Chapter 18 18. Lying in his arms, I am his wife. (Xiao Xiu)…

"Slow down." Xu Chang shook his hand lightly. Mi Yanyan supported herself on the edge of the table and quickly withdrew her hand.

"It's too violent..." A trace of panic flashed across her face.

"How does it feel?" He turned his head away. Mi Yanyan dodged backward uncomfortably, and he quickly looked away.

"It's all fine, just a minor injury."

"Fortunately, no bones were broken."

"Do you want a few more days of leave?"

"Really."

"Okay, you decide for yourself."

Mi Yanyan had just glanced at the schedule and still hadn't scheduled surgery for her. Now, she mentioned, "Director Xu, I can go in for surgery."

"No," Xu Chang said without hesitation. "The last few sessions have been time-consuming. Standing for too long can disrupt blood circulation."

It wasn't Mi Yanyan's first day on the job either. After all, their line of work was similar to that of human medicine. It was semi-hard work that was done whenever they got the chance. Everyone had headaches and fevers, and staying on the front line even with minor injuries was a professional quality.

"Director Xu, we have to treat everyone equally," she could naturally hear the hidden meaning in Sun Siyuan's words. If this silly girl could see through the twists and turns, how could other colleagues not have any ideas?

"Don't give me special attention."

Xu Chang's expression was calm as he replied, "We've known each other for so many years, why can't I give you some special consideration?"

He thought for a moment and then asked, "Is it...someone gossiping?"

"Not really... I'm really fine." Mi Yanyan kicked her legs and stood firmly.

"That's fine. Your work wasn't delegated, it was all done by me. They shouldn't have any objections."

"......Then I have to thank you again." Mi Yanyan's words were just polite remarks at this moment. She always felt that something was wrong, but since she couldn't find any fault on the surface, she didn't want to be too sentimental.

"When you are fully recovered, please treat me to a meal."

Mi Yanyan was stunned for a second, then smiled and said, "Of course, you choose the place."

Xu Chang did not stay long. A referral client came outside. He gave him a few words of advice to have a good rest and then went out to meet him.

The door closed and Mi Yanyan sat back in her chair.

The feeling of being neither right nor wrong flashed through my mind.

She didn't even have an appointment for an outpatient clinic today. She sat on the bench all day, bored and scrolling through her Moments. Ye Qionghua's landscape photo was updated two hours ago.

In the center of the nine pictures is a solo photo of her, wearing sunglasses with her back against Victoria Harbour, her long hair flowing in the dusk, and a delicately composed profile.

The first comment was from Aunt Chen, who said the photo was really beautiful. Ye Qionghua proudly replied that Mr. Shi’s photography skills were worthy of praise.

When outsiders comment on their parents, they often praise their deep love for each other. Before getting married, Mi Yanyan thought it was just a superficial excuse for a wealthy marriage. Only after getting along with each other did she realize that it was the real deal.

Shi Ting left Ruisi very early. Before Shi Jingzhou and Shi Zekai participated in the management, most of the business was handled by Shi Zekai's father Shi Ye, who assisted the old man.

After his two grandchildren finished school, Shi Ye stepped back, handing over his connections to Shi Zekai. Meanwhile, Shi Jingzhou was raised by his grandfather, Shi Huaizhi, and he and his cousin each held a controlling stake in the family. Mi Yanyan knew as much about the Shi family's affairs as an outsider. Occasionally, she'd hear Aunt Chen mention it, saying that Shi Jingzhou didn't resemble their father, but rather, was heavily influenced by their grandfather, taking after Shi Huaizhi.

Indeed, Shi Ting was kind and tolerant, leaving everything to his wife. He turned a deaf ear to Rui Si and was content to be the free and easy prince.

Her son was decisive and tough. From the few online meetings she overheard, she could see that they were all tense and the people below were on pins and needles as if they were facing a powerful enemy.

Although she had never met Shi Huaizhi, she had formed a stereotype in her mind. She was frightened when she thought of him, and always felt that he must be extremely majestic.

It was hard to guess what his original intention was in choosing her as a candidate for his grandson's wife and marrying her to Shi Zekai. In the end, how did the old man feel when she didn't get her wish and instead married Shi Jingzhou?

I can’t care about so many things. Fortunately, we rarely meet, so it’s better not to have contact.

As she was thinking about it, her phone vibrated and a reminder appeared on the top. She hurriedly picked it up and called out "Mom" stumblingly and shyly.

There was a lot of noise on the other end, and the tone sounded cheerful, so he asked, "Xiaoyan, Jingzhou will be home today."

Ye Qionghua rarely called her, and when she suddenly asked, Mi Yanyan was stunned for a few seconds and replied, "Mom, I'm still in the hospital. I don't know if he's home yet."

