The consequence of Nan Xian's intense crying was that her eyes swelled up like big walnuts the next day.
She buried her head in the palm leaves, listening to He Mingxiao describe her bizarre behavior yesterday—laughing, crying, and clinging to him affectionately. She felt as if she had been struck by lightning, so ashamed that she wanted to find a hole and bury herself on the spot.
She never wants to drink mushroom soup again, waaaaaah!!!
He Mingxiao poked her with his finger. "I grilled some shrimp. Want some?"
Nan Xian covered her face and muttered, "I won't eat!"
"Still feeling unwell?" he reassured with a smile. "You were like that yesterday because you ate mushrooms. Do you think I don't know what you're like normally? Your stomach will hurt if you don't eat anything, hmm?"
Nan Xian was silent for a moment, then said in a pitiful voice, "My eyes are swollen..."
He Mingxiao was taken aback, then suddenly realized what was going on.
After chuckling for a moment, he left quickly, saying, "The shrimp is on the table. I'm going out for a bit."
Only after he had walked away did Nan Xian slowly peek out.
Because of her swollen eyelids, her field of vision narrowed considerably, and everything in front of her was blurry.
Nan Xian cautiously raised her hand to touch her eyelids, but they were both painful and numb, making her want to cry even more.
She ate two large skewers of grilled shrimp with tears in her eyes, which finally healed her mood a little, but the occasional throbbing pain in her eyes still made her sigh in distress.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps came from outside the cave. She quickly picked up a leaf and held it in front of her eyes.
He Mingxiao entered the cave, panting. He squatted down in front of her and took out two flat stones from a conch shell covered with layers of leaves.
“These were just pulled up from the bottom of the pool, they’re still very cold. If you put them on your eyes, they’ll feel better.”
Nan Xian was slightly taken aback. She moved the leaf aside and realized that he was soaked to the bone, with water still dripping from his hair.
What he is doing is...
Her heart skipped a beat, and for some reason, her throat tightened. "You—"
"What's wrong? Do you need my help?"
He Mingxiao moved closer, and her gaze was instantly filled by him.
Nan Xian's heart softened suddenly.
She pursed her lips, moved the leaf aside, tilted her head back, and closed her eyes.
"Okay, please help me."
He Mingxiao slightly curled the corners of his lips and gave a soft "hmm".
He leaned down, almost breathing in her ear, and then carefully placed the stone against her eyelids, gently rolling it back and forth.
A slight tingling sensation spread from the point of touch, but it was nothing compared to the torment Nan Xian was experiencing.
He Mingxiao changed the stone again, and his little finger touched her cheek during the movement; it was even colder than the stone.
Nan Xian finally spoke up: "He Mingxiao, why are you so good to me?"
Without pausing, he softly asked, "Don't you like it?"
Nan Xian gave a wry smile and tugged at the corners of her mouth.
How could I not like it?
But such unsecured pampering is like honey with a razor blade hidden inside.
She was afraid that if she took another bite, she would end up covered in wounds.
A tear slowly slid down the corner of her eye, carrying a dense, bittersweet feeling.
He Mingxiao saw it, his fingertips twitched slightly, and he gently wiped it away for her.
He gazed at her for a long time, then suddenly said:
"Nanxian, don't be afraid, don't back down."
"I swear, I'll never make you sad again... Let's start over, okay?"
Nan Xian looked up and met his gaze.
Her vision remained narrow, yet she could see the sincerity on his face with unparalleled clarity.
Her heart couldn't help but waver.
Seemingly sensing her hesitation, He Mingxiao said, "You don't need to answer me right away. Tell me your answer after you've thought it through."
Nan Xian's eyes flickered, and she gently lowered her gaze.
"good."
**
Nan Xian's eyes did not fully recover from the swelling until the next day.
The weather was exceptionally good today. There were no clouds at night, and the sky was full of stars, which was breathtaking and beautiful.
She sat on the beach, tracing the outline of the Milky Way with her hand, and murmured, "It's been so many years since I've seen such a beautiful sight..."
He Mingxiao sat down next to her. "Didn't we see an even more beautiful starry sky when we went to Bali for our honeymoon?"
Nan Xian smiled at him but didn't respond, her gaze drawn to what he was holding.
"When did you make this wreath? It's beautiful."
"Just now." He placed the wreath on her head, plucked a thin vine and let it drape over her shoulder, examined it carefully, and concluded:
"The person is more beautiful than the flower."
Nan Xian's cheeks flushed slightly, and she turned her head away, feeling a little hot, and absentmindedly played with the vines.
The waves lapped against her feet, making them feel a little itchy.
The air is filled with the scent of lemons, fresh and slightly sour.
Nan Xian heard her heart pound several times.
She took a deep breath and slowly began to speak:
"I have carefully considered what you said yesterday."
He Mingxiao, who had been sitting leisurely and lazily, immediately sat up straight upon hearing these words.
He nervously swallowed.
"Um."
Nan Xian unconsciously wrapped the vine around her fingers a few times.
"We never confirmed our relationship before we got married, so this time..."
Her eyes flickered several times before she finally made up her mind and said:
"Let's start by dating."
The weight that had been pressing on He Mingxiao's heart suddenly lifted, and his heart soared with joy.
He raised the corners of his mouth high, "Okay, I'll do whatever you say."
He took her hand, which was on his side.
Their skin touched, and their temperatures gradually became the same.
Nan Xian's heart leaped with joy; she seemed to have suddenly gained a clearer understanding—
