Chapter 13 The scholar was bullied!
Chang Xixi didn't dare to say much, as her space was kept secret from everyone in the modern world. She could only tell Chang Hai that it was because of the good feng shui of her home that she recovered quickly.
Chang Hai and Dou Shi did not suspect her. After lunch, Gu Rongyu still had not returned, and Chang Xixi could not help but feel a little worried.
He was weak, but not fragile. His sickly demeanor made him look as if he was about to be blown away by the wind. Thinking of this, I became even more worried.
Bang!
There was a rapid knock on the door. Chang Xixi was frightened and stood up to open the door.
Outside the door was the morning oxcart driver, who happened to live at the foot of the mountain and didn't socialize much on weekdays. What was he doing here? "Oh no! Scholar Gu is no longer bullied in the bookstore."
Being bullied?
Anyone who dares to bully her husband must want to die.
Without saying goodbye to Dou, she followed the driver on the ox cart and headed for the city. In order to make the driver drive faster, she even gave him double the money.
In the bookstore, a large group of noisy students stood inside and refused to leave. They were dissatisfied with how a sickly boy could get married in the blink of an eye.
Moreover, he was kicked out of the house, had no parents, and could not stand on his own, so he was bullied.
Is it possible that there is someone who dares to challenge a place like this?
Speaking of which, they are all scholars, well-educated and well-mannered. Some of them are even scholars, and some of them are the first in the provincial examination, which is also a cliché.
Chang Xixi didn't bother to look at the ancient street scene. When she saw a few people typing in the bookstore, she jumped off the ox cart and strode in.
Her action stunned the pedestrians and shops around her.
The bookseller also widened his eyes. Before the shop assistants could stop him, Chang Xixi pushed through the crowd and saw that Gu Rongyu, who was surrounded in the middle, was unharmed. Only then did she feel relieved.
I walked over slowly, and the wild words of those talented people chattering passed by my ears.
"How could he have come second in the provincial examination? I heard he doesn't even have a single book at home."
“Isn’t this poor?”
"I heard that a grown man was ostracized and bullied by his stepmother at home. Look at him, he looked like that. He might have died if it rained that day."
These words were not vicious, but Chang Xixi clenched her fists after hearing them. She helped Gu Rongyu sit down on the side and asked the boss to serve some better tea.
She personally handed it to Gu Rongyu and gave him a reassuring look. Now that she was here, how could she let her husband be bullied.
She coughed lightly and said word by word, "If you have any dissatisfaction now, you can come to me. My husband is in poor health and can't stand your ridicule."
"Public ridicule? What do you mean by that? We are all educated people, how could we curse at each other?"
Chang Xixi smiled, handed the boss some change, and whispered.
"Don't worry about it. I'll handle it. After this incident, I guarantee your business will flourish. There will be countless people coming to you because of your reputation."
The boss wanted to have her kicked out, but when he turned around, he saw Gu Rongyu's agreeable expression. He took the money and served her a cup of good tea as usual, then spread his hands and didn't do anything else.
Chang Xixi asked the waiter to move a stool next to Gu Rongyu. She sat down slowly and took a sip of tea.
"Swearing, did I say you swore? I'm talking about the public's ridicule, do you know what that means? Have you ever heard of the majority bullying the minority? And you're still a scholar."
"You, you...are so presumptuous, how dare you act so wildly here? Don't you know that the ancient sages said that a woman's virtue lies in her lack of talent? You lack the virtue of a woman, and you should be divorced seven times."
Chang Xixi said with amusement, looking at the man in front of her with contempt, "Well, you are right. You know, a woman's virtue lies in her lack of talent. It doesn't mean that she has no talent, but that she cannot show too much talent in front of her husband. If she has talent, she should respect her husband and rely on him. It means that she should distinguish right from wrong and not be a fool."
"As for the seven reasons for divorce, my husband and I have only been married for a few days. If I were pregnant, I wouldn't reveal it. He has no father or mother, so why should I respect my parents-in-law?"
"You are making excuses." The man said again, his face changed from full of confidence just now to angry. How could he, a scholar, be choked by a woman?
"I'm only telling you the truth. If my husband was bullied by my stepmother, it was because he respected and was filial to his elders. But in your eyes, you've made him a symbol of weakness. Where have you learned the teachings of Confucius? First, love your brothers and parents, then your friends and neighbors. And then, peace and prosperity for the country, and serving the court!"
Chang Xixi stood up and stroked her sleeves and the hair at her temples.
She looked at the man coldly. The fierce look frightened the man so much that he stepped back and hurriedly took his book and fled.
"If anyone else wants to gossip, feel free to do so. Since this is a bookstore, you should speak freely."
Another fearless person stood up and announced his name, "My last name is Li, and I own a mill west of the city. You just said that Confucius' words were correct, but I know that women should stay at home to take care of their husbands and children, yet you are showing up in public."
"Chang Xixi, Wanfu Village. Although women cannot show their faces in public, am I competing with you for fame, or am I going to register for the provincial and palace examinations?"
"Not really."
Li Xiucai felt that what Chang Xixi said made sense. She really did not bother anyone else. She just saw her husband being bullied and stood up to say a few fair words.
Chang Xixi asked again if anyone wanted to come up and confront them, but the people below fell silent one by one.
Finally, some dispersed and some left.
In such a large bookstore, there were only Chang Xixi and Gu Rongyu.
Chang Xixi turned around and looked at Gu Rongyu, "Didn't you say you were here to find some work? Copying books or something, did you get it? I'll come with you from now on."
