Chapter 3 Ji Jingyu, wait for me!
Jiang Sui craned her neck but could only hear their voices, but she was no longer as anxious as before.
Roach remained in the posture of grabbing something, but his neck was comically turned towards the direction from which the sound came.
His pupils contracted sharply after he saw who the other person was.
"Ji Jingyu?" Luo Qi called out the name of the person who had just arrived.
Almost all the teachers in the school know Ji Jingyu.
The reason is simple: he's just too outstanding.
No one can ignore a student who excels in both character and academics.
Ji Jingyu seemed to only just notice Luo Qi. He glanced at him quietly with his dark eyes and greeted him, "Teacher Luo."
Meeting Ji Jingyu's gaze, Luo Qi felt inexplicably exposed. He wasn't sure how much Ji Jingyu had seen in that scene, but for the sake of his own reputation, he could only awkwardly withdraw his hand.
Pretending nothing had happened, Roach put his hands in his pockets and cleared his throat guiltily. "What are you doing here?"
“My house is right across from Teacher Su’s house.” Ji Jingyu walked calmly to Su Yinian’s side and naturally picked up the shopping bags on the ground. “Teacher Su, let me help you carry them.”
A seventeen-year-old boy is in the transition period between boyhood and manhood, and is beginning to feel strong; this weight is nothing to him.
Su Yinian relaxed and didn't stand on ceremony with him, "Thank you, Xiao Jing."
"Goodbye, Teacher Luo." Before Luo Qi could say anything more, Ji Jingyu gave him the order to leave.
"..."
Luo Qi's throat tightened at what he said, but he couldn't detect any unusual emotion in Ji Jingyu's tone, leaving him unsure of Ji Jingyu's intention.
"Yes, I'm about to leave."
Now that things have come to this point, if he doesn't leave, he'll really be asking for trouble.
After speaking, Luo Qi glanced at Su Yinian and Ji Jingyu again. There was still resentment in his eyes, but he was helpless and could only leave in a huff.
—
"Xiao Jing, you're out shopping too? What's going on here...?"
Su Yinian's gaze fell on the shopping bag that Ji Jingyu was carrying in her other hand. Through the translucent white bag, he could clearly see that it contained snacks such as potato chips and soda.
I bought quite a lot; it filled a whole big bag.
Ji Jingyu doesn't usually like to eat these things, so Su Yinian's tone inevitably carried a hint of doubt.
Ji Jingyu subconsciously hid her shopping bag behind her back.
It's just self-deception.
A rare look of embarrassment appeared on the handsome young man's face. "I suddenly have a craving for these."
These snacks are loved by adults as well as children.
Even though Ji Jingyu was mature beyond his years, he was still only seventeen years old. Su Yinian noticed his unease, smiled gently, and didn't ask any more questions.
"It's hot, let's go upstairs."
"Please go first."
Ji Jingyu seemed to have thought of something, paused in her steps, and said to Su Yinian.
Su Yinian assumed that Ji Jingyu was still embarrassed, so he did as he was told and walked in front of him.
—
Jiang Sui didn't know what she was thinking, but she subconsciously lifted her foot and ran upstairs.
But in the end, it was still too late.
Before Su Yinian's smile could fade, he came face to face with a pretty young girl who was running up the stairs, gripping the handrail.
Realizing there was no way to avoid it, Jiang Sui bit her lip in frustration and slowly turned around to look at the person behind her, resigned to her fate.
Their eyes met.
Jiang Sui's heart pounded wildly, and her head was buzzing. So this was her mother!
She is not just a mother printed in a photo, nor just a mother who appears only in Jiang Yunzhao's words, but a living, breathing mother who can be reached out and touched, a mother with warmth!
As if the air had been stripped away, Su Yinian felt that her surroundings had suddenly become extremely quiet, with only the loud pounding of her own heartbeat.
Each impact was so strong that it almost made her eyes sting and ache.
Su Yinian opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but no sound came out, as if something was tightly gripping her throat.
“I am Jiang Sui, and Jiang Yunzhao is my father.”
The draft I had prepared was completely forgotten when the moment actually arrived, leaving only a pale opening statement.
She didn't actually need to introduce herself.
Su Yinian recognized Jiang Sui the moment he saw her.
