Who goes there?
His voice was clear and bright, like jade striking each other, with a distinct yet relatively calm tone, but it carried a chilling air of authority.
Nan Xian quickly glanced at the feathered arrow stuck in the snow, not daring to be careless, and even hid herself further behind the rock.
She squeezed her palms, which had become stiff and numb from the cold, her mind racing. She had already guessed that the dream she was in was no longer under her control—or rather, this was no longer a dream, but a real world.
Not yet certain whether the other party was friend or foe, she dared not act rashly. After a few moments of deliberation, Nan Xian cautiously replied, "I am just an ordinary person who has stumbled in by mistake. I do not know where this place is and I have no ill intentions. Please, immortal, show mercy."
The man in the white wolf mask snorted softly upon hearing this, seemingly not believing her explanation.
"Then why did you hide the guide flower and the bluebird in your pocket? Was it also by accident?"
Nan Xian gave a bitter smile; at this moment, she was truly speechless.
How should I answer this? I can't exactly say it was all by accident, that the flower just drifted into her palm, and that the bird just fainted on its own, can I?
She pulled the guideflower and the bluebird out of her pocket, placed them on the snow, and pushed them off the rocks with a finger.
Seeing her sudden movement, the man in the white wolf mask immediately raised his longbow, the string taut.
"Don't be nervous, don't be nervous!" Nan Xian quickly shrank back. "I'll give them back to you!"
The man in the white wolf mask seemed to have not expected her to do this. His movements froze, and the ripples spreading steadily beneath his feet became slightly disordered for a second.
After a moment of silence, he raised his hand, and a flash of silver light suddenly appeared in his wide sleeve.
Nan Xian heard a very faint "whoosh" sound, and the guide flower and the bluebird disappeared without a trace.
"This is not a place for mortals like you. Leave immediately, or I will show no mercy."
He said this, then turned and left.
Nan Xian listened intently for a while, and when she heard no more noise, she cautiously peeked out and looked around. Seeing that he had indeed left, she breathed a sigh of relief.
She stood up, brushed the snow off her clothes, and paused when she caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of her eye.
The arrow was still stuck in the snow. When the sunlight shone on it, the exposed part of the arrow shaft turned transparent, with a faint golden light flowing through it. It was extremely beautiful.
A look of amazement flashed in her eyes, and she couldn't help but step closer.
The closer she got, the more the arrow seemed to beckon her with magic. Her breathing slowed unconsciously, her pupils began to dilate, and as if bewitched, she reached out and grasped it.
The next moment—
A strong wind suddenly swept across the ground, making Nan Xian's hair fly wildly. She turned her head and squinted, instinctively gripping the feathered arrow tightly, struggling to steady herself.
Her knuckles turned white from the force, and the wound on her fingertip, pecked open by the bluebird, reopened, oozing thin streams of blood.
Blood stained the arrow, and the golden light instantly accelerated its flow, swirling together in a vortex centered on her wound.
The wind grew stronger, and Nan Xian clung tightly to the arrow as if it were a lifeline, curling up into a ball next to it.
Snow covered her eyes, preventing her from seeing the strange phenomenon happening to her—the golden light gradually gathered in the arrow shaft into a tiny human figure, which maintained the same curled-up posture as Nan Xian, and then suddenly stretched out its limbs, releasing a light as dazzling as the sun.
"Bang!" The wind stopped, and the arrow broke.
It burrowed into Nan Xian's body, and behind her, a fox tail formed of golden light suddenly appeared, swaying gently in the air before slowly dissipating.
