Chapter 39

Chapter 39

For the next two days, Ren Dong checked Jing Tao's injuries every day, and after applying medicine to Jing Tao each time, she would hand her some fruit and pastries.

You seem to really like sweets.

"But Xiaotao, when will we be able to find your family?"

Why did you leave them and come to such a dangerous place? Did you experience another life-or-death separation?

Ren Dong stopped thinking about those things, closed the door, and left.

On the third day, everyone packed their luggage and prepared to leave.

Before leaving, Ren Dong made a special trip to visit the old man's house, but no one was home.

Over the next month, Su Mu and Dongfang Jin worked together to deal with all the monsters they encountered on the road. Even when they were injured, they did not let Jing Tao lift a finger.

When Ren Dong applied the medicine to Su Mu, she noticed that Su Mu was indeed much stronger than before. His previously skinny physique now had firm but not stiff muscles under his skin. His upper arm muscles were firm and full, and the veins on his forearms were faintly visible. There was no excess fat in his waist and abdomen, and his abdominal muscles were bulging with clean and crisp lines. This was the first time Ren Dong had seen a man's appearance on Su Mu.

After bandaging Su Mu's wounds, Ren Dong came to Dongfang Jin's side.

"No need, I can do it myself." Dongfang Jin took the medicine from Ren Dong and secretly applied it from the side.

Ren Dong chuckled to herself: This young master Dongfang is quite innocent.

"Just one more day! I'll be able to see Lan Jueming!" Su Mu couldn't contain his excitement.

"He's the world's number one demon slayer, someone you can just meet whenever you want?"

"I don't care, I'll do whatever it takes to see him, become his disciple, surpass him, and become the number one demon slayer in the world!" Su Mu stood up, deeply moved.

Ren Dong pulled Su Mu down, saying, "You were just bandaged up, don't move!" Then Su Mu's head was hit again.

Su Mu covered his head and said, "Once I become his apprentice, I'll find you a good family in Mingcheng, okay?"

Honeysuckle kicked again, but Su Mu nimbly dodged.

"Hey, I can't hit it."

After applying the medicine, Dongfang Jin returned the bottle to Ren Dong.

"After you've completed your apprenticeship, can we leave?"

"We? Who do you mean by 'we'?" Honeysuckle asked, puzzled.

"I still need to take Jing Tao to find her family."

Ren Dong nodded. "That's true. Does that mean we'll have to part ways once we get to Ming City?" Reluctantly, Ren Dong sat down next to Jing Tao and took her hand.

"We've been through so much together, it's really hard to say goodbye."

"So what? You're welcome to come find me anytime after I've finished my studies," Su Mu said, still as carefree as ever.

"With your attitude, you should start thinking about why they should accept you," Dongfang Jin couldn't help but complain as she looked at Su Mu's dazed expression.

"Then I'll wait for him at his door every day. Sooner or later, my sincerity will move him."

The two of them couldn't be bothered to pay him any more attention.

Finally, the four arrived at their final destination - Ming City.

The city gate consists of two heavy iron gates, connected to a ten-foot-high blue brick city wall on both sides. The top of the wall has serrated crenellations. The gate opening under the gate tower can accommodate five carriages side by side. The demon hunters guarding the city gate are wearing armor and holding long spears, standing on both sides.

Su Mu stepped forward and explained why he had come. The guards checked the four of them before letting them pass.

Upon entering Ming City, the aroma of steam from breakfast stalls wafts towards everyone. Vendors carrying vegetable baskets walk along the stone slabs, asking questions from house to house. Rows of exorcists patrol the city, and in the distance, the sound of the bell tower knocking can be heard.

The people here live a fulfilling life, showing no fear of monsters whatsoever.

The four of them found an inn to settle down. As soon as they put down their luggage, Su Mu couldn't help but run towards the very center of the city.

This is the safest place in Mingcheng - the Lan Mansion.

Demon hunters surrounded the area.

Su Mu composed himself and stepped forward. "My name is Zhao Su Mu, and I'm here to see Senior Lan Jueming."

The demon hunters stationed there stopped him, saying, "Master Lan is not in the manor."

When will he be back?

No one answered.

Su Mu waited at the door until noon, then had to return home disappointed.

The two of them guessed the outcome when they saw Su Mu return for dinner with a blank expression.

Unexpectedly, Su Mu ran out again after finishing lunch.

"How many days do you think he'll last?"

"After everything that's happened, I think he's determined to get what he wants this time."

"Is Jing Tao's injury almost healed?"

"Yes, her body recovers faster than most people's; she'll be fine after a couple more days of rest."

"I took her away two days later."

Ren Dong looked at Jing Tao with reluctance, but also understood that all good things must come to an end.

Over the next two days, Ren Dong packed a lot of ointments for sprains and bruises in her room, which she handed to Jing Tao when she left.

Dongfang Jin, meanwhile, took Jing Tao to eat, drink, and have fun in the city, enjoying the life he had always wanted.

Time flies, and the day of parting has arrived in the blink of an eye.

Honeysuckle packed a large bag of packages and handed it to Jingtao.

"There's some dry food and snacks in here, as well as some emergency medicine. I've written the uses on the bottles. You must take good care of Jingtao."

Dongfang Jin nodded solemnly.

Unable to hide her sorrow, Ren Dong hugged Jing Tao tightly, saying, "Xiao Tao, you must take good care of yourself, okay?"

"Should we say hello to Su Mu?"

"Alright, let's go together."
