0168 State of mind
Several days later, Jiang Jifan was finally able to remove the cast from his legs.
After the heavy plaster cast was removed, Jiang Jifan's skin, which had been suffocated for so long, was finally able to breathe fresh air, and his brow relaxed in relief.
She sat on the bed and touched her left leg, which had shrunk considerably since the cast was removed, feeling conflicted.
The doctor explained the precautions: "After the cast is removed, you can move the joints a little, but you can't put weight on it for now..."
"How are you feeling?" Tantai Qing leaned in and asked her.
Jiang Jifan tried to move his hands and feet, which had been removed from the cast, but found them to be limp and he still couldn't muster any strength.
"I have no strength," she said.
The doctor laughed and said it was normal, and told Tantai Qing to take her outside for some exercise when she had time.
Tantai Qing responded.
After breakfast, Tantai Qing pushed her in a wheelchair to the hospital's back garden to help her digest.
It was autumn, and the morning was slightly cool. He spread out a thin blanket and covered her in front of him.
Are you cold?
Jiang Jifan shook his head and said he wasn't cold.
"We're about to get into the elevator."
The special needs ward is located in a separate building, unlike the crowded regular inpatient ward. The elevator takes you there quickly, and the ward is empty.
Jiang Jifan was pushed into the elevator by him. The slight dizziness that came with the elevator descending made her truly realize that she had left the ward.
After exiting the elevator, the surrounding environment became noisy.
Because she cannot see, she can only judge her surroundings by the sounds she hears.
"Nannan, slow down!" came the woman's voice.
The next second, the wheelchair stopped, and a fleshy ball of flesh slammed into her legs.
"Nannan!" The woman rushed over in a panic, picked up the little girl who had fallen to the ground, and apologized to them repeatedly.
"Jifan, is there anything that's bothering you?" Tantai Qing knelt down beside the wheelchair and checked her legs.
"I'm fine." She pursed her lips, her lifeless eyes following the woman's voice.
The woman seemed to realize that she was blind, and her words became increasingly filled with guilt.
In the end, they didn't pursue the matter, and it passed like a minor incident.
As Tantai Qing slowly pushed her into the back garden, he gently described the landscape and flowers in the garden to her.
All Jiang Jifan could see was darkness, and he could only imagine his current environment from the sounds he heard and his descriptions.
As she walked slowly, the warm sunlight occasionally fell on her, making her feel incredibly warm and comfortable.
"I want to bask in the sun."
Having stayed in the hospital ward for so long, she felt like she would get moldy if she didn't get some sun soon.
Tantai Qing then found a suitable spot to stop, letting her bask in the sunlight.
Golden sunlight shone on her, making her fair skin almost translucent. Her every move was calm and gentle, and she seemed fragile, a stark contrast to her usual radiant self.
Perhaps his gaze was too intense, for Jiang Jifan noticed and turned his face to face.
If you ignore her unfocused eyes, she looks as if she is truly staring at him.
Touched, Tantai Qing reached out and gently touched her eyes with his finger, her curled eyelashes fluttering a few times against his finger.
Jiang Jifan was wondering why he suddenly acted this way when he heard him withdraw his hand and say, "It will be alright."
It goes without saying what will get better.
She paused slightly and lowered her eyes.
"Mom, the kite has flown away!" A loud shout broke their reverie.
Immediately, a beautifully crafted kite came whistling in and finally landed gently in Jiang Jifan's arms.
The kite's owner came searching, and it turned out to be the same mother and daughter they had just encountered.
The young mother was also very surprised to see them, and she went up to them with her child, apologizing awkwardly.
Just as she was thinking about how to get the kite back from Jiang Jifan's arms, Tantai Qing suddenly spoke up: "It seems we are destined to meet. If you don't mind, could you sell this kite to me?"
The woman was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, but the little girl she was holding spoke up first: "No need to sell, you can have her!"
The little girl stared at Jiang Jifan in the wheelchair, scratching her pigtails and racking her brains to say, "Pretty, with pretty..."
Jiang Jifan moved his hand and stroked the finely crafted kite in his arms.
This was the first thing she encountered in the outside world after waking up.
I heard her whisper, "Thank you."
On the way back, Jiang Jifan played with the kite resting on her lap, feeling that the world wasn't as bad as she had imagined.
