Chapter 32

Chapter 32

The four emerged from the cave and found that although the thick fog had dissipated, they still could not discern the way back.

"Which direction should we go?" Su Mu scratched his head.

Honeysuckle stepped forward, squatted down, and examined "this place."

Su Mu looked in the direction of the honeysuckle, puzzled. "How did you know?"

"When I came, I left behind a trail of ground herbs; we just need to follow the path back."

"As expected of my sister, she's just as smart as me." Su Mu swaggered over in the direction Ren Dong pointed.

Following the marks left by honeysuckle, the four soon returned to the Li family in Jincheng.

Seeing that everyone was safe and sound, Master Li asked, "How are the young heroes?"

"I could easily deal with those minor demons."

"What? You really killed him?" Master Li was extremely shocked.

"There's a cave not far outside the city; if you send someone there now, you can still find his body."

Hearing Su Mu's confident tone, Master Li no longer doubted him, after all, no one could come back alive from that great demon.

"Someone, prepare a feast!" Master Li shouted, then announced to the entire city that the great demon had been eliminated by the four demon exorcists.

The celebration lasted for three days and three nights, with all the villagers cheering for Sumu.

At this moment, Su Mu finally felt the radiance that becoming a hero brought him, and he was completely immersed in the halo of a savior.

Ren Dong noticed that Dongfang Jin had been acting strangely these past few days. He only appeared during mealtimes, and was nowhere to be seen at other times.

During the banquet, Master Li wanted to marry his daughter to Su Mu. Upon hearing this, Su Mu instantly sobered up, secretly glanced at Ren Dong who was accompanying Jing Tao, and resolutely refused Master Li's offer.

Three days have passed, and even though everyone was reluctant to part, they could only watch the four of them leave.

For the two days following his departure, Su Mu appeared unusually excited and happy.

As the group sat having lunch, a vibration was felt beside them.

The two immediately drew their swords.

Before long, a giant brown bear appeared before them.

Dongfang Jin was the first to step forward, swiftly leaving sword marks on the monster's body.

Su Mu followed suit, and together with Dongfang Jin, they easily beheaded the brown bear.

The bear's head landed on the ground, and the two sheathed their swords. "A mere low-level monster is no match for me at all," Su Mu said proudly.

Just as the two turned around, a seductive female voice rang out from behind them, "You actually killed my pet, you deserve to die!"

Sensing the killing intent, Jing Tao charged towards the banshee with her knife in hand.

The moment their eyes met, a pair of red eyes emitted an unusual light.

The knife fell to the ground, and Jing Tao also fell straight down.

At this point, Jing Tao entered her dream.

Memories swept in like a storm.

Jing Tao slowly opened her eyes. She was surrounded by white. She looked around in confusion and suddenly found herself in a rainy night.

A half-demon wearing a tortoise shell was driven out of the village by humans and wandered aimlessly in the wilderness. Her stomach was protesting, but she had no choice but to try her luck at the river to catch a few fish to fill her stomach. As she was working hard in the river, she heard a wooden bucket in the distance. She swam to the bucket and found a baby girl inside. She immediately grabbed the bucket and swam ashore. The half-demon carefully examined the bucket but found nothing. Not knowing what to do with the baby girl, she had no choice but to take her back to her cave.

The half-demon, unsure what to feed her, mustered his courage and went to hide in the human village to observe. Taking advantage of a vendor's inattention, he stole two steamed buns, but just as he turned around, the vendor shouted, "Stop thief!"

The half-demon ran desperately towards the outside, but she couldn't overcome the overwhelming numbers. This time, when she returned, one of her legs was broken.

The half-demon took out a crumpled bun from his bosom, picked up the baby girl, and held the bun to her mouth, but the baby girl did not open her mouth.

The half-demon sighed worriedly, as if he knew she couldn't eat this, so he ate it himself and prepared to try his luck in the river.

This time, luck was on her side. The half-demon caught two small fish and cooked them into fish soup.

Once the fish soup has cooled down, slowly feed it to the baby girl in a bowl.

For the next period of time, the half-demon would secretly go to human villages under the cover of night to steal various things to feed the baby girl.

Suddenly, the surroundings began to change again.

After an unknown amount of time, the baby girl gradually grew up. Although she was still very young, it was already possible to vaguely recognize that she resembled Jing Tao.

The half-demon and the girl lived in a cave. They never communicated verbally, but that didn't stop them from stealing things from human villages and displaying their tacit understanding.

Fishing together, eating together, sleeping together, keeping each other company.

The half-demon knew that humans could not outlive him. In just a few years, the girl had grown to be the same height as him, and he had been powerless to stop her all these years. However, he was already very happy to have someone by his side.

One ordinary night, the half-demon woke up the girl to go to the village to steal some things to make a living, but when the two arrived at the village, they found it was filled with firelight.

The half-demon rushed into the village anxiously and saw the villagers falling one by one in the flames. He immediately stepped forward and carried the still-breathing villagers out of the sea of fire.

The girl watched and followed suit.

Just as the two were busy rescuing people, a humanoid monster stood behind them.

The half-demon sensed something was wrong and turned around. It turned out to be a powerful demon. Sensing the demonic aura emanating from him, the half-demon immediately grabbed Honeysuckle's hand and fled without looking back.

But how could a mere half-demon escape the clutches of a great demon? In the blink of an eye, a large hand grabbed the half-demon by the neck.

Seeing this, the girl went up and started punching the monster's thigh repeatedly.

The great demon kicked the girl away, threw the half-demon aside, and walked towards the girl.

The half-demon coughed a few times on the ground and immediately looked at the girl.

The great demon stretched out his right hand, and a burning torch flew into his hand. Just as it was about to stab the girl, the half-demon immediately pounced on the girl's body.

The torch struck the half-demon's tortoise shell without causing any damage.

In the instant the great demon was stunned, the half-demon grabbed the girl and ran out of the village.

I used to hate my turtle shell because it was the reason why I was rejected by everyone. I never thought that my turtle shell could save someone important to me this time.

Knowing that they would die sooner or later if they continued to flee like this, the half-demon grabbed the girl's hand and hid behind a big tree.

The half-demon channeled his demonic power, and a green demon core slowly emerged from his mouth.

The half-demon held the demon core in his hand; the demon core was flowing with wisps of emerald green, half green and half white.

The half-demon grabbed the girl's face with one hand and stuffed the demon core into her mouth with the other.

The girl coughed incessantly after consuming the demon pill.

The half-demon pulled the girl's hand to the edge of a cliff. He exerted force with both hands, his knuckles turning white from the strain, the veins on the back of his hands bulging, and his muscles tensing as he clenched his fingers. For the first time, the half-demon let out a hoarse scream due to the intense pain.

Finally, under the moon's gaze, the half-demon forcibly peeled off his tortoise shell, his whole body trembling uncontrollably, his lips turning white from the intense pain, and blood flowing uncontrollably from his body.

The girl didn't know what the half-demon had gone through; she only knew that the half-demon was in great pain and that she couldn't do anything about it.

The half-demon chopped the girl in the back with a chop, knocking her unconscious and stuffing her into the tortoise shell.

The girl, curled up inside the tortoise shell, looked at the half-demon in a daze.

The half-demon, having arranged everything, showed the girl the gentlest smile in the world, and with the last bit of strength in his body, pushed her down.

This parting will be forever.

The half-demon, completely naked, looked at the great demon chasing after him, showing no fear of death, and calmly accepted his fate with a smile.
