It's often said that there's no such thing as a free lunch; if something falls from the sky, it's likely a trap.
But Amandine's offer was a real windfall, and with the He Group backing her, Nan Xian accepted it almost without hesitation.
Amandine acted swiftly; after confirming the contract details via video conference, they quickly released the news.
However, she played a trick, not directly stating that she would become the chief spokesperson for China, but rather vaguely revealing some "insider information," making people subconsciously think that Nan Xian would take over the position of that diva and become the next image ambassador.
Even so, this sudden move shocked many people. Those outside the industry who were unaware of the inside story were naturally incredulous, while those who knew the inside story could only grit their teeth and swallow their envy as they rushed to congratulate Nan Xian.
After replying to the message, Nan Xian looked up and saw that the clock had already struck twelve.
"Sister, take a break. We can deal with these things later." Ding He helped her put away the paper contract she had just printed. "What do you want to eat for lunch? I'll go buy it for you."
Just as Nan Xian was about to answer, she suddenly heard a knock on the door. She turned around and saw Jiang Xing standing outside the ward with a smile.
Ding He reacted even faster than her, turning her head and glaring at her, saying irritably, "What are you doing here again?"
Throughout the morning, Jiang Xing came to their place countless times, asking if they needed help getting hot water or printing documents. But while saying these things, his eyes kept glancing at Ding He, clearly indicating that his true intentions were not what they seemed.
However, Ding He misunderstood him this time.
Jiang Xing blinked innocently at her, picked up the lunchbox in his hand, and said, "I've brought the food." He then looked at Nan Xian and nodded slightly. "President He said you might not be used to the food here, so he specifically asked me to buy it when I returned to the capital. It includes your favorite honey-glazed roast duck."
Ding He choked, then pursed her lips and softly said "Oh," "Give it to me."
Jiang Xing lowered his eyes, his gaze softening with a gentle smile. As she drew closer, he lowered his voice and said, "I also brought you some food, and some chestnut cake from Su Xin Fang. I remember you said you liked it last time, right?"
Ding He was stunned when she heard this. She looked up in surprise and met Jiang Xing's gaze. Her ears instantly felt like they were on fire.
She hurriedly looked away, "Who, who said they liked it? I just thought it tasted okay, I didn't say I liked it!"
She vehemently denied it, but her face clearly betrayed her attempt to cover it up, making it hard for anyone not to notice.
Jiang Xing didn't expose her, and smiled as he agreed. He handed the lunchbox to her, and before leaving, he reminded her, "Eat it while it's hot, it won't taste good when it's cold."
Ding He feigned impatience: "I know, I know, you're so long-winded!"
"This guy is really something, so incessant..." she complained as she closed the door, picked up the lunchbox, walked to the table, and laid out the plates one by one.
Nan Xian silently watched the whole thing, her face beaming with amusement. Hearing this, she raised an eyebrow and said meaningfully, "The more I watch, the more I feel like Jiang Xing isn't just putting on a show for himself."
Ding He didn't react at first, but after realizing what she meant, her face turned bright red instantly.
Nan Xian teased, "What's there to be shy about? You're not a child anymore. It's perfectly normal to date!"
Ding He hesitated for a moment, then suddenly remembered something, and the shyness on her face vanished, and she unconsciously slowed down her plating movements.
Her smile faded, she lowered her eyes, and her tone became slightly melancholic, as if she were talking to herself:
"Never mind... my family situation is rather complicated, so I won't hold them back..."