When those beautiful, clear, and bright eyes looked at her, a thunderous roar suddenly resounded from the depths of her bloodline, causing her blood to boil instantly and burn with indescribable pain throughout her body.
Her child stood obediently in front of her.
They've grown so big already...
The face in front of Su Yinian was both familiar and unfamiliar.
She saw her own and Jiang Yunzhao's reflections in Jiang Sui's face, as if they were a combination of each other.
No matter how many years have passed, no matter how much she tries to numb herself, this is a fact she cannot change.
Su Yinian stood there helplessly, as if her language system had been invaded by a virus called "Jiang Sui," leaving her unsure how to deal with the sudden situation.
Jiang Sui has not yet grown up to the point where she can control her emotions freely.
Because of Su Yinian's long silence, her cheeks, which had been flushed with excitement, gradually turned pale.
It felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over my head.
As she climbed the stairs, she imagined many possibilities in her mind.
She never imagined that Su Yinian would not welcome her.
How could her mother not welcome her?
Jiang Sui couldn't understand it.
But the facts are right in front of us.
After learning her identity, Su Yinian showed no excitement or joy, and did not go up to hug her.
He was so indifferent that it was as if Jiang Sui were a complete stranger.
—
The most unbearable moment in summer is after a humid downpour, when you feel an unbearable stickiness and stuffiness.
Just like now.
Jiang Sui felt suffocated and had difficulty breathing.
As if she were sulking, she stopped looking at Su Yinian and instead turned her gaze to the small badge pinned to her chest.
These little badges were made by her and Jiang Yunzhao together, and they are decorated with cartoon images of their family of three.
This was originally a gift that Jiang Sui was going to give to Su Yinian, but now it seems that it is no longer necessary.
Jiang Sui's disappointment and sadness were obvious.
Su Yinian opened her mouth, knowing she should say something to ease the tension.
But what can I say?
The child who came to see her without warning disrupted all her plans.
So, no one spoke.
For a moment, the dimly lit stairwell was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Jiang Sui thought Su Yinian would coax her like Jiang Yunzhao did, but Su Yinian just ignored her with silence.
Her eyes were red from holding back tears, but even so, she never thought of asking Xu Ze to turn around and take her back.
She had promised Jiang Yunzhao that she would get along well with her mother, and besides... this was the mother she had finally found.
—
"Teacher Su?"
A cool, clear voice broke the suffocating silence once again.
Ji Jingyu seemed puzzled as to why Su Yinian had suddenly stopped walking, her tone carrying a hint of hesitation.
Upon hearing the sound, Jiang Sui suddenly raised her head, her surprise barely concealed.
Ji Jingyu was always a few steps behind Su Yinian, so Jiang Sui didn't really see him clearly until he walked up to Su Yinian's side.
The boy, around seventeen or eighteen years old, was extremely tall. He wore a white shirt and black trousers, which made him look upright and neat, exuding youthful energy.
When Jiang Sui looked up at him, he was also looking in her direction.
Their eyes met in the air.
The boy had deep-set eyes and a high nose bridge; he had the kind of strikingly handsome features that were immediately apparent. However, his expression was too cold, giving him an aloof and unapproachable air.
Ji Jingyu's voice seemed to wake Su Yinian.
"You...why are you here?" Her voice was hoarse, and her gaze towards Jiang Sui was complicated.
Jiang Sui never expected that the first thing Su Yinian said to her would be to question why she was there.
She lowered her head and blinked hard before looking up at Su Yinian with a stubborn yet aggrieved expression. "Can't I come?"
Su Yinian did not answer Jiang Sui's question, but immediately asked a second question, "Did Jiang Zhenkai also agree to let you come to see me?"
Jiang Sui couldn't help but frown.
Because of Jiang Yunzhao, she was not close to her grandfather Jiang Zhenkai. Except for certain occasions where she had to be present, she would only see Jiang Zhenkai a few times a year.
Hearing his name suddenly from Su Yinian's mouth, Jiang Sui felt full of doubt. "Why should he agree? This is my own business."
Jiang Sui thought she had made herself clear enough, but to her surprise, Su Yinian's expression turned even more unpleasant after hearing her answer.
"The people who brought you here can't have gone far. Call them quickly and have them pick you up."
