0149 Reunion (2)
To avoid noise in the lobby, Chi Wei specially chose the quietest private room and invited the group to sit down.
"Da da da!"
As the people inside the private room introduced themselves, the crisp sound of wooden clogs clicking on the ground came from outside the door.
A moment later, a figure wearing a pink kimono pushed open the door and entered.
The conversation paused for a moment, and everyone turned their gaze toward the door.
But a petite girl with a sweet face stood at the door, her bangs slightly messy, looking a bit clumsy.
"Ah, I'm sorry! I'm late!" Then she bowed to them and said in Japanese, her sweet voice tinged with a slight pant.
Apart from Jiang Jifan, the others present could not understand Japanese, but they roughly knew that she was apologizing to them. Due to the language barrier, they could only give her a polite smile.
Ayako Sakai walked quickly to Chi Wei's side and apologized softly, "Chi Wei-kun, I'm sorry..."
"It's alright," Chi Wei said gently, then naturally pulled out a chair for her and let her sit down next to her.
Ayako Sakai sat down, looked at the unfamiliar Chinese guests at the table, and greeted them with a shy and sweet smile in slightly broken Chinese: "Hello, my name is Ayako Sakai."
"This is my wife, Xiao Xun's mother," Chi Wei then introduced them.
His wife...
Jiang Jifan stared at him blankly, and when he saw him say those words with such an open and honest expression, a bitter feeling inexplicably welled up in her heart.
Fearing she might not understand, Chi Wei even switched to Japanese to introduce her: "Ayako, this is mine..."
After meeting Jiang Jifan's gaze, he paused for a moment, glancing away to hide the awkwardness in his eyes, before saying, "These are my college classmates and her friends."
When Jiang Jifan saw him describe their relationship so casually, his eyes dimmed instantly.
Tantai Qing glanced at her, noticing that she was staring intently at Chi Wei, and felt a little strange.
However, Ayako Sakai looked surprised when she saw her face clearly, "Oh! You are..."
She glanced at Chi Wei, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping herself.
"Ayako, let's entertain our guests first," Chi Wei said, quickly changing the subject, fearing that Ayako was about to say something embarrassing.
Ayako Sakai obediently agreed and introduced the restaurant's delicacies to them one by one.
"Does Miss Jiang like salmon?" Ayako Sakai asked enthusiastically, offering to make her her signature salmon dish.
Before Jiang Jifan could respond, Chi Wei stopped him, saying, "No need, Ayako, she doesn't like raw food."
"Ah? Really? Okay..." She looked very disappointed, looking at Jiang Jifan with regret, as if it was a pity that someone would not like such delicious food.
Jiang Jifan was stunned.
He even remembered her eating habits...
The crowd exchanged subtle glances, including Tantai Qing, who silently sized up Jiang Jifan and Chi Wei, gradually developing suspicions.
After ordering, they started chatting.
"Miss Jiang is really beautiful." Perhaps because she was in a relaxed mood, Ayako Sakai blurted out in Japanese, then covered her mouth apologetically after realizing what she had said.
Jiang Jifan forced a smile and calmly replied in Japanese, "Thank you."
Ayako Sakai was even more excited when she learned that Ayako also spoke Japanese, and she poured out her words to her like a floodgate had been opened.
"Oh! How amazing! This aunt has the same dimples and fangs as my mom..." The little boy next to Chi Wei suddenly exclaimed, his eyes lingering on the two women with the same physical features.
The three of them were stunned.
Jiang Jifan stared at Ayako Sakai's dimples and fangs, and an extremely shameless conjecture surfaced in his mind.
However, after a moment, she laughed at herself inwardly.
What is she thinking? So much time has passed...
Since Chi Wei remained silent, Sakai Ayako had to step in to smooth things over. She chuckled twice, turned around, patted her son's head, and praised, "Xiao Xun has such sharp eyes! But Miss Jiang is much prettier than her mother..."
Anyone with eyes can see that they are completely different types. Jiang Jifan is a bright and flamboyant mature woman with charm in every gesture, while Sakai Ayako is like a lively and energetic beautiful girl who came out of a Japanese drama. Her face is young and she has a youthful vigor that does not match her age. If you didn't know, you would never guess that she is already a mother of a child of several years old.
Xiao Xun didn't like her belittling herself like that, so she wrinkled her nose and disagreed, saying, "Xiao Xun thinks Mom is the most beautiful woman in the world, right, Dad?"
He turned to look at his father, hoping to receive the same affirmation from him.
Chi Wei clearly didn't want to answer the question, and looked at him seriously, saying, "Xiao Xun, one should not speak while eating or sleeping."
The little boy seemed very afraid of him, and immediately shut his mouth and stopped talking.
As the food was served, everyone focused on enjoying it and didn't pay much attention to their conversation.
Chi Wei hadn't really looked at Jiang Jifan closely since he met her. During the meal, his gaze inadvertently fell on her, and when he saw a certain item on her, his eyes froze for a moment.
Jiang Jifan wasn't really in the mood to enjoy the food; she had been keeping an eye on the person opposite her out of the corner of her eye. When she noticed a gaze on her, she quickly looked up and saw that he was staring at the necklace around her neck.
She paused, then, as if remembering something, pursed her lips. To hide her guilty conscience, she then casually lowered her head and tucked the necklace into her collar.
She suddenly regretted wearing that necklace when she went out today.
Her actions were tantamount to burying her head in the sand, instantly making Chi Wei, who had initially thought she was mistaken, realize the truth.
I never expected it to really be that necklace...
Knowing the truth, he lowered his eyes, his mood suddenly becoming somewhat depressed.
Tantai Qing observed them silently from the sidelines the whole time.
He wasn't stupid; he could tell at a glance that Jiang Jifan cared about Chi Wei. In addition, the almost zero interaction between them seemed too strange, not at all like ordinary classmates who hadn't seen each other for a long time and had suddenly reunited.
At first, he comforted himself, thinking he might be overthinking things, but now it seems he might be the one who's been kept in the dark...
Tantai Qingyue pondered deeply, feeling increasingly uneasy.
Seeing him put down his chopsticks with a sullen face, Cheng Jing casually asked, "What's wrong? Doesn't it suit your taste?"
"It's nothing," he said calmly.
Look, even Cheng Jing noticed that something was wrong with him, but she, sitting next to him, was completely unaware.
Halfway through her meal, Xiao Xun suddenly stopped chewing and jokingly asked Jiang Jifan, "Pretty auntie, I've seen you in Daddy's photo album. Are you Daddy's girlfriend?"
Kanojo: roughly meaning "girlfriend" in Japanese.
