Chapter 1
The city gates swung open, and a group of exorcists, their bodies wrapped in bandages, slowly walked in. Each of them had considerable wounds. Zhao Sumu stood at the entrance of his family's herbal medicine shop. He had seen this scene far too many times before. Every time the exorcist team returned from outside the city, his family's herbal medicine shop would be completely emptied.
Sometimes Su Mu wondered what would happen to them if monsters stormed into the city one day.
"Hey! What are you standing there for? Hurry up and move things!" The voice came from a young girl, who was also the young manager of this pharmacy: Zhao Rendong.
"Coming, coming," Su Mu replied impatiently. "Always so fierce, I wonder which man will dare to marry you in the future." Before she could finish speaking, a broom was swung at her, but luckily Su Mu dodged it quickly.
"You should be more careful and stop making Honeysuckle worry so much," came an elderly voice.
"I understand, Father. After all, as her older brother, I will still give in to her. Anyway, I'll take care of her if she can't get married in the future," Su Mu said as he quickly took the medicine and left.
Meanwhile, Honeysuckle was only thinking about how she should have thrown the winnowing basket over again!
Having escaped from here, Su Mu carried the wrapped medicinal herbs to the exorcist's residence. As soon as he entered, a strong smell of blood hit him. Su Mu looked around and saw that everyone's face was filled with undisguised sorrow. He then found an empty spot and placed the medicinal herbs there.
"Thank you, Su Mu."
Su Mu shook his head. "It's nothing. How have you been lately? Is the demon-slaying going smoothly?"
"Sigh!" The man sighed deeply. "The monsters are getting harder and harder to deal with lately. I don't know how much longer we can hold out."
Su Mu watched the man's departing figure and then looked at the heavily injured exorcists. People like them who lived in remote areas rarely received help from professional exorcists. At that moment, an idea suddenly popped into his mind!
"What? You want to become a demon exorcist?" the couple exclaimed in unison.
“That’s right! Maybe this is what happens when a boy suddenly grows up!” Su Mu said firmly.
"Forget it, with your chick-like appearance, you wouldn't even be enough to fill a monster's teeth if you went outside the city gates," Ren Dong said, not even bothering to lift her eyes, as she did her calculations.
"Hmph, I'll be eighteen in six months. I'll start training now, and on my birthday I'll go out and slay demons!"
The couple exchanged a glance. Their son was always only enthusiastic for a short time. Although his desire to become a demon exorcist was a bit outrageous, he definitely wouldn't be able to stick with the training for six months. So, they exchanged another glance and went back to doing their own thing.
"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Su Mu was getting anxious when none of the three people supported him. "Don't you have any words of encouragement to say to me?"
The entire room fell silent.
"Damn it, you all look down on me, don't you! Go, Zhao Sumu, you will definitely become the most powerful demon exorcist in the world! Then everyone will bow down to you! Hahaha!"
With a crisp "snap" of the abacus, Su Mu unsurprisingly fell to the ground.
