Chapter 6: What to hide from after six heartbeats
Cui Hao was still immersed in his own crying scene when he was suddenly interrupted and froze for a moment. Sensing the boss's overwhelming pressure, he blurred the entire process and said only, "Secretary Wen persuaded us and then left. We don't know where she went."
Jiang Xuechao snorted coldly, "Team Leader Cui, you don't know where the person has gone again. It's like you were the one who threw the cup on the ground and scratched Secretary Wen, and then asked Secretary Wen to clean up the debris herself!"
Seeing the man's face darken, Cui Hao turned pale with fear. "What nonsense are you talking about! Mr. Xu, it's not like that. Let me explain..."
Xu Youjing glanced at Sui Jianwen coldly, "What kind of people are in this company?"
Sui Jianwen immediately understood what he meant: "I know how to deal with it."
The man had already left quickly. Sui Jianwen sat down again and interrupted Cui Haoyu: "Be more self-disciplined and go to the HR department to collect your salary. This will make everyone look respectable."
"Mr. Xu, I——"
"Who told you to mess with someone you shouldn't mess with? That person has a special relationship with the new guy, do you understand?"
-
"Xiao Ai, I got the item you asked Teacher Su to help you with last time during my business trip to Suzhou. I'll take a look at it for you first. It's very heavy-duty! The elder you're giving it to will definitely like it."
In the bathroom, the cell phone is playing loudly on the sink.
It was my best friend Lu Miaomiao calling.
Wen Huai threw the wet tissue into the trash can and said, "Thank you, Miaomiao. I'll treat you to something delicious when you come back tomorrow night."
"That's what you said, and I just so happen to have a big surprise prepared for you tonight."
Hearing the ethereal sound, she asked again: "Where are you? Why is there still the sound of water?"
Wen Huai was about to say that he was in the bathroom when someone suddenly came in from the door behind him. Seeing the bloodstains outside the sink, he screamed, "Why is there so much blood?"
“…”
After explaining to the girl and finally calming Lu Miaomiao down, she sighed helplessly, "Since when did your job include handling employee disputes? Doesn't your boss care?"
Wen Huai threw away the last piece of paper and curled his lips: "It was all an accident. I was unlucky——"
"Pah! Our Huaibao has the best luck in the world, okay?"
Lu Miaomiao also told her to "Pooh, pooh, pooh" and not to say such unlucky words.
Wen Huai did as he was told, feeling warm in his heart.
She and her best friend were separated and hadn't seen each other for a long time. The last time they met was at her father's funeral, when she hurriedly took leave from her trip to accompany her to attend the funeral.
"I'm telling you, Xiao Ai, even though your uncle is gone, you still have me. If you're bored or miss home, just call me. I'm always here. Grandpa even asked you to come to our house for dinner the other day. There are still many people in this world who love you! Not everyone is as cold-blooded as your mother!"
"I still find it hard to accept that a mother would actually tell her own daughter, 'Everyone who comes into contact with you will be unlucky!' There has to be a limit to superstition, right?"
Once Lu Miaomiao started talking, she couldn't stop, as if her own mother was so good to her.
Wen Huai calculated that it was almost time, so she ended the conversation. She glanced at the noticeable scratch on her arm and took out her phone to send a message to He Xuwen.
Wen Huai walked out while typing, and just as he turned to the door, he felt a shadow in front of him. He looked up and saw Xu Youjing who had been waiting there for a long time, and was speechless.
Xu Youjing glanced at the hideous red scar on his fair arm and suddenly curled his lips. "Heroism is taking over. What's the spoils this time? Shards of glass?"
Wen Huai immediately lowered her eyes, the tip of her nose tingling with bitterness at the sharp tone of the voice. She suppressed her emotions and tried to keep her voice steady: "I'm sorry, Mr. Xu. It was my own carelessness."
"You were careless." He lowered his gaze. "How can I trust the work ability of a secretary who can't even take care of herself?"
She suddenly looked up, and when she met his gaze, she was startled for a moment, but she remained neither humble nor arrogant: "I was just unlucky this time, it was an accident. Mr. Xu, I have adjusted my state now, and I promise that I will not delay the progress of the work!"
Bad luck.
Xu Youjing remembered the conversation in the bathroom. He opened his lips but before he could say anything, Jiang Han ran towards him from behind.
He saw Wen Huai was stunned for a moment, waiting behind him to obey his instructions.
The daylight shone on their faces, revealing Wen Huai's stubbornness and Xu Youjing's coldness. They stood facing each other, and although the atmosphere wasn't particularly good, Jiang Han inexplicably found the scene quite captivating, like a scene from an idol drama where the male and female protagonists misunderstanding each other.
"Lead the way." He interrupted, his expression not looking very good.
Jiang Han explained to her: "Madam, can you please take us to the president's office?"
Wen Huai glanced at Xu Youjing, who had already turned his back, and raised his hand to lead the way: "This way, please."
The elevator went up in silence.
When they reached the top floor, Xu Youjing walked in front, followed by Wen Huai and Jiang Han.
Although he said he would lead the way, Xu Youjing did not give her a chance. He walked quickly in front the whole time, and Wen Huai could not keep up.
Perhaps because she was struggling, Jiang Han quietly reminded her, "Madam, Mr. Xu didn't really mean to ask you to lead the way when he said that. He—"
"Jiang Han."
The man didn't even turn his head.
Jiang Han immediately said, "Yes, Mr. Xu."
