53. They're all the same.

53. They're all the same.

After dealing with Chen Donglong, the group made their way to the armory.

Upon opening the door, one finds not only a large amount of ammunition inside, but also several newly arrived heavy machine guns and two heavy howitzer vehicles.

Fu Yunong accepted them all without hesitation. Since the space could be automatically compressed, she figured she might as well take them.

After doing all that, the group returned along the same route, sneaking away unnoticed by anyone.

...

Sun Hui was sleeping very restlessly. In her drowsy state, she seemed to smell a bloody odor. She instantly woke up, opened her eyes, and saw several blurry figures.

Her heart skipped a beat. She was about to call for a guard when, in the next second, a dark gun barrel was pointed at her head.

"Don't make a sound."

Fu Yunong's voice rang out.

Sun Hui composed herself, and upon recognizing the newcomers, a look of surprise and delight appeared on her face. "Yu Nong! It's you!"

Fu Yunong forced a smile, "Long time no see~"

Sun Hui seemed oblivious to the gun barrel, sitting up abruptly and reaching out to grab Fu Yunong's hand, bursting into tears of joy, "I thought you... This is wonderful, wonderful!"

Fu Yunong flinched, "What did you think happened to us?"

Sun Hui's expression stiffened slightly, and she sighed, "Since you left, things have been in chaos here for a while. Later, I received orders from above to deliver a batch of weapons, and only then did I find out that they were specifically designed to deal with you."

"After learning the truth, I was filled with remorse. Although I was just following orders, I can't forgive myself. Thankfully, heaven has eyes and you are all alright; otherwise, I would never have a clear conscience from now on."

"I see." Fu Yunong looked at her leisurely and said slowly, "But how come we heard that you volunteered to deliver the weapons? And that you encouraged your new leader to say that you wanted to eliminate us completely and prevent future troubles?"

Sun Hui's expression changed instantly, and she said firmly, "Impossible! Absolutely impossible! Yu Nong, don't listen to slander! Don't you know my character? How could I possibly harm you!"

"oh?"

As soon as Fu Yunong finished speaking, Shi Dong raised his hand and threw something at Sun Hui.

The thing slammed onto the bed with a thud. Sun Hui looked down and her pupils contracted. It was the new leader's head!

“This…this is…” Sun Hui’s face turned pale and then red. “It’s him! He must be trying to sow discord! I’m just a nobody in the base, how could I possibly persuade the higher-ups? Yu Nong, you absolutely mustn’t believe his nonsense!”

“A dying man’s words are good,” Huangfu Jinrang added sarcastically. “Your leader said that you led a rebellion against Huang Chen, seized her power, and are now the leader of the base’s superhumans.”

Fu Yunong pressed her pistol forward. "Commander Sun, why don't you share this joyous occasion with us?"

Now that things had come to this, Sun Hui stopped pretending. Her expression darkened, and her eyes turned sinister. "I didn't expect your lives to be so tough. Even this couldn't kill you!"

"So that day, you deliberately came to our door just to separate us?" Xiao Linfang's voice was deep. "How exactly did Tang Lan die?"

Sun Hui snorted coldly, leaned against the headboard, and said with a "what's the use" attitude, "If you want to know, just go down and ask her yourself. The victor is king, the loser is villain; no need for further explanation. Kill me or do whatever you want, it's all up to you!"

After saying that, she suddenly laughed maniacally, the shrunken skin around her right eye twitching uncontrollably with excitement. "Don't be so smug! There are plenty of people who want it..."

"puff!"

Before she could finish speaking, the bullet had already pierced her head. Sun Hui's expression froze, and she slammed heavily onto the bed, motionless.

"boom!!!"

With a deafening roar, the Watchers' base armory burst into flames.

Everyone in the base was awakened and chaos ensued.

Fu Yunong and her group, guns in hand, were unstoppable, smashing through everything in their path and destroying every single one of the base's iconic buildings.

After rushing out of the city gate, the car drove several hundred meters before stopping. Fu Yunong had a thought, and a heavy artillery piece appeared out of thin air. Shi Dong immediately crawled inside.

"boom!"

"boom!"

"boom!"

After a few shells, a large section of the sturdy city gate was blasted down.

You like to bombard them, huh? Here you go!

The men would change positions after firing a few shots, and most of the once-solid city wall collapsed.

The bombing didn't end until dawn, leaving behind fires and ruins everywhere.

Fu Yunong stared blankly at everything before her, but felt no joy whatsoever.

This damn world.

...

At the entrance of the Qinglong Base, two women with tattered clothes and dark faces were queuing to register.

The guard registering the information had a "B" stamped on his forehead. He raised his eyelids slightly and lazily asked, "Name?"

"Zou Xiaoyu." "Wang Dong."

"Is he a superhuman?"

The two said in unison, "No."

What are your special skills?

Zou Xiaoyu lowered her head in shame, while Wang Dong raised his chin, his tone completely calm, "A professional soldier, who once served in the special forces."

The registrant looked them up and down and then waved.

Immediately, two women with a "C" printed between their foreheads stepped forward and roughly searched the two men's bodies. After confirming that they had no weapons, the registrant picked up the ink-stained stamp and pressed it heavily on Zou Xiaoyu and Wang Dong's foreheads.

