Chapter 6

Chapter 6

From that day on, Su Mu arrived early and left late, and Lao Li strictly kept their promise. In just three months, Su Mu's body became stronger and stronger, and he even developed the abs he had always wanted.

He returned home early that day in high spirits. As soon as he entered the door, he lifted his shirt and said, "Honeysuckle, look, look! I have abs now! Isn't it much better than before?"

Although Honeysuckle was unwilling to admit it, she was still surprised that this good-for-nothing was actually serious. "That's amazing!" she said, and then walked towards Su Mu. "Let me count, there are actually six pieces. But it's really hard to notice unless you get close."

Su Mu straightened his clothes. "Heh, how about it? Aren't you incredibly envious? Your brother is about to become a demon-slaying master revered by thousands."

Hearing that smug tone, Honeysuckle retorted, "I really envy you. You're leaving the city to exorcise demons in two months. I wonder if you'll even make it back alive?"

"Just wait and see when your brother cuts off that monster's head and brings it back for you to see," Su Mu said, then walked outside again.

"Hey, aren't you having dinner at home?" a voice came from behind.

"Just save it for me, I'm going to train," Su Mu said, running as fast as he could.

Ren Dong watched his departing figure: We must not let him leave. If something happens to him, my parents' health will definitely suffer.

Time flies, and two months is but a fleeting moment for Su Mu. He spends every day training his body, eagerly anticipating the day when he can personally protect his family.

The day before their departure, Wu summoned all the demon hunters, saying, "We'll set off at dawn tomorrow. Before you leave, be sure to say goodbye to your families properly. Everyone should go home early today."

After speaking, he dismissed the group, but Su Mu followed in the direction Wu Wei had left. "Captain!"

"how?"

"If I perform well in this demon-slaying mission, could you personally teach me?"

Wu Wei turned around and looked at Su Mu's expectant eyes: Xiao Tan said the same thing back then.

"We'll talk when you come back alive," Wu Wei said, raising his fist at Su Mu.

Su Mu received a satisfactory answer and eagerly bumped fists with Wu Wei, "Then it's a deal!"

This was probably the happiest day of Su Mu's life so far. He gained the recognition of the demon-slaying team through his own efforts and also received Wu Wei's promise. All he had to do now was to give full play to his efforts.

Su Mu hummed a little tune as he returned to the clinic.

"Why are you back so early today?" Zhao's mother looked at her son, who had changed so much in less than half a year. Just a few months ago, he was still a child, but now he was starting to look like a man. Although she was very happy, she was surprised that he had lost so much weight in less than half a year.

"I'm leaving the city with the captain tomorrow, so I'm coming back to rest early today." Upon hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Zhao couldn't help but look troubled.

"I know you're worried about me, but haven't I worked so hard for this moment? You should be happy for me."

That being said, what parent would want their child to go out and take risks?

"Let's not talk about this anymore, hurry up and cook, I'm starving," Su Mu urged his mother.

"I'll cook today, as a way of celebrating for you," Honeysuckle volunteered.

"I want to eat meat! Lots and lots of meat!" Su Mu answered earnestly.

Ren Dong rolled her eyes at him and went into the kitchen. In less than half an hour, the table was full of food, all of which were Su Mu's favorite dishes.

Seeing this, Su Mu immediately started eating, trying every dish. "It's been so long since I've had your cooking. I feel like your cooking skills are getting better and better. Indeed, the best way to win a man's heart is through his stomach. Honestly, are you thinking of getting married?"

No sooner had she finished speaking than a shovel flew towards Su Mu. Sensing the killing intent, Su Mu turned and caught the attack, not forgetting to retort sarcastically, "Do you think I'm still the same person I used to be? How naive! Now, no matter how you attack, I'll catch it all without fail. My foolish sister, you can no longer surpass me. With these harmless attacks, how far can you go?"

Even Zhao's father, who was standing nearby, couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Stop talking nonsense and eat your food."

The two could not refute their father's words. Ren Dong brought the last soup to the table, and the family finally settled down to enjoy the delicious meal.

Halfway through the meal, the father couldn't help but mutter a few more words, "Although we don't usually keep a close eye on you, things will be different tomorrow. Your life and death will be in your own hands. Remember, we'll always be waiting for you to come home."

This was the first time her father had spoken seriously to Su Mu. Su Mu knew that her decision would make her family very sad, but once a person makes a promise, they must keep it to the end, unless they die. "I know, as long as I have a breath left, I will definitely come back!"

The mother, who was standing to the side, had already started to cry, and Su Mu quickly comforted her.

"Alright, stop crying. It's a good thing that our son is making progress. Instead of crying, you should make more clothes. When he comes back, the weather will be colder, and he'll need them."

"That's right, I feel like I've grown taller recently. Mother, while I'm away, please make me a few more clothes for when I come back. Make sure they're made of better material than the honeysuckle ones, so she knows that the pillar of this family has changed."

Zhao's mother was amused by this and exclaimed, "Good, good, good, great hero Zhao!"

The family finished their dinner amidst laughter and chatter, except for Ren Dong, who remained silent.
