0017 Avoiding Suspicion
After spending five days in City A, Jiang Jifan had basically completed most of the work. On the sixth day, he finished up the remaining tasks and immediately said goodbye to the person in charge.
Before leaving, Tantai Qing wanted to take her to the airport, but her colleague Chen Xun found it strange and quietly asked her, "What's going on?"
Jiang Jifan pretended not to know, shook his head, smiled and said, "Maybe he's just a gentleman."
After all, they are partners.
"Is that so..." Chen Xun glanced at her suspiciously, but seeing her calm and composed, he didn't say anything more.
Seeing that Li Yan was about to come over and help them put their luggage away, Jiang Jifan pressed down the handle of the suitcase, handed it to him, and thanked him.
"I get a little carsick, I'll sit in the passenger seat," Chen Xun suggested before getting in the car.
This was exactly what Tantai Qing wanted.
He smiled slightly, nodded, and said, "Miss Chen, please feel free to do as you please."
And so, Jiang Jifan and he sat together in the back seat.
With colleagues present, she became noticeably more cautious. From the moment he offered to take them to the airport until they got into the car, Jiang Jifan barely said a word, perfectly embodying the persona of a "not-so-familiar stranger."
Chen Xun, however, was unusually talkative, chatting animatedly with Li Yan, who was driving.
As Jiang Jifan listened to them talk about everything from work to family and life, he gradually became sleepy. He covered his mouth and yawned, blinking his eyes in an attempt to stop the tears that welled up from the yawn.
Tantai Qing glanced at her and, seeing that she was somewhat drowsy, reminded Li Yan to turn off the music.
It would take almost an hour to get to the airport. Jiang Jifan glanced at his phone and realized he still had plenty of time, so he found a comfortable position to sit down and dozed off, propping his head up with his hand.
Tantai Qingcai was finally able to openly stare at her.
On the way, they encountered a pedestrian who ran a red light. Li Yan slammed on the brakes, and the people in the car were thrown forward by inertia.
He quickly used his hand to brace her and prevent her from hitting the seat in front of her.
Jiang Jifan was startled awake. When he opened his eyes, he saw a terrified passerby hurrying away from the front of the car, while he was being supported by the passerby.
"Are you alright?" he asked softly, looking down.
She looked up and the first thing she saw was his eyes behind his glasses, which were looking at her with tenderness and concern.
Jiang Jifan's heart skipped a beat.
"It's alright, thank you." She came to her senses and realized that he was the one who prevented her from getting hurt, so she thanked him politely.
Tantai Qing was very tactful and knew that she didn't want to reveal too much about their relationship in front of her colleagues.
Although they didn't have any connection to begin with.
After seeing her sit up straight, he withdrew his hand, told Li Yan to drive carefully, and then returned to his previous silence, but he still couldn't help but steal glances at her out of the corner of his eye during the journey.
Halfway through the drive, Jiang Jifan got thirsty and took out a new bottle of mineral water, but couldn't open it for a long time.
It was the same last time; it seems like she can't open the bottle whenever she meets him, even though she's usually the one who helps others open theirs.
She rolled her eyes silently, tossed the bottled water back into her bag with some impatience, and sulked with a cold expression.
She couldn't say why she was angry; perhaps it was because she had shown him too much vulnerability, which made her feel very uncomfortable.
About half a minute later, a bottle of mineral water was suddenly handed to me.
She lazily raised her eyes and glanced at the bottle of mineral water that didn't belong to her, only to find that someone had already opened it.
Seeing that she was hesitant to take it, Tantai Qing did not become impatient. He tightened the bottle cap slightly, placed the mineral water next to her, and turned his head to look at the scenery outside the window.
After a while, I heard a slight sloshing sound of water and swallowing sounds.
He was still looking at the scenery, but when she couldn't see him, he subtly curled the corner of his mouth.
Fortunately, Li Yan was very perceptive. After arriving at the airport, he went to great lengths to get Chen Xun away and create opportunities for them to be alone.
Only then did Tantai Qing have the opportunity to take out the things he had prepared in the trunk.
"What is this?" Jiang Jifan didn't take it, but glanced at the black gift bag in his hand and asked in confusion.
"Take a look."
Many guesses flashed through her mind. After hesitating for a long time, she finally couldn't resist her curiosity and gently tugged at the bag with her fingers to peek inside.
It was the mini robot she had her eye on at the factory that day. Although it was wrapped in packaging, she recognized it at a glance.
Jiang Jifan was surprised that he would give her this, and Tantai Qing explained, "I saw you looking at me a few more times at the factory that day."
So he guessed his feelings from this?
Jiang Jifan couldn't help but feel that his observational skills were extraordinary.
Actually, she wasn't someone who liked accepting gifts casually, but then she realized that she had received something from him before...
That little cake tasted really good.
Realizing this fact, she hesitated slightly, her expression shifting from her initial intention to refuse.
Seeing that she was wavering, Tantai Qing immediately seized the opportunity and said, "Take it, it's just a small gift, consider it a reward for accompanying me to the hospital..."
He always seemed to make excuses to get her to accept gifts, like that time when she barely put any effort into accompanying him.
Seeing that Chen Xun was about to come over, Jiang Jifan was afraid that his disguise would be ruined. After thinking for a moment, he reached out and took the things from Chen Xun's hands, quickly thanked him, and then fled away from him as if he were escaping.
Tantai Qing breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she had accepted it, but he also found her behavior of avoiding suspicion somewhat amusing.
As they prepared to board, Chen Xun waved goodbye to them warmly. Jiang Jifan, standing in the queue, glanced back and saw the tall, elegant man standing not far away, watching him.
"Jifan, why didn't you say goodbye to them? They even brought us here..."
Jiang Jifan was nudged a few times with his elbow by her, and unable to resist, he reluctantly raised his hand and waved it a few times perfunctorily.
Tantai Qing had just raised his hand when he saw her turn her head away, so he could only quietly withdraw it and purse his lips.