"Go with her." The registrant gestured towards one of them and then ignored them.

The woman leading the way walked quickly ahead, reminding everyone in a low voice, "Once you get here, you have to follow the rules. Remember: if you encounter someone of higher rank than you, step aside and don't make eye contact; if you encounter someone without a mark, they are a 'noble person'! You must immediately kneel on the ground, face to the ground, and be very respectful."

She paused, her voice now carrying a hint of warning, "No matter what happens, don't resist. Just endure it and you'll survive!"

Zou Xiaoyu couldn't help but ask, "But she was a special forces soldier before, how come she's only a D-rank soldier?"

The woman glanced back at Wang Dong and scoffed, "It's the world of superhumans now, special forces are nothing."

As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd in front suddenly stirred. Pedestrians knelt down on the roadside in unison. Some people lost their footing and fell directly into the mud, but they didn't dare to get up.

The woman who had led the way turned pale and grabbed Zou Xiaoyu and Wang Dong, pressing them to the ground. "Kneel down! Kneel down! Our esteemed guests have arrived!"

Zou Xiaoyu and Wang Dongfei quickly crouched down in the crowd, stealing glances out of the corner of their eyes.

"Get out of my way! You blind fool!"

Suddenly, a guard raised his whip and lashed it hard on the back of a man who was slow to kneel.

The man screamed and rolled on the ground as the whip lashed him repeatedly until he fell silent. Only then were he dragged away by two guards like a dead dog.

At the corner, a group of knights led the way, some carrying banners embroidered with blue dragons, others carrying bright yellow canopies. Behind them were more than a dozen black cars, the one in the middle gilded so brightly that it was hard to open one's eyes.

The wind lifted a corner of the car window curtain, revealing a bright yellow cushion underneath, but no figures could be seen.

After the convoy drove away, people gradually got up, their knees and palms covered in mud.

Inside the base, there were low shacks everywhere, crammed together with no ventilation. The roads were muddy, and the air was filled with the stench of feces and rotting matter.

Zou Xiaoyu covered her nose. "Is there any need to go in?"

Wang Dong glanced at the survivors huddled by the roadside and said calmly, "Let's go."

The two silently circled around to the back, using a corner piled with garbage as a cover. The woman who had led the way turned around, but the man had vanished.

On the other side, at the Xuanwu base.

The two sisters, Xiao Fang and Xiao Jin, were mixed in with the survivors and pushed onto an open-top truck.

The truck bed was packed with people, each with high cheekbones, sunken eyes, and a listless appearance.

A middle-aged man with graying hair leaned against the carriage, sobbing softly as he recounted how his entire family had died on the road and how he had endured countless hardships to get here.

No one comforted him; the truck bed was deathly silent.

Who isn't like this? They've already cried all their tears.

The truck slowly drove into the base, and the heavy city gate closed behind it.

The survivors clung to the car's edge, peering out. The light in their eyes gradually dimmed: the houses along the road were more intact than those outside, yet still dilapidated, and the pedestrians wore tattered clothes, their bodies barely larger than theirs.

Suddenly, the truck came to a screeching halt.

Several people dressed in white robes stood in front of them, with black tortoise patterns embroidered on their sleeves; they were the elders of the Xuanwu Base.

The driver quickly turned off the engine, lowered his head, and dared not speak.

One of the white-robed elders swept his gaze across the crowd, then suddenly fixed it on a young woman. "You, come here."

Two guards immediately stepped forward and roughly grabbed the woman.

The woman screamed and struggled, "Let me go! Let me go!"

Her husband rushed over to stop him, but an elder in white robes raised his hand and a hammer appeared out of thin air in his hand.

"Bang!"

The sound of bones shattering was clearly audible as the hammer struck.

The man screamed and fell to the ground. The hammer fell again and again, splattering blood and flesh all over the ground until he became a pile of minced meat.

The smell of blood and stench mingled with screams, and the people in the truck bed trembled with fear.

It turns out, it's the same everywhere.

Xiao Fang and Xiao Jin exchanged a glance, then quickly jumped off the vehicle amidst the chaos. Before leaving, Xiao Jin looked back one last time before her figure disappeared into the cluster of shacks.

...

The closer you get to Cloud Peak City, the more different the surrounding scenery becomes.

The desolate ruins were gradually replaced by stone paths. On the edge of the cliff in the distance, you could vaguely see clusters of stone buildings. The ice field at the foot of the mountain was shrouded in a thin mist, exuding a mysterious beauty.

Three women lined up together at the city gate to register.

After the routine search, one of them was put into an off-road vehicle alone, while the other two were taken to a covered transport vehicle.

Although the temperature is rising, it's still quite cold right now, so having a shed to block the wind is a good thing.

Once the carriages were full, the train slowly drove towards the inner city.

The city walls and buildings of Cloud Peak City are all made of bluish-gray stone, the streets are wide and clean, and the houses are arranged in a neat manner.

As the car drove by, a number of onlookers stood on both sides of the road, their eyes full of curiosity.

After testing her skills, Xiao Linfang was assigned a single room, instead of having to share a large communal room with the other survivors.

The person in charge of distributing the food handed over the meal tickets, saying, "These are from the base. You'll have to earn points to exchange for food from now on, but those with special abilities will receive preferential treatment."