The tall and straight figure stopped at the office door and said in a bad tone: "How do you call me that in the company? Do you want me to teach you?"
Jiang Han subconsciously glanced at Wen Huai and nodded: "Sorry, Mr. Xu, I understand."
There was a moment of silence between the three of them. Wen Huai lowered his eyes and stared at the tip of his leather shoes.
He really didn't like their relationship to be made public.
She originally planned to talk to Jiang Han privately and ask him not to call her that so as not to cause him trouble.
Now that Xu Youjing is helping, she doesn’t have to say anything more.
It was obviously a good thing, but Wen Huai just couldn't be happy.
Xu Youjing stared at the man who was a head shorter than him and frowned.
This was in line with what she had said in the meeting room. Shouldn't he be happy? Why was he still hanging his head with a sad expression as if he had come to pay his respects?
"Mr. Xu?"
Jiang Han glanced at the two people who were quarreling and gave them timely reminders.
Xu Youjing retracted his gaze, pressed the door handle, and ordered: "Go get the medicine box."
"OK."
Wen Huai wanted to wait until he closed the door before leaving, but before he could move his heels, he heard his voice falling above his head again.
"Wen Huai, come in."
When I looked up, he was no longer at the door, only the door that was about to close.
Wen Huai raised his hand and pressed it on the handle. His palm felt the residual warmth of the metal. His fingertips curled up, then he quickly grasped it, walked into the room, and closed the door.
"Mr. Xu, I..."
He pointed casually at the sofa and said, "Sit there."
There was a knock on the door, and it was Xu Youjing who opened the door.
He came over with the medicine box and placed it on the coffee table in front of Wen Huai: "Can you handle it yourself?"
"I've dealt with Mr. Xu."
Noticing her gaze shift, she looked down at her arm, which was bleeding again: "..."
The man leaned against the sofa with his arms crossed, his chin raised: "If you can take care of yourself, show me how to do it."
Wen Huai looked at the medicine box and bit his lip: "...Yes."
Being stared at by him like that, her movements became somewhat mechanical.
She took out the iodine and gauze, then remembered that she had forgotten to bring a cotton swab. She stuttered when she opened the medicine box again. She immediately noticed the impatient breathing of the man in front of her.
I took out the cotton swab with all my might, but I was slow to tear it open.
The bag she picked up happened to have no dotted lines on it...
After trying several times but failing to tear it open, a shadow fell on her head. She was startled by the warmth she felt with her fingertips, and then the pack of cotton swabs fell into Xu Youjing's hands.
It was also magical. What she couldn't tear open with great effort was easily opened in his bony and slender hands.
While she was lost in thought, Xu Youjing had already opened the iodine-attached cotton swab and pulled it over her arm.
"Mr. Xu..."
Wen Huai's heart was pounding, and he didn't even dare to look at him.
Because of this, she ignored the rare strong person and held the cotton swab upside down due to unfamiliarity.
Xu Youjing was calm and composed. He squatted in front of her, turned the cotton swab straight with a twist of his fingertips, and held her arm with one hand without loosening his grip.
"Wait."
“…”
The office was spacious and bright, a place Wen Huai had been to many times. But this was the only time he sat on the sofa in the center.
The silence around them undoubtedly magnified any movement between them. Of course, there was also Wen Huai's heartbeat that was like a drum.
Because of her professional habit, she sat on the edge of the sofa. Her long legs were retracted because of the man's squatting action, but they still accidentally brushed against the fabric of his suit.
Fortunately, she was wearing long jeans today instead of a short skirt...
Xu Youjing was tall, and even when he squatted, he wasn't much shorter than Wen Huai, who was sitting on the sofa. He carefully wiped the wound on his arm, but he still gave people a sense of distance, as if to keep away from strangers.
His fingertips were a little cold, and his three fingers were holding two inches below her wrist bone. The place where his fingertips touched was rapidly heating up.
It's like fire is devouring the cold ice.
He moved his fingertips upwards and pressed on her pulse.
Wen Huai felt a little difficulty breathing, his long and curled eyelashes trembled slightly, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
But it's of no use.
The two of them were so close that she could easily smell his fragrance, and so close that she could hear every frown and breath.
Afraid that he could hear her irregular heartbeat, Wen Huai wanted to stay as far away from him as possible.
"hiss."
She gasped in surprise and looked down. When she met Xu Youjing's accusing eyes, she lowered her eyes and said, "I'm sorry."
"What are you hiding from?" He was indeed impatient.
It was clearly so light, but he kept dodging and didn't control his strength... He said slowly: "It hurts, can you bear it?"
Their eyes met and quickly looked away. Wen Huai felt like he was about to suffocate, and his other hand tightened: "Yes, thank you, Mr. Xu."
When it came to the title with a very high rate of plagiarism, Xu Youjing frowned, wanting to say something but didn't. He threw the last cotton swab into the trash can and left.
"Thank you, Mr. Xu."
Wen Huai looked at the delicate gauze bandage with a bow on it, and temporarily put aside his misunderstanding of his work ability.
Before the smile faded, he stared at her and asked, "Are you not going to grandma's birthday party because of what your mother said?"
The smile froze on her face. She didn't expect that Xu Youjing actually heard it outside the bathroom.
Not saying anything was considered as a consent.
Xu Youjing rolled up his sleeves and said nonchalantly, "Grandma doesn't believe this."
Wen Huai pursed his lips, "But I'd rather believe it..."
He hit the nail on the head: "If you believe it, you won't agree to let me marry you."