As he spoke, he quickly opened Secretary Zhou's dialog box schedule, which showed that he would be back in three days.

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and then he said, "Dad and I are out. Jingzhou's trip to the lab wasn't going well this time. He and the old man must have had a huge argument."

She could almost guess the purpose of this call, but unfortunately, apart from briefly responding to the topic of veterinary medicine she raised last time, Shi Jingzhou never talked about other company matters at home.

Their relationship hasn't reached that level yet.

Seeing Mi Yanyan didn't respond, Ye Qionghua took a step further and suggested, "This kid can't adjust to the time difference even after all this traveling. If you have time, can you please go check on him for us? He spends all day in the office, and he won't eat well after all."

"Okay, I'll go after get off work." She agreed obediently, glanced at the time, packed her things and went home.

She wanted to ask Secretary Zhou where Shi Jingzhou was at the moment, but before she even entered the room, Aunt Chen had already packed up the prepared meal and handed it to her, smiling and instructing, "Uncle Wu just sent the gentleman back to Ruisi, and the portion is just enough for you two."

No need to ask, Mi Yanyan took it, knowing full well the good intentions of the Shi family's elders and younger brothers in bringing them together. The two parties involved who were most casual were undoubtedly her and Shi Jingzhou.

Especially since Shi Jingzhou suddenly changed his schedule and went abroad, and now he adjusted his return home time without notifying her, which made her quite passive.

It is also possible that he had no intention of going home at all. After all, staying in a hotel is one of Shi Jingzhou's important hobbies.

Mi Yanyan didn't even bother changing her clothes, grabbing her cooler bag and heading out. Her motorcycle was parked in the garage, gathering dust and not daring to ride it for now. She picked a more discreet key in the hallway and drove all the way to Ruisi.

As the sky grew darker, the building was brightly lit, and the left gate was blocked by a red "No Entry" light, so she had no choice but to walk to the front desk.

The gentle and charming receptionist politely stood up. She wore a Ruisi brooch on her silver blazer and asked with a typical smile, "Miss, who are you looking for?"

The newcomer had a striking demeanor, with several earrings glittering on her earlobes and a high ponytail with voluminous hair. Her attire was striking and bright. However, her words were gentle and sweet, as she asked lightly.

"Which floor is Shi Jingzhou on?"

Perhaps startled by Mi Yanyan mentioning the big boss's name, the receptionist once again restrained her gaze and looked him over briefly before replying, "Do you have an appointment with Mr. Shi?"

After saying that, he confirmed with his eyes that the general guest of tonight had just gone upstairs, and there was no subsequent update on other meetings.

Seeing her concerns, Mi Yanyan hesitated for a moment and said, "I'm his wife."

The other party was obviously even more surprised, but he quickly put away his shock and put on a professional smile. He ran out from the front desk to greet Mi Yanyan and walked towards the access control. He skillfully took out the pass card and pressed it. With a click, the gate opened and he made way for Mi Yanyan to go in first.

The two stood at the elevator entrance. The girl apologized with a smile, "I'm so sorry, we didn't know Mr. Shi was married." After saying that, she realized that something was wrong and tried to make amends, "Madam, I'll take you upstairs. Mr. Shi is currently receiving guests and it's expected to be over in half an hour."

"Thank you, I can go up by myself." She squeezed the bag in her hand and waited for the girl to press the elevator button for her. When the door closed, she looked straight ahead at herself in the mirror and forced a half smile.

The president's office area was very quiet. After getting out of the elevator and stopping, the entire floor was so quiet that it seemed as if she was the only one there.

Following the instructions from the front desk, I walked inside and gradually heard laughter and chatter muffled by the glass.

The blinds of the room with the light on were not drawn, and several figures were floating in the light and shadow. Shi Jingzhou was sitting on the sofa with his back to his head. Next to him was a figure who was half a head shorter than him, with long hair draped over his shoulders and a slender waist.

She didn't want to rush in, so she looked around to see if there was a place where she could sit and wait. Just as she turned around and was about to go to the rest area, she heard a sweet, clear female voice.

"Brother Jingzhou, let's go eat Cantonese food together tonight. We used to go to that place. You said it was light and delicious."

Mi Yanyan stopped in her tracks. She didn't know that Shi Jingzhou had his favorite dishes, and she thought he ate simply for vital signs.

Another guest replied first: "Your brother in Jingzhou is getting married and has to go home tonight, so it's not a good idea for him to go out and fool around with you." The man's voice was steady, powerful, and very comfortable to listen to.

Before Shi Jingzhou could respond, the girl spoke again, "This is a family-arranged marriage. It's not someone Brother Jingzhou wants to marry. What's the problem with coming home late? It's okay even if you don't go home, right?"

