The next morning.
Nan Xian went downstairs to throw out the trash, and out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly caught a glimpse of a small dark shadow flashing past the corner.
She paused, her hand holding the mask still, and blinked in confusion.
Why do I feel like I saw a... cat?
Is it someone's pet that ran away?
Many residents in the community keep pets, so she didn't take it to heart.
However, once she got upstairs and stepped out of the elevator, she saw a small black cat squatting at her door, tilting its head back as if looking at the house number.
Nan Xian stood there, somewhat surprised.
Hearing footsteps, the little black cat turned its head, blinked its beady green eyes twice, and raised its paw to approach her.
Nan Xian instinctively tightened her mask and backed away repeatedly.
She has a severe allergy to cat hair. When she was a child, she only sat on a sofa that a cat had lain on for a while, and that night she broke out in a rash all over her body and had to be hospitalized for several days on IV drips.
Since then, she has stayed far away from cats and always keeps allergy medication at home.
Seeing how nervous she was, the little black cat was taken aback, quickly stopped what it was doing, and then gently lifted one of its hind legs, looking at her pitifully.
"Meow—Meow—"
Noticing that its raised leg was trembling slightly and seemed to be injured, Nan Xian was at a loss for a few seconds. Then, she had a sudden idea. She put the plastic bag over her hand and crouched down to get closer.
"Mimi, come here, don't be afraid..."
The little black cat meowed happily and hopped over to her on three legs, gently nuzzling its head against her palm.
Nan Xian immediately softened.
"Oh dear, poor little thing..."

When Ding He went to Nan Xian's house to deliver something to her, she saw her "fully armed" squatting next to a cardboard box on the balcony, with her eyes, mouth, nose and hands completely covered.
"Sis, what are you doing?" She was a little confused.
"I found a cat this morning," Nan Xian waved to her, "Didn't you always want to have a cat? Come and see!"
"A cat?!" Ding He's eyes lit up instantly.
Inside the cardboard box, a small black cat lay on its side on a soft cloth. Its body was not much longer than a human's palm, and its eyes were covered with a cloudy blue film, making it look like it was just a month old.
Nan Xian was brushing its fur with a small comb. It was so comfortable that it squinted its eyes and purred softly, its two fluffy front paws kneading its paws, revealing its dark chocolate-colored paw pads.
"So cute—" Ding He was instantly charmed and exclaimed, cupping her face in her hands.
Nan Xian poked its little paw pads and said, "Right? If I weren't allergic, I would have kept it myself... So far, it seems to be very well-behaved as a cat. It lets you pet it, hug it, and kiss it. It went to the vet for a checkup, and it had a small cut on its left hind leg, but it's not a big problem. Apart from not licking its own fur, it has no other flaws. Do you want it?"
"Yes, yes, yes! Of course I want it!" Ding He nodded vigorously, then exclaimed in confusion, "Sister, what does 'Cat Virtue' mean?"
"Hmm..." Nan Xian coughed awkwardly, blurting out a popular phrase from 2022 without realizing it. "Women have their virtues, men have their virtues, and cats certainly have their virtues too!"
Ding He exclaimed "Oh!" as if suddenly realizing something, and before she could ask any further questions, Nan Xian gave her the seat.
The urge to pet the cat instantly took over, and she chuckled as she reached out her hand to the little black kitten, "Hehehe, little kitty—"
However, the next moment, the little black cat opened its eyes warily, suddenly slapped Ding He with its claws, made a "hoarse" sound in its throat, and stood on end with the fur on its back, glaring angrily at her.
Although the kitten's claws posed no threat to humans, Ding He was still startled.
She withdrew her hand in fear, "Sister, it seems like it doesn't like me."
Nan Xian was also a little puzzled—this little black cat has a good temper, and it was even well-behaved when applying medicine, so why did it get so excited when it saw Ding He?
She tried to soothe it, and the little black cat instantly became docile, even rubbing its head against her fingers.
"It might have been startled by your scent. Spending some more time with it should make it feel better."
Unfortunately, the little black cat and Ding He didn't get along. One second it was purring obediently in Nan Xian's care, but the moment Ding He approached, it immediately stood up and hissed, as if to say, "If you dare touch me, I'll bite you."
After a whole day of fussing, Ding He finally understood: this little guy didn't even look at her!
