Chapter 291 Nan Xian's "Double Standards"

"Feng An, what's wrong? You've been spacing out all day. Did something happen?"

Wu Rao raised her wrist and poured a glass of clear wine into it, then gently pushed it in front of Feng An and tentatively asked.

Feng An snapped out of her daze, quickly composed herself, and shook her head. "No, it's just... I gained some new insights while practicing puppetry today, and I suddenly remembered them just now, which is why I was distracted."

Feng An and Wu Rao had known each other for several years and he had never lied to her about anything. Wu Rao always believed him without question, and upon hearing this, she immediately smiled and said, "That's wonderful! Congratulations! I'll offer you tea instead of wine to celebrate!"

"...Thank you, Fox Lord." Feng An lowered his eyes, suppressing the dark glint in them, and drank the wine in his cup in one gulp.

As night deepened, only the faint chirping of insects could be heard from the depths of the woods.

White Cliff has no seasons or day and night; the sky is a magical illusion. At this moment, the stars are numerous, but in reality, the sun is blazing overhead.

Wu Rao was clearly drinking tea, yet she was drowsy as if drunk, propping her head up with one hand and pecking at the ground like a chick pecking at rice.

"Fox Master, it's chilly at night. Let me help you back to your room." Feng An raised his sleeve to remove the cups and dishes from the stone table and got up to help her.

"Hmm?" Wu Rao opened her eyes groggily, raised her head, and looked at him with a wandering gaze.

Her cheeks were as white as jade, her eyes were hazy and full of affection, and her slightly parted lips were delicate and full, like a rose that beckoned to be picked.

The moonlight, like a thin veil, poured down, as if enveloping her in a watery glow. She looked up at him with a languid posture, her long neck exposed, and the faint blue veins visible beneath her fair skin, making her appear both fragile and alluring.

Feng An paused, his gaze fixed on her face, unwilling to look away, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down.

She blinked, as if noticing his distracted state, chuckled softly, and then her body went limp as she leaned forward. He rushed to catch her, only to be met with a warm and fragrant embrace.

A rich fragrance emanated from the woman's neck; it was clearly the scent of flowers, yet it instantly captivated him.

She nestled against his strong chest, her soft, boneless fingers resting on his shoulder and gently sliding down.

"Don't leave tonight, stay."

Feng An opened his mouth, but his throat was dry and he could hardly make a sound.

The woman, seemingly a little impatient as he didn't respond, snuggled against him affectionately.

The soft touch seemed to penetrate the fabric of their clothes, and their body temperatures merged into the same burning heat. Feng An's rationality collapsed instantly. He closed his eyes tightly, as if using all his strength, and his voice became hoarse.

"good."

The night wind was cunning, blowing through the cracks in the window and lifting the thin rattan curtains hanging at the head of the bed.

Two bodies slept peacefully on the bed, their breathing shallow. The woman lying on the outer side slowly opened her eyes, her gaze clear and bright.

She slowly got up, and the man beside her felt the emptiness in his arms. He murmured and subconsciously reached out to grab it. Wu Rao quickly stuffed a pillow into his arms, and the man hugged it and snuggled against it before falling into a deep sleep again.

She got out of bed, put on her clothes and shoes, and quietly left the room.

The night breeze ruffled her long hair, feeling a bit chilly. She instinctively shivered and pulled her coat tighter.

The courtyard was completely silent; apart from the sound of the wind, there wasn't a single sound.

The noisy chirping of insects disappeared at some point.

Wu Rao's expression was indifferent. She stepped down the stairs, and as she moved, lights lit up one by one.

Stepping into another, even more eerie-looking house, the door opened automatically, revealing countless paper figures piled up behind it. Some were missing limbs, others had no mouth or nose, and some were even cut in half, carelessly tossed there like rags.

Wu Rao walked up to them, casually picked out a few paper figures, disassembled their body parts, and then pieced them back onto another relatively complete paper figure.

She made a hand gesture, and with a flash of silver light, the paper figure's originally limp body gradually stood upright, and the features, hastily drawn with ink, became vivid and lifelike.

Before long, a "person" who looked no different from an ordinary person stood in front of her.

"Master, sir." It opened its mouth stiffly, its pronunciation quite strange.

Wu Rao said, "Go to the human world and find out what exactly happened."

"Yes, Master." This time, it was truly no different from an ordinary person.

**

With the death of the simple-minded woman, Nan Xian's current leads have gone cold again.

Everything seemed to have returned to square one. She had been through so much, yet she still had no clue what to do.

"All I know now is that I have to go to these five places to personally find the 'thing' the old woman talked about, and as for the cycle..." She couldn't help but groan, clutching her head and sighing in distress, "God, why do you have to make me go through all this! If I could choose, I really just want to be an ordinary person, living a simple life..."

As Diao Yu stepped across the threshold, he overheard the last sentence. He couldn't help but chuckle. "My lord, fate is determined by heaven. Since you have embarked on this path, just keep going. Heaven will naturally give you the best arrangement."

Nan Xian pouted, "I hope so—what are you holding?"

Diao Yu handed her the package, grinning slyly, "Hehe, you'll see once you open it."

“You’re just being mysterious,” Nan Xian glanced at him with amusement, opened the package, and stared in surprise at what was inside.

The package was full of clues with stickers from the "Unveiling Ghost Stories" program!

How did you find these?

Keep in mind that he had only been gone for half an hour; it was impossible for him to have collected so many clues in such a short time!
