Chapter 254 Another Wave Rises

Earlier, the village chief had received a hint from Nan Xian to go home and wait for her instructions. However, no sooner had he arrived than Wei Zeling followed him.

She was initially very friendly, and there was nothing unusual about her greetings and conversations, so the village chief relaxed his guard a little and let her wander around the house at will. Unexpectedly, she went into the backyard when he wasn't paying attention, saw the small house, and immediately wanted to go in to search for clues. When the village chief stopped her, her attitude immediately changed 180 degrees, and she questioned whether he had private contact with the other guests and deliberately hid important clues there.

The real body of Village Chief Gu's father is hidden inside the hut. If it were discovered and exposed to the public, there would be no way to explain it! Unfortunately, the production team had pasted a sticker on the door of the hut at some point. The sticker meant that the guests had the right to enter and collect clues. This rule was agreed upon before filming and could not be changed.

Wei Zeling held the upper hand based on this point, and she confronted him head-on, refusing to back down in the slightest. The village chief couldn't think of any plausible excuse for the time being. He wanted to use magic to dissuade Wei Zeling from her idea, but he was worried about being on camera and afraid of exposing himself, so he dared not make any rash moves.

The two sides remained deadlocked until Nan Xian arrived.

As soon as Wei Zeling finished speaking, everyone present turned to look at Nan Xian, waiting for her reply.

Nan Xian withdrew her gaze from the door of the hut, subtly giving the village chief a look that said "stay calm," before calmly looking at Wei Zeling.

She said, “You don’t need to make such assumptions. I have never met the village chief before, and this is only the second time we have met. He has no reasonable reason to help me. You might say that someone may have bribed him, but if he is just acting out of personal desires, with so many cameras recording this, once the flaw is exposed, not only me, but also the village chief’s reputation will be criticized by public opinion.”

She paused, chuckled, and adopted a lighter tone: "To be honest, I, Nan Xian, wouldn't go to such lengths to win a game."

Wei Zeling's expression was somewhat unpleasant, but she clearly had no intention of letting Nan Xian off easily. "Your words sound nice, but who knows if they're true besides yourself? You're quick to distance yourself, but isn't this kind of thing a gamble? If I hadn't arrived here before you today, wouldn't you have already succeeded?"

The village chief was at his wits' end. He held the door tightly shut while loudly explaining, "This is really a misunderstanding! This room isn't open to the public. It was fine last night, but somehow this sticker was put on it today!"

Wei Zeling's eyes darted around. "Since you say it's not a house with any clues, can't we go in and check it out? Or is it that—you're hiding something you don't want anyone to see in this house?"

"Of course not!" the village chief immediately denied.

"Then why won't they let us in?"

The village chief choked, stammering and unsure how to answer.

Wei Zeling thought she had found a flaw, her eyes lit up, and she immediately pressed on: "If you really have nothing to hide, and are completely open and honest, what are you afraid of being searched for? You must be so guarded because you're afraid we'll see something!"

While she was talking to the village chief, Nan Xian had been observing her. Upon hearing this, she spoke up, "According to our country's laws, even the police cannot arbitrarily enter a resident's home to search without a search warrant. The village chief has already said it's a misunderstanding; this house wasn't prepared for placing clues. It's something that can be resolved by simply confirming with the production team. Why are you keeping bothering me?"

"I noticed you've been so fixated on getting inside. To be honest, it's like there's something in there that you're desperate to get your hands on... The one with the problem isn't the village chief, it seems more like you."
