Chapter 10 I Caught the Wild Duck

At the same time, the prefect also rushed out of the mansion. The moment he saw Qin Ye, his legs trembled and he almost fell to his knees.

The prefect hurriedly stopped in front of Qin Ye and forced a flattering smile: "You, why are you here?"

Swallowing his saliva, the prefect trembled as he bowed to Qin Ye and wanted to kneel down to pay his respects, but was stopped by Qin Ye's eyes.

After being glanced at by Qin Ye, the prefect subconsciously stood up straight, his breathing almost stopped, and his expression was cautious.

I secretly regretted that I should have asked someone to investigate what happened before rushing over.

The evil god in front of him is not someone to be trifled with.

Through the occasional noise and discussions from the surrounding people, the prefect barely knew that what happened was related to the woman standing next to Qin Ye.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, the prefect carefully glanced at where Song Qianning was standing, and began to wonder in his heart.

"You, come here."

Realizing that Qin Ye was talking to him, the prefect immediately bowed and asked, "What do you want me to do?"

"Thoroughly investigate the case of this woman being falsely accused of stealing ducks."

Not understanding what exactly had happened, the prefect responded subconsciously, then looked up in the direction of Song Qianning.

Before the prefect could ask further questions, Qin Ye's next words were heard: "In public, a woman was actually bullied and surrounded by a group of strange men, who threatened her with words and then assaulted her."

"I never knew that when things haven't been concluded yet, people can be imprisoned and lynched at will."

Hearing the implicit sarcasm in Qin Ye's words, the smile that the prefect had managed to force froze on his face, his calves began to tremble, and he cursed those troublemakers in his heart.

After Qin Ye finished speaking, the prefect forced a smile and assured: "Don't worry, I will definitely investigate this matter thoroughly today and clear this girl's name!"

After speaking righteously, seeing that Qin Ye said nothing more, the prefect turned his head to look at Song Qianning.

"Miss, don't worry, this prefect will never let the bad guys go unpunished!"

Because of Qin Ye, the prefect smiled very kindly.

After a while, he remembered his identity and put away the smile on his face. He straightened his expression and asked the people around him, "What happened?"

The people around fell silent again, looking at each other, and no one dared to speak.

However, those men covered their swollen faces from being beaten by the guards, and wanted to speak to defend themselves, but they didn't dare to make a sound.

With a roll of her eyes, Song Qianning pinched herself with the cover of her sleeve where no one else could see, then covered her face and sobbed.

"Sir, you must make the decision for me."

"Today I was selling ducks, but when I was about to leave, this group of people suddenly came out and blocked my way. They said that my ducks were stolen from them, threatened me and wouldn't let me leave. They also asked me to pay them compensation."

Upon hearing this, the prefect puffed out his beard and said, "What? There's actually such a thing happening in broad daylight?!"

"Once this prefect has found out the truth, I will definitely not let anyone off!"

While making the assurance, the prefect couldn't help but look in Qin Ye's direction. He made sure that he didn't show any displeasure before he dared to continue asking.

On the contrary, the men, seeing the prefect questioning Song Qianning, were too anxious to care about their fears: "Sir, you can't believe her nonsense. She stole the duck from my house!"

"Shut up! When did I ever let you speak?!"

Because he was wearing official uniform, the prefect was still very intimidating, and several people immediately shut their mouths and dared not say anything more.

After scolding, the prefect looked at Song Qianning again and asked, "Where did you get those ducks?"

"Reporting to the prefect, those ducks were all wild ducks I caught." Song Qianning confessed: "Recently, I have been catching ducks every day and selling them at the market. But today, these people falsely accused me of stealing their ducks."

After the words fell, Qin Ye beside him said calmly: "The ducks raised by the common people are all domestic ducks. No one would deliberately raise wild ducks."

A few years ago, there were still people who raised wild ducks, but nowadays wild ducks are very wild, and almost no one is willing to raise wild ducks.

Even if they raise ducks, most people choose domestic ducks which are docile and easy to raise.

"Yes, you are right. No one raises wild ducks now."

He quickly responded, then the prefect turned his gaze towards the men: "What else do you have to say?"

"Your Excellency, wild ducks are extremely difficult to catch. How could a woman like her have the strength to catch a wild duck? She must have stolen the ducks from my family!"

"Yes, Lord Prefect, you can't believe the little bitch's one-sided words."

"Your Excellency the Prefect..."

Several men started to talk dirty and accused Song Qianning of stealing ducks.

The prefect narrowed his eyes and stretched out his hand to call the people behind him.

Before coming, the prefect brought a lot of yamen runners with him and directly ordered them to go to the man's house to check.

In the end, the men had to get up reluctantly and walked towards their homes with the yamen runners. Before leaving, they glared at Song Qianning.

Since Qin Ye was still watching, in order to ensure the accuracy of the results, the prefect personally followed the yamen runners to the man's house to check.

It was half an hour later when the prefect brought his men back. The men all looked dejected.

After ordering the yamen runners to force several men to kneel, the prefect respectfully said to Qin Ye, "I've just taken people to investigate, and there's no sign of them raising ducks at home."

If you raise ducks, your home will definitely have the smell of the ducks left behind for a long time, including the smell of feces.

Not to mention the smell or trace of feces in the man's house, there is not even a duck feather. He is obviously lying.

After reporting the results, the prefect finally determined that several men had conspired to frame Song Qianning and sentenced them to beating with a stick.

Song Qianning should have been happy, but when Qin Ye stared at her, her heart skipped a beat for no reason.

Song Qianning is a fish, but she is not a stupid fish.

From the prefect's attitude and Qin Ye's performance, one could guess that her identity was not simple.

Seeing him staring at her at this moment, she couldn't even hold back the tears she had been deliberately holding back.

Fairy Yu Ji, feeling inexplicably uneasy, quickly thanked the prefect and Qin Ye and prepared to leave.

Just as he turned around and hadn't had time to slip away, a cold voice came from behind him: "Stop."

So, Song Qianning's raised foot stopped in mid-air, and she staggered and almost fell to the ground.

Taking his eyes off Song Qianning, Qin Ye walked towards the men, scaring them so much that their noses started running.

"Sir, we know we were wrong..."

Under Qin Ye's cold eyes, the voices of several men suddenly stopped, and they huddled together, looking so pitiful and timid.

"To slander a woman in public is a terrible act..."

Without Qin Ye's instructions, the guards behind him stepped forward, searched several people and took out a purse, then respectfully placed it in Qin Ye's hand.

After receiving the compensation, Qin Ye did not give it to Song Qianning immediately.
