Chapter 2 A Belated Sincere Feeling—Even a Dog Wouldn't Want It

The next day.

Nan Xian was awakened by her phone ringing; it was Ding He calling: "Sister, are you awake?"

Nan Xian cleared her throat and hummed in agreement.

"We'll pick you up in half an hour!"

After getting up and washing up, breakfast was already waiting for her on the table.

Knowing that she was prone to water retention in the morning and didn't like bitter coffee, Chen's mother specially cooked red bean soup, with just the right temperature and sweetness.

Soothed by the delicious food, Nan Xian let out a comfortable sigh, her brows and eyes relaxing.

Seeing that she was in a good mood, Chen Ma's eyes darted around, and she turned around and quickly went into the living room, carrying a small paper bag over.

"Madam, my husband asked me to give this to you before he left this morning. He said it's a gift for your anniversary."

The paper bag was printed with a string of English logos, which was Nan Xian's favorite jewelry brand. Inside was a small jewelry box with a dark leather surface that felt very high-quality. Judging from its size, it should be earrings.

Nan Xian paused, then suddenly remembered something. "Did Assistant Jiang bring this this morning?"

"This..." Chen Ma felt guilty and dared not meet her gaze, her fingers twitching nervously. "This is also the master's wish..."

The smile that had just appeared in Nan Xian's eyes instantly turned into indifference.

What's missed is missed; a replacement gift is something even a dog wouldn't want.

With a snap, the jewelry box, which had just been opened a crack, closed again, and the exquisite diamond earrings were once again locked in the darkness before they could even be shown.

Nan Xian coldly pushed it away, her gaze returning to the red bean soup.

Chen Ma looked at the box, then at Nan Xian who was focused on drinking her soup, moved her lips, but in the end, she didn't say anything.

**

Today's photoshoot took place in the studio, and Nan Xian's two long-time partners were doing her styling: Lin Jiaojiao was in charge of makeup, and Xu Pan was in charge of hair.

The three had known each other for many years, and were both partners and friends. While getting their makeup done, they chatted about gossip, and the conversation unknowingly turned to Nan Xian.

Xu Pan pinched a strand of her hair and asked casually, "Xian, I heard that Wei Zeling is up to no good again. She was trending on social media for quite a while yesterday?"

Nan Xian was applying eyeliner with her eyes closed when she heard this, her eyelids twitched, and Lin Jiaojiao's brush shifted an inch.

She erased the mistake and glared at him. "You already know it was intentional, and you still ask!"

Nan Xian knew that Xu Pan was just straightforward, so she didn't feel offended.

She opened her eyes and looked at herself in the mirror.

Luxurious and meticulous skincare kept her 33-year-old face as delicate as a rose in the dew, her makeup perfectly suited to her: long, thin eyebrows, smooth eyeliner, fine, distinct eyelashes, and lips with a hint of pink.

"Elegant and graceful, with a gentle smile, like the moon reflected in water, a fairy in a painting"—this is how her fans praise her.

What was Wei Zeling like again?

She seems to be the center of attention wherever she goes, not only because of her perfectly proportioned figure and hot, sexy outfits, but also because of her warm, sunny California smile and straightforward personality. Very few people who have been with her have any aversion to her.

It's so different from me... worlds apart.

Looking at her long, silky hair that reached her waist in the mirror, Nan Xian suddenly had an idea pop into her head and blurted it out—

"Would it look good if I dyed my hair red?"

The two people behind her were taken aback when they heard this, and looked at her in surprise in the mirror.

Lin Jiaojiao's eyes widened, and after thinking for a moment, she still advised, "Don't do that. You've been growing your hair for so many years... If you damage it by dyeing it, it will be difficult to fix."

Xu Pan nodded in agreement, "Xian, your temperament belongs to the gentle older sister type. Red hair is too flamboyant and unconventional. Only idols in girl groups would dye their hair that color!"

“That’s true.” Nan Xian’s lips curved into a smile, but there was no real joy in her eyes.

Dyeing her hair was just a passing fancy; she knew that what she really wanted was change.

But what exactly needs to be changed... she hasn't figured it out yet.

"Knock knock," the dressing room door was pushed open, and Ding He poked her head in. "Sis, are you okay?"

Nan Xian snapped out of her daze, got up and walked towards her, "Yes, we can take pictures now."

The theme of this photoshoot is "Standing at Thirty".

Two scenes, two outfits, and it was already afternoon by the time we finished shooting.

He Mingxiao sent her a message in the morning asking if she liked the gift. Nan Xian was about to reply when the interview team arrived ahead of time.

Nan Xian then put away her phone, gathered her hair back into a low ponytail with a hair tie, and followed Ding He out.

The interviewer was a male editor surnamed Yue. He had a buzz cut, wore glasses, and was serious and rarely smiled.

The two quickly got to the point, and Ding He had personally confirmed that all the interview content was correct.

However, halfway through the process, Ding He, who was watching from the sidelines, was suddenly called away, apparently because there was something wrong with the photos.

Nan Xian caught a glimpse of this scene out of the corner of her eye, and subconsciously tensed up, her hands folded on her knees tightening slightly.

She had a bad feeling.

Sitting opposite her, Editor Yue scrutinized her with interest, then closed his script, a malicious glint suddenly flashing in his eyes hidden behind his glasses.

"Nan Xian, you have been an actress for thirteen years and have filmed a total of nine film and television works, including works by famous directors, but the only one that has won an award is your debut work."

He paused deliberately at this point, a subtle smile playing on his lips, as if mocking, "People speculate that your bloom was too short and you've lost your charm, or that you can't balance your career and love. What do you think about that?"

After he finished speaking, the entire interview room fell silent; you could hear a pin drop.

Nan Xian glanced out of the corner of her eye and saw the camera lens turn towards her. She knew that any slight change in her facial expression at this moment would not escape the capture of the high-definition lens.
