Chapter 66 Who's Overthinking It?

"Yu Lin gave it to you?"

Upon hearing this, Nan Xian paused, sighed inwardly, and turned to face He Mingxiao.

He leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed, his posture exuding a casual laziness, and a slight smile played on his lips. This nonchalant yet seemingly suggestive look made Nan Xian quite angry.

She took great care of him in the morning, which not only made Ding He laugh at her, but also almost delayed her work. As a result, after he woke up, he didn't even say thank you, but came to question her in a sarcastic way.

Does he think he's someone special?

But none of these were the key reasons that annoyed her—

She was angry at herself for being so easily swayed by his few words in his sleep, even...

Nan Xian dared not think any further. She quickly stopped her thoughts, took a deep breath, and silently repeated "Don't be angry, don't be angry, anger gives the devil room to maneuver" several times before she could barely suppress her anger.

She gave a few forced laughs and said, "It seems that President He's illness has greatly improved, as he even has the energy to pry into other people's privacy."

Caught off guard by her sharp remark, He Mingxiao showed no anger whatsoever. He blinked, his tone innocent as if he truly had the simple purpose he claimed to have: "You misunderstood me. I just came to thank you. I happened to see that medal and was a little curious... I had a fever this morning and wasn't fully conscious. Thanks to you for taking care of me, otherwise I wouldn't have recovered so quickly."

Nan Xian pursed her lips, straightened her face, and put on a cold expression: "I would have done the same thing if anyone else were sick, so don't overthink it."

He Mingxiao couldn't help but chuckle softly. His voice was still slightly hoarse from his illness, gentle and magnetic, like an attraction of gravity. Nan Xian felt a tingling sensation in her ears, and her eyes couldn't help but flicker.

"What are you laughing at?" Perhaps feeling guilty, she unconsciously raised her voice.

bluff.

He Mingxiao stopped laughing, looked up at her, and his eyes held a hint of mockery.

"I laughed—who is the one overthinking this? I didn't have any particular thoughts about your actions, but you seem to have a lot of concerns?"

Nan Xian's expression changed slightly when he saw through her thoughts.

She frowned, then seemed to remember something and smiled with relief.

Why should I argue with him about these things? To be honest, he's been pestering me relentlessly, and I haven't been able to let go completely either.

What's the point of two people destined to be together but not to stay together arguing about whether they're thinking too much or not?

Thinking of this, she relaxed her expression and calmed her tone. "Mr. He, if you came to thank me, then I will accept your thanks. I have some things to attend to here, so please excuse me for not seeing you off."

After saying that, without waiting for He Mingxiao's reply, she turned around and continued packing her luggage.

Seeing her sudden change in attitude, He Mingxiao sighed helplessly—what he least wanted to see was her being distant and polite to him, as she would to any other casual acquaintance.

Knowing he couldn't keep up the banter, he straightened his expression and said, "Of course, it's not just about thanking you. Our agreement last night—"

Nan Xian interrupted him before he could finish speaking.

Last night's dream had indeed left her quite perplexed, and she suspected that there might be some truth to what He Mingxiao had said. But for her, the real He Mingxiao was far more troublesome than the black snake in her dream.

She has her own way of deciding what is important and what is not.

then--

“My dream last night was no different from any other dream I’ve had. What you’re saying…” she chuckled softly, “is probably just your own imagination.”

He Mingxiao was caught off guard by her refusal to admit it, leaving him both amused and exasperated.

But he wasn't completely unprepared.

"Then take a look, what is this?"

Upon hearing this, Nan Xian turned around and saw that he was holding a jade pendant in his palm that was exactly the same as her fox-shaped jade pendant. She was shocked.
