Chapter 16 Scolding the Aunt
Chang Xixi was stunned. Her second brother looked apologetic. She had let it go long ago. If she hadn't gone to Mr. Zhang to get her property back, she might have been cheated again at any time.
"Second brother is gone. Drink it quickly. This stuff will hurt your stomach if it's cold."
Dou didn't know from where that this side room could cure coughs.
After drinking the sugar water, the second brother asked Chang Xixi to bring him the crutches, and walked a few steps with them. "My legs can use more strength now, I want to walk more."
Before Chang Xixi could say, "Don't force it," her second brother happily walked out and told Dou the good news that his health was getting better and better.
Dou was also happy and said that she would kill a chicken in the evening.
As soon as she stepped into the kitchen, a dark shadow jumped in from the window, "Master, are we not leaving now?"
"To be determined."
"Well, whatever you say is what you say."
The shadow left mumbling, but he didn't know that just as he jumped out of the window, Chang Xixi came into the room with a smile, "You'll have a treat tonight."
Chang Xixi looked up and noticed that the window frame moved a little. How could this solid wood frame be shaken by the wind? She leaned over to take a look, but there was nothing wrong.
I was very surprised. Could it be that the scholar Zhang in the village was causing trouble again?
Unconvinced, she walked outside, only to see a broken branch on the ground and nothing else. The dark figure hiding under the eaves trembled.
Chang Xixi is very cautious.
At night, a black shadow flew down from the roof tremblingly and landed steadily on the ground. Gu Rongyu, who was in the house, carefully went out through the window, picked up the branch that Chang Xixi had thrown down during the day, and raised the corner of his mouth.
He ran towards the woods where he had practiced martial arts before. As soon as his toes touched the ground, a dark shadow suddenly appeared. "Young Master, when are we leaving? The higher-ups have been asking about this."
"wait."
Alas, this sentence again. Although the black shadow was very dissatisfied, he did not dare to disobey the order and accompanied Gu Rongyu to compete under the moonlight.
The first ray of sunlight at dawn shone into the woods. The meditating person suddenly opened his eyes, and a gleam of light flashed in his dark pupils. As Gu Rongyu stood up, the wise light in his eyes was also hidden.
Gu Rongyu climbed over the wall, smoothed the dew on his sleeves, and with a creaking sound, Chang Xixi, who was used to getting up early, bumped into him head-on.
Chang Xixi's mind suddenly shifted to the cold blankets on the other side of the bed. "Where did you go? You didn't stay out long."
"I woke up early, and went out for a walk so as not to disturb you. The dew wet my sleeves, and I feel a little cold." Gu Rongyu waved his sleeves, and sure enough, a large area of them was wet. He spoke in a coquettish tone, with a sense of grievance.
Chang Xixi pulled his sleeve into the house, took off his coat and hung it out to dry in the yard, then turned back and took out a coarse cloth coat.
"Put it on yourself. I'll go cook."
Second Aunt came out of Chang's house, holding some melon seeds in her mouth and throwing them on the ground while eating. The old hen and the newly bought chicks rushed over, chirping and squeaking.
Chang Xixi rolled her eyes at her and went to the kitchen.
The aunt was relentless and came up to grab Chang Xixi's sleeve and refused to let go. "When will you pay me back so I can leave? How can I go home and be looked down upon?"
Chang Xixi burst out laughing. "Auntie, you woke up so early in the morning and forgot to bring your brain? Is this your home? Did you throw your face in the river at the door and get eaten by fish?"
"You little girl, you're getting more aggressive than ever... Is there any law to speak to your aunt like that? I'm your elder after all."
Chang Xixi put down the gourd ladle in her hand, wiped her hands, and said sarcastically: "It seems that I gave you face!"
Chang heard the two blushing in the room, and came out to hold Chang Xixi, "Xixi, don't talk to your aunt like that."
"Mom, even though we're a family, we can't let others shit on our necks. If the neighbors find out, we'll be so embarrassed."
"Go, she must get out of this house today."
Excitedly, he pushed his second aunt, who stumbled and fell to the ground. Her crying made her eyes tear up, but there were no tears. Chang Xixi snorted, "You're just pretending! You didn't even use enough strength... You're so strong."
Second Aunt was bewildered by Chang Xixi's scolding. This Chang family girl's mouth was venomous and sharp. "Where is the etiquette you learned for so long in the Zhou family?"
He got up cursing, said "bad luck" to Chang Xixi, and ran out of the door. Dou chased after him.
Chang Xixi stood in front of the stove with her hands on her hips. She was so proud of herself that she finally made the man angry and left. It was so refreshing... She could eat and drink for free at home.
Inside the house, Gu Rongyu's eyes darkened as he heard the noise outside. When he saw the clothes on the bamboo pole, his heart skipped a beat.
A dark figure floated into the house through the window and said with a grin, "Young Master, Chang Xixi is really interesting. That Li is a notorious shrew in Wanfu Village."
"Unique." Gu Rongyu said only one sentence, then sat down at the desk and began to copy books. Heiying added water and ground it as usual.
After dinner, the sun had just risen.
Chang Xixi boiled a pot of water, borrowed a handful of tea leaves from the neighbor next door, took a few rough bowls, and walked towards Gu Rongyu's dilapidated house.
The temporary workers were all villagers from nearby. They recognized Chang Xixi at a glance. Since her marriage, the neighbors' way of addressing her has also changed.
"Where's the new bride? The tea in your hand is for us to drink."
A man who liked to joke around jumped down from the ladder, took the pot from Chang Xixi's hand, took the bowl and poured tea into it, then drank it down in a gulp.
"Hey, I thought it was the silver flower, but it turned out to be tea. It seems that your sickly scholar still has some abilities!"
"That's right. I'm just hoping he can get better and make more money."
Chang Xixi's face also showed a hint of blush. Thinking of Gu Rongyu's handsome face and green-dotted beard when she took off his clothes this morning, her face turned red unconsciously.
Seeing her like this, everyone couldn't help but tease her, "You really are just newlyweds, you just tasted the sweetness, don't work hard every night."
It took a long while before Chang Xixi realized what this person was talking about, and her head lowered even more.
In modern times, she would probably tell dirty jokes with these people. There was no reason for others to blush when they said that to her, so she had to suppress her restless heart.
When Gu Rongyu arrived, she happened to see the scene of people teasing her. Her face turned cold, she coughed, and said weakly, "Please be gentle with your words. We are a newlywed couple and are really embarrassed."
"Scholars are boring."
Then the others came down to drink water, and then continued to work without wasting even a quarter of an hour.
The second brother's leg had healed a little and he couldn't sit still, so he came with his crutches. He was afraid that Chang Xixi, a woman, couldn't scare these peasants, and his brother-in-law was a scholar.
Chang Xixi was used to it. She walked forward with a smile, helped him up, and found a clean stone for her second brother to sit on.
"What are you doing here, second brother? There are so many people around here, you should keep him here longer. Don't waste second uncle's kindness."
