Chapter 2 Blackmail
Zhu Youcai's face was dark, his eyes full of disdain. "A pariah is a pariah. Chang Xixi, have you forgotten your former nobility as a young lady? Now you've even thrown away your dignity for a little money."
"The barefoot are not afraid of the shod. Since Mr. Zhu doesn't want to pay, then go see the official. Let's see whether the official will ask you for money or give you a beating."
If this matter is brought to the attention of the officials, the amount of money Zhu Youcai has to invest will only increase exponentially. As long as he is not stupid, he should know how to choose.
"Laifu!" Zhu Youcai shouted.
The man in blue clothes who had been frightened by Chang Xixi before crawled out of the house and waited respectfully beside Zhu Youcai.
Zhu Youcai searched Lai Fu's body and took out a heavy purse and threw it to Chang Xixi: "Is that enough?"
Chang Xixi held the purse and raised her eyebrows: "Since this is your first offense, I won't bother with you. Go away."
Zhu Youcai walked away with a grim expression.
When the villagers arrived, Zhu Youcai and his servant were no longer in the house. Chang Xixi lied that the murderer had escaped. The village chief gave them a few instructions and left.
"Xixi, go pack your bags and hide at your aunt's house for a while. Mr. Zhu might come back to cause trouble again."
Seeing Dou's face full of worry, Chang Xixi could only hug her and comfort her: "Don't worry, mother, he is anxious to find trouble with the Zhou family and has no time to care about us."
Besides, this mere bag of silver is not enough for Zhu Youcai to spend on a meal. It would be strange if he would come to this remote place again for such a small amount of money.
"But what if..."
Seeing that Dou Shi was still worried, Chang Xixi quickly changed the subject, "Mom, let's help our second brother into the house first."
Seeing that Mingming had crippled legs but still had to crawl out to help stop Zhu Youcai's second son, Dou felt distressed again.
The two men helped Chang Hai into the house, and Dou began to clean up the messy house. Chang Xixi wanted to help, but Dou was unwilling to let her do it and treated her like a rich lady.
Chang Xixi did not insist because she had not yet fully adapted to this body, and the memories in her mind were in chaos. She needed to recuperate and calm down.
She lay down on the bed and went over her memories carefully, and fell asleep unknowingly. When she came back, it was already dark. There was an oil lamp lit in the room, and a bowl of noodles covered with a plate was on the table.
Chang Xixi touched her belly which was rumbling with hunger and sat down obediently to eat noodles. The noodles were very light without any oil or water, with only a few vegetables floating on top. Despite this, Chang Xixi knew that this was the best food in the Chang family.
"Alas, I'm too poor. I need to think of a way to make money."
After finishing a bowl of noodles, Chang Xixi, who had slept for a while, could not fall asleep again. Thinking of the engagement jade pendant in her memory, a sneer appeared on the corner of her mouth. She quietly took a kitchen knife from the kitchen and went straight to the direction of the jade pendant.
After a while, she arrived at the door of Zhang Xiucai's house in the village. In her memory, the original owner met Zhang Xiucai after coming to the village. Zhang Xiucai was handsome and eloquent, and soon captured the heart of the original owner who was in love. Just the day before yesterday, Zhang Xiucai lied to the original owner that he wanted to raise money to study. The original owner believed it and gave all her money including the engagement jade pendant to Zhang Xiucai.
However, yesterday Zhang Xiucai's fiancée found the original owner and mocked and insulted him harshly. The original owner then realized that Zhang Xiucai had a fiancée and everything he said was just a lie to her.
The original owner, who had been repeatedly cheated by the scumbag, was so upset that she committed suicide by hanging herself yesterday.
"You bastards, I traveled through time just to teach you bastards a lesson!"
Chang Xixi cursed softly and pushed the door open. Zhang Xiucai, who was already fast asleep, heard the noise and woke up to see what was going on. He was frightened by the kitchen knife on his neck.
Only after seeing the man with a knife in front of the bed did Zhang Xiucai breathe a sigh of relief.
He had been drinking with others all day today and went to bed as soon as he came back. He had no idea what had happened in the Chang family during the day and just thought that Chang Xixi was teasing him.
He raised his hand to push away the kitchen knife: "Stop it, what do you want to see me in the middle of the night?"
Chang Xixi exerted force on her wrist, and the kitchen knife directly cut a gash on Zhang Xiucai's palm.
As blood gushed out, Chang Xiucai realized that Chang Xixi was not fooling around, nor was she joking.
His face turned pale and he said flatteringly, "Xixi, put the knife away quickly. It would be bad if you hurt yourself."
"Give me back my money. If you dare to say another word, I'll chop you down."
A quarter of an hour later, Chang Xixi took all the money and jewelry of the original owner, knocked Chang Xiucai unconscious with the back of her knife, kicked him twice before leaving.
However, as soon as she walked out of the yard, the dog next door to Chang Xiucai suddenly started barking heart-wrenchingly.
Chang Xixi turned around and saw a big black dog running towards her from the darkness. Without thinking too much, she ran away.
Fearing that the barking of the dog would attract the attention of the villagers, she did not dare to run back to the original owner and could only run to a remote place in the village.
She ran too fast and the oil lamp in her hand was soon blown out by the wind, plunging the world into darkness. However, the barking of the dog behind her did not stop, so she could only continue to run for her life.
How could she run faster than a dog in the dark?
"My life is over!" Chang Xixi heard the dog barking nearby and knew that she was doomed this time. The only thing she could do was to cover her vital parts to avoid being bitten to death by the dog.
However, just as she was about to squat down to protect herself, a hand suddenly reached out from the darkness and hugged her. When she reacted, the person was already in a warm embrace filled with the fragrance of medicine.
The man threw something in one direction, and the dog that was chasing him suddenly turned and ran in that direction.
