Chapter 359 A short side story

【The Demon King and the Girl】part 1

Nan Xian envied her relatives.

Her cousin was born with the ability to ride dragons. While her peers walked to school, she rode a fiery red dragon every day, making her the coolest girl in the entire school.

Her aunt could communicate with the elves, and she was the one who facilitated trade between humans and elves;

Her grandmother was a medium who could communicate with the gods living in the clouds and pray for rain for humankind. She was revered by everyone.

But ever since she met He Mingxiao, he has never allowed her to speak to other demons again.

**

In a small town far to the south, filled with the sounds of birds and the fragrance of flowers, lived a beautiful young woman named Nan Xian. She was eighteen years old, the prime of her life, and everyone who saw her said that she had a noble air about her and possessed a beauty that was even more captivating than that of the mysterious races in the heavens.

Yet this outstanding woman had no magical abilities since birth. In this magical continent where strength is paramount, she was no different from those ephemeral flowers that could only bloom for a brief moment.

Nan Xian's beauty was spread throughout the continent by a poet who was traveling through the area. So, on the day she turned nineteen, the royal family living in the north issued an order to summon her to the palace to become a concubine.

The current king is over fifty years old. He is ugly, obese, and his loose skin is covered with wrinkles and spots. He always sprays a lot of perfume to cover up his pungent body odor.

But what's most unspeakable is his horrifying fetish...

Nan Xian was still young and full of life. How could she be willing to submit to such a person? So she tried to escape several times. However, the lives of her family members were in the hands of the army sent by the king. She could not bear to watch her family members be killed because of her. She was forced to board the carriage to that icy land, leaving behind a trail of heartbroken tears.

*

The carriage traveled for more than half a month, and the scenery along the way changed from lush and verdant jungles to barren sandy lands and bare old trees, with desolation as far as the eye could see.

"Whoa—"

The carriage, which was moving forward, suddenly stopped.

Nan Xian pulled herself out of her reverie, turned to look at Xiao Fu sitting beside her, and asked, "What happened?"

Xiao Fu was a maid sent by the king to serve and supervise her. She was only a teenager, thin and small, with sallow skin and a very introverted personality. When she sat in the corner, she was like a quiet little chick. Except when necessary, she rarely took the initiative to talk to Nan Xian.

Xiao Fu shook her head upon hearing this, then lifted the curtain and jumped off the carriage.

After a while, she climbed back up and said in a flat tone, "Ahead is the Secret Forest. The commander is considering whether to rest here for the night and continue our journey tomorrow morning."

The Secret Forest? This was the first time Nan Xian had heard of this name, and she couldn't help but wonder, "Is the Secret Forest a very dangerous place?"

Xiao Fu nodded, intending to continue pretending not to see anything, but when she met Nan Xian's expectant face, she pursed her lips and explained in a low voice, "Legend has it that demons who eat human flesh and drink human blood live in the secret forest. They are all exceptionally beautiful and skilled at seducing humans, but once they lure humans to their territory, they will rip out their hearts and eat them... Demons are inherently evil beings."

Nan Xian paused for a few seconds upon hearing this, then gently shook her head. She turned her gaze back to the car window and murmured, "I'd rather marry a devil than be locked in that magnificent cage."

Xiao Fu looked at her: "What did you say?"

Nan Xian forced a smile: "It's nothing. I just hope... I hope we have good luck."

Before long, the commander decided to continue forward and speed up their pace to cross the secret forest before nightfall.

However, things didn't go as planned. They unknowingly got lost, and the horses began to become restless and even out of control.

Amidst the chaos, a fearful voice rang out.

"A demon! It's a demon!"

What followed was a period of chaos and disorder.

Nan Xian, who was resting with her eyes closed, suddenly opened them and poked her head out of the carriage. When she saw the scene not far away, she was slightly stunned.

A young man was lying lazily on a high tree branch, the hem of his black robe hanging less than half a foot from the ground, swaying gently in the breeze.

His skin was sickly pale, but his appearance was the most outstanding among all the people Nan Xian had ever seen. His half-length black hair was slightly messy, and a pair of conspicuous black horns grew on his head, making it easy to recognize his identity at a glance.

Born from hell, the legendary evil race—the demons.

He slowly opened his eyes, his scarlet pupils glancing in this direction, sending chills down one's spine.

The commander-in-chief was a brave and fearless warrior. He was the first to raise his sword and charge forward, but he soon fell to the demon's suddenly extended claws.

Watching their leader die before their eyes, the other warriors were instantly enraged and charged forward with screams...

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew up, and the sweet, pungent smell of blood filled the entire forest. The blood on the ground pooled together and slowly formed a small river.

Xiao Fu had already fainted from fright, but Nan Xian was still hiding in the carriage, staring through the crack in the window at the unseeing heads and horrifying wounds.

She thought to herself, "They deserved to die. The souls of those girls who were tormented to death by you along the way would surely cheer if they saw this."

Also, what Xiao Fu said wasn't entirely correct. Demons don't rip out people's hearts, at least not the demon in front of her.
