Chapter 219 Don't Ask What You Shouldn't Ask

When Yu Lin saw the small, dilapidated tile-roofed house swaying precariously in the cold wind, he was dumbfounded.

In his nineteen years of life, he had never seen such a dilapidated house, and it wasn't some abandoned old house; it was inhabited.

"Sister, are you sure the person you're looking for lives in here?" He couldn't hide his surprise. He glanced at the camera and lowered his voice, "No offense, but—is it really safe for someone to live here?"

Nan Xian couldn't help but chuckle. She patted his shoulder and said, "You're just making a fuss over nothing. The more you experience real rural areas, the more places like this you'll see."

Yu Lin was still somewhat skeptical. He wondered to himself if this was a deliberate arrangement by the production team. Otherwise, how could he explain that all the other houses along the way were neat and clean, but this one house was so out of place?

With this mix of skepticism and curiosity, he followed Nan Xian into the neglected courtyard that had been left unattended for years.

It had rained last night, and the soil in the yard was still a little damp. The two of them trudged through the mud, and by the time they finally reached the door, their feet were covered in mud.

Nan Xian went to knock on the door first.

After three knocks, the wooden door was opened a crack, and the simple-minded woman gripped the doorknob tightly with both hands, looking warily at the people outside.

Nan Xian didn't explain anything, but opened the wooden box and handed it to her.

The old woman was confused for a few moments, then her expression changed, and she stared at Nan Xian's face in astonishment.

She smiled and met her gaze.

After a moment, the simple-minded woman slowly opened the wooden door.

The cameramen who were filming wanted to come in too, but as soon as they took a step, the silly woman's face fell and she shook her head seriously.

It means they are not welcome.

Nan Xian then said, "Thank you for waiting outside for a while. We'll just have a few words to say and will be out soon."

She pointed to the miniature camera on her chest and said, "With this, you can rest assured."

The younger cameraman on the right looked in the direction she was pointing, paused, and subconsciously said, "Hey, that looks like—" It wasn't turned on.

Before he could finish speaking, his companion nudged his elbow. Although he was a little confused, he was perceptive enough to immediately shut up and stop talking.

The companion said to Nan Xian and Yu Lin, "No problem, we'll wait at the door!"

After watching the two enter the small tile-roofed house, the cameraman couldn't help but ask, "Brother, their cameras aren't turned on. How are we going to get footage? What if we don't have enough footage? Will the director...?"

His companion put down the camera and took out cigarettes and a lighter from his pocket.

The flame flickered slightly in the cold wind, and the cigarette butt flickered with an orange-red light.

He slowly took a puff, the white smoke he exhaled was swept away by the cold wind, he squinted his eyes and flicked off the ash.

"You look unfamiliar, are you new to the industry?"

The young cameraman chuckled sheepishly, “I’ve been interning for a few months now. I wasn’t originally supposed to be the one filming the regular guests, but Brother Chen sprained his ankle in the last episode, so he let me fill in for one episode temporarily.”

His companion nodded knowingly, took another puff, and slowly said, "It's normal to not know some rules when you're new to this business. I'll tell you today: don't ask questions you shouldn't ask. Playing dumb when the time is right won't do you any harm."

The cameraman turned his head away from the unpleasant smell of smoke, glanced at the door of the small tile-roofed house, then looked at his companion's meaningful gaze, and nodded as if he understood.
