi Xueying hummed in agreement and said, "We're quite short of them."

She didn't tell Gu Shiyue the specific reason why she was short of money; it was Jiang Luo's private matter, and she couldn't just tell others about it.

Gu Shiyue also sensed that Qi Xueying had only said half of what she wanted to say, but he didn't press her for details.

"Why are you suddenly asking this?" Qi Xueying asked him.

“Every time I run into him, he’s working.”

Qi Xueying smiled first, then sighed softly, "He's had a tough time."

Cotton Tuan walked to Gu Shiyue's feet and lay down, meowing softly. Gu Shiyue glanced down at the cat, unsure of his own thoughts. Perhaps he found Jiang Luo's personality pleasing and agreeable, or perhaps he felt a pang of pity. After a moment of silence, he suddenly said to Qi Xueying, "I'm going to Beijing for a lecture the next two days, and there'll be no one to look after the cat at home. You could ask Jiang Luo if she'd be willing to feed the cat for me. It's for a fee."

Qi Xueying almost didn't react: "...What?"

Qi Xueying held her phone, stunned for a moment, then asked to confirm, "You mean you want him to come to your house to feed your cat? Cotton Ball?"

“Yes, I was going to hire someone to come and feed it anyway, since I wasn’t home,” Gu Shiyue said. “The fee is three hundred yuan per visit.”

"My god... 300 once, you're really a bodhisattva." Qi Xueying laughed. "Brother, are you serious? You're not joking? If it's true, I'll tell him."

Do you think I have a lot of free time?

Qi Xueying smiled and said, "Okay, wait a minute, I'll ask him now."

After Qi Xueying finished speaking, she hung up the phone and went to find Jiang Luo. Jiang Luo had just finished showering. It was Friday, and his roommates were still awake, either playing on their phones in bed or playing games on the floor. Jiang Luo was lying in bed when he saw Qi Xueying's message and immediately sat up, startling his roommate in the opposite bed: "What's wrong? Are you lying there like a corpse? You scared me!"

Jiang Luo sat cross-legged on the bed and replied to the message: What do you mean, Boss Ying?

Qi Xueying: It means exactly what it says.

Qi Xueying: Senior Gu wants you to help him feed the cats.

Qi Xueying: 300 per time

Jiang Luo: Three hundred? ??

Qi Xueying: Mm

Jiang Luo: Really?

Qi Xueying sent Gu Shiyue's WeChat contact: Why don't you ask him yourself if he's real or fake?

Jiang Luo: Why did he suddenly think of asking me to help him feed the cat?

Qi Xueying: I don't know. They just suddenly asked me if you were short of money, saying that every time I see you, you're working.

Jiang Luo stared at the screen for a moment, then laughed as she held her phone.

No wonder.

Jiang Luo: Your brother is such a good person.

Qi Xueying: Yes, very good.

Qi Xueying: She seems to be exceptionally kind to you.

Jiang Luo: Ah

Qi Xueying: I feel like he likes you quite a bit.

Jiang Luo stared at the screen, speechless: "President Ying, you can't just say things like that..."

Qi Xueying: Haha, I didn't mean that kind of liking, look how scared you are.

Jiang Luo: [Facepalm] I know, but don't say it like that. It wouldn't be good if my senior found out.

Qi Xueying: Don't worry, it won't happen. It's okay if you know. He's not as scary as you think.

Qi Xueying: I've sent you his WeChat contact. You can talk to him yourself.

Jiang Luo: Okay

Gu Shiyue took a shower, and when he came out, he found a new friend request on his phone from Jiang Luo.

After Jiang Luo accepted the friend request, he immediately sent her a WeChat message: Senior!

Gu Shiyue lay down on the bed and typed a reply with one hand: Hmm

Jiang Luo: I thought you were asleep.

Gu Shiyue: I was just taking a shower.

Jiang Luo: Mm

Jiang Luo: Um, Mr. Ying told me to talk to you directly.

Gu Shiyue: Hmm

Gu Shiyue: Are you afraid of cats?

Jiang Luo: Of course I'm not afraid!

That's true. If you're afraid of cats, why would you add him as a friend? This question is a bit redundant.

The door wasn't closed properly, and the cotton ball squeezed in through the crack, meowing as it walked to the bedside. It looked up at Gu Shiyue, stretched out a paw and scratched at the sheets, its desire to sleep on the bed obvious.

Gu Shiyue wouldn't allow it, and gestured with his chin toward the door: "Sleep by yourself, get out."

The cat, which I've had for almost ten years, is very intelligent and can understand most of what Gu Shiyue is trying to say. It meowed again while pawing at the edge of the bed, but seeing that Gu Shiyue was unmoved, it could only wag its tail and pitifully leave.

In fact, when Gu Shiyue is not at home, he usually has the housekeeper come to take care of Miantuan. Gu Shiyue has never hired anyone to come and feed the cat before; he would never allow strangers to step into his residence.

So he also felt that this idea came out of nowhere today—why did he suddenly think of having Jiang Luo feed the cat for him?

Jiang Luo frankly confessed: "But I've never raised a cat before, I have zero experience, would you still be willing to hire me? I'll be watching cat-raising videos like crazy tonight to catch up."

Gu Shiyue: No need to cram, it's not as complicated as you think.

Jiang Luo: Then will you hire me?

That's a good question.

Gu Shiyue countered: What if we don't hire them?

Jiang Luo: Then I'll just walk away flat.

Gu Shiyue scoffed.

Jiang Luo: Hahaha, I was just kidding.

Jiang Luo: You should just hire me [pity]. I'll do a good job.

Gu Shiyue: Okay, I'll hire you.

Jiang Luo: Thank you, boss!