"I'm not going back." Jiang Sui pursed her lips, each word seeming to be squeezed out from between her teeth. "I finally found you, I'm not going back, I want to live with you."
At that moment, Su Yinian felt as if Jiang Sui's face overlapped with Jiang Yunzhao's face from more than ten years ago.
Back then, Jiang Yunzhao also made the same solemn promise to her, saying that he didn't want anything, he just wanted to be with her. But what happened?
Learning from past mistakes, Su Yinian felt that her decision was right. She hardened her heart, reached out and grabbed Jiang Sui's arm, intending to lead her downstairs.
But Su Yinian forgot that they were still on the stairs. Jiang Sui was pushed and stumbled, her body tilted, and she was about to fall when a strong, thin arm caught her around the waist at the critical moment.
Before a panicked cry could escape her lips, Jiang Sui was already held firmly in someone's arms.
A crisp, refreshing scent wafted from behind.
It wasn't the scent of an expensive perfume, but rather the smell of laundry detergent—a fresh, slightly astringent mint mixed with the scent of sunshine.
It was so ordinary that it couldn't be more ordinary, yet it gave Jiang Sui an indescribable sense of security, making her heart beat a beat slower.
Warm breath landed on her head, and for a moment, Jiang Sui seemed to hear the other person's rapidly beating heartbeat.
Jiang Sui knew who had saved her.
After all, there is no fourth person here.
Jiang Sui's gaze involuntarily drifted downwards, and she noticed a small black mole on the web of the other person's left hand.
The person is good-looking.
Hands too.
Her fingers were long and slender with distinct knuckles, and the pale blue veins on the back of her hand were clearly visible. The small black mole stood out against her pale skin.
These are hands perfectly suited for playing the piano.
"Are you alright?" Su Yinian rushed over, his face pale, looking at Jiang Sui with anxiety and helplessness. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
She subconsciously raised her hand to touch Jiang Sui, but pulled it back at the last second, her face ashen as if she were the one who almost fell.
Seeing this, Jiang Sui suddenly felt less sad.
Perhaps Mom just needs time to adjust to her arrival.
"I'm fine, thanks to..." Jiang Sui paused, not knowing the boy's name yet, and her words were left unfinished.
"Ji Jingyu".
After Jiang Sui had fully regained her footing, Ji Jingyu released her hand and succinctly stated her name.
"Ji, Ji Jingyu." Jiang Sui repeated his name like a parrot, then smiled at him, "Thank you."
"Need not."
His voice remained as cold as ever.
After thanking Ji Jingyu, Jiang Sui didn't forget that Su Yinian wanted her to go back to Licheng. Her tone softened a bit, and she blinked her beautiful big eyes, "Mom, don't make me go back. I want to live with you."
In the past, whenever she used this tone to coax Jiang Yunzhao, he would always give in and fulfill all her requests. Now that the object of her affections has become Su Yinian, Jiang Sui feels somewhat uncertain.
Having just experienced a fright, Su Yinian's attitude was not as firm as before, but he still showed no intention of backing down.
"Teacher Su, the ice cream I bought is melting, I'll go home now."
Ji Jingyu picked up the shopping bag that was at her feet and slowly walked upstairs.
As they brushed past each other, Jiang Sui seemed to see Ji Jingyu wink at her.
"Ji Jingyu, wait for me."
Ji Jingyu didn't respond, but her pace noticeably slowed down.
After catching up, she casually said, "Let me get one for you."
Ji Jingyu was carrying two full shopping bags in her hands, and Jiang Sui remembered that one of them belonged to their family.
"No need." Seemingly realizing his own coldness, he paused for a moment before softening his tone and saying to Jiang Sui, "It's not heavy, I can manage on my own."
"Wow, you're really strong."
The two shopping bags looked very heavy. Ji Jingyu's exposed wrists had perfect bone structure and blue veins, perfectly blending youthful innocence with a sense of strength.
"..."
Su Yinian stood silently in place, and no one knew what she was thinking, but in the end she still lifted her leg and followed the two children.
—
Jiang Sui didn't have much luggage.
A suitcase and a backpack.
But all of this was a blatant reminder to Su Yinian that her child had really come looking for her.
It wasn't her hallucination.