The deserted corridor was too quiet. She held her breath, afraid that her heartbeat would be heard by the people inside.

Then a familiar voice sounded, still cold and steady.

"Well, the family ordered it. Let's go eat."

It turned out that his appearance was just arranged by his family. To the Shi family, she was a passive option, and it was up to Shi Zekai or Shi Jingzhou to choose.

That's why he showed up at the coffee shop and asked her if she wanted to try marrying him.

He made the decision quickly simply because he didn't want to waste time on such an unimportant matter. He made a decision immediately.

Only those who can handle businesses worth hundreds of millions of dollars will not be swayed by trivial matters in marriage.

I have a dinner party in the evening, so I guess adjusting to the time difference isn’t that important.

Hearing the noise of several people getting up, she quickened her pace. When she got into the elevator, the packing bag in her hand seemed to weigh a thousand pounds. The steam had soaked the brown paper bag, making it shaky.

The only thing I was thankful for was that I was still wearing work clothes, and my sneakers had light soles, so I could run fast without making any noise.

It is convenient for her to come and even more convenient for her to leave.

On the way back, Mi Yanyan opened the window and stopped by the roadside.

There was no one in the small park on the corner of the street in the middle of the night. She opened the lunch box and took a few bites. Shi Jingzhou liked the light taste with less oil and salt. She didn't have much of an appetite and liked spicy dishes.

Two stray cats emerged from the bushes, staring longingly at the half steamed fish left in her bowl.

She picked up two pieces of fish, rinsed them in water, and placed them at her feet on a paper towel. They were quickly devoured. The cat didn't leave after eating. After initially building trust, it lazily leaned on the grass and licked its paws.

People passing by, walking their dogs to digest their food, would come in twos and threes. The kitten was frightened and would hide in the dark, waiting for them to pass before coming out again. This repeated behavior made her feel uneasy. She felt a tightness in her heart as she watched. She thought of the cat and dog at home, like hostages being held in a luxurious palace, unable to leave and difficult to return.

It was past ten o'clock in the evening. Thinking that Shi Jingzhou might not come home, Mi Yanyan drove back to Zhongshan Villa.

The house was quiet. Peanut and Popcorn came to greet her. She closed the door, squatted down, and touched the two little heads.

Suddenly there was a sound at the stairs, and when the footsteps stopped, she looked up and saw Shi Jingzhou.

"Overtime?" he asked.

It feels like I just took a shower, I don’t look tired at all, and a refreshing scent is blowing in my face.

"I went out for a walk." He wasn't lying. He did walk around the small park several times, which was almost like taking a walk.

The two hadn't seen each other for a week. After a few questions and answers, the topic came to an end. She patted the puppy and kitten and told them to go back to their nest to sleep. After settling them down, she picked up her phone and walked towards the stairs. When she turned the corner, Jing Zhou was still standing there straight, so she walked straight past him and went back to the bedroom.

Looking at the time, Shi Jingzhou frowned slightly. Going for a walk at eleven o'clock?

After taking a shower, Mi Yanyan stood in front of the mirror and dried her hair. There were traces of his use in the bathroom. The black bottles and jars that she had put in the cabinet were placed on the countertop again, occupying the space on the left and right with her colorful ones, neatly and separately.

This may be the way they should get along with each other, not interfering with each other, respecting each other, and just getting by on the surface.

Although every word she heard in his office was harsh, it was true and made sense. He understood it very clearly, so there was no need for her to be confused. She could just do her duty as a wife.

Just work during the day and work part-time when you get home.

After figuring it out, he opened the door and found another part-time employee already sprawled out on the bed. Shi Jingzhou was half-lying down, flipping through his tablet. He glanced up at the noise, but quickly returned his gaze to the screen.

"Did I turn off the lights?" Mi Yanyan asked while standing by the bed.

"Hmm." He continued to flip through the emails, then glanced at them again. Her pure white nightgown didn't reach her knees, and when she leaned over and lifted the quilt, her round breasts were exposed. He clenched his fists.

After rustling and getting into position, she didn't move at all, still facing him with her back as familiar, with only the back of her head exposed.

The distance between the two of them was the maximum distance she could reach the edge of the bed. Even if she blew on it, she would fall down immediately.

He could see that Mi Yanyan was in a bad mood and her expression was not as cold as before.

Unable to fall asleep even with her eyes closed, Mi Yanyan stared blankly at the stars outside the curtains.

A warm touch passed through her waist and stopped at her lower abdomen, and her heavy breathing tickled her ears.

Shi Jingzhou pulled her into his arms little by little with such force that she could hardly resist.

It was not until she was further away from the bed and had completely moved to the warm center that she heard the person behind her asking her a question right next to her earlobe.

"Why are you unhappy?"
