Chapter 82 Truth and Falsehood, Illusion and Reality

The moment their eyes met, Nan Xian only had time to catch a fleeting glimpse of that eerie smile behind the messy long hair before she heard a "buzz" in her head, like the tolling of a bell.

Immediately, everything before my eyes vanished.

"Nanxian, Nanxian, why are you sleeping here? You'll catch a cold!"

Nan Xian was woken up by a gentle force. She rubbed her eyes and her gaze gradually focused on her homeroom teacher's face.

"Ah... I don't know how I fell asleep." She scratched her face awkwardly and quickly closed the "scribbles" she had unconsciously left on her textbook while dozing off during evening self-study.

The homeroom teacher smiled kindly and said, "Although the college entrance exam is next month, you don't need to put so much pressure on yourself. Taking proper rest is more beneficial for your studies. Okay, hurry up and pack your things and go home. Remember to go to bed early tonight!"

"Okay, goodbye teacher!"

After watching her homeroom teacher leave, Nan Xian calmly packed up her books, turned off the classroom lights, and hummed a pop song as she walked down the stairs.

The hallway lights flickered. She looked up and muttered to herself in puzzlement, "Why are they broken again? Weren't they just fixed a few days ago?"

Naturally, no one answered her question.

Capital No. 1 High School is one of the top key high schools in the city. Its students, especially the seniors who are about to take the college entrance examination, are all top test-takers.

At this time of day, many classroom lights are still on, and students wearing headphones listening to English or reciting classical Chinese texts can be seen on the main campus avenue.

However, today, the entire school is empty, and there isn't a single person on the road.

Standing under the streetlight, Nan Xian turned to look at the pitch-black teaching building, and suddenly felt uneasy, with a sense of foreboding rising in her heart.

A gust of wind blew by, and the May weather made her shiver with cold.

Nan Xian pulled her school uniform jacket tighter and quickened her pace.

Once she stepped out of the school gate and saw several shops with their lights on on both sides of the street, she finally breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest to calm her racing heart.

Her home was only one block from the school, so her parents usually didn't need to pick her up after evening self-study. Nan Xian silently recited the key sentences of classical Chinese that the teacher had marked in class today, and turned into the residential area.

A sign reading "Under Repair" was placed in front of the elevator. She frowned and sighed helplessly.

After climbing eighteen floors, she was panting heavily. She took out her keys and opened the door, only to find the room completely dark.

"Dad, Mom?" she called tentatively, but received no response.

Going to bed so early?

Nan Xian touched the switch; her hand was wet. She paused slightly, then pressed the switch—

Blood, bright red blood.

The walls, floors, stair railings... were covered in blood.

Her hands were also covered in blood.

A chill ran up from the soles of her feet, and she felt as if she were immersed in ice water. For a moment, she lost consciousness.

She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She stumbled upstairs to the master bedroom and pushed open the door.

Her parents, one lying at the doorway with his hand outstretched, the other with half his body hanging over the edge of the bed, covered in blood, his eyes wide open in death.

The strong stench of blood assaulted her nostrils, causing her to tremble and her vision to blur.

Suddenly, a pair of hands came from behind and covered her mouth and nose.

Nan Xian was shocked and was about to struggle when she heard her brother Nan Yi's voice behind her.

"Shh—that person is downstairs, let's not disturb him."

Nan Xian's tears fell instantly. She bit her lower lip tightly, suppressing her grief-stricken sobs, and was stuffed into the wardrobe in the master bedroom by Nan Yi.

He knelt down, cupped her face in his hands, and said gently, "Don't be afraid, your brother is still here... Promise me, no matter what you hear later, don't believe it, and don't go out of the closet, okay?"

Nan Xian looked at the knife tucked into his waistband, covered her mouth, and nodded vigorously.

Nan Yi went downstairs.

She huddled in the closet, burying her head in her knees, crying silently, her fingernails digging into her palms without her feeling any pain.

I don't know how much time passed—

"Xiaoxian, where are you? I've taken care of that person, you can come out now!"

It's my brother's voice!

She looked up, about to respond, when she suddenly realized—how could her brother not know where she was hiding?

She suddenly realized something, her pupils contracted, and she froze on the spot.

The one outside... isn't my brother.
