Chapter 30 Confidentiality Agreement

When Nan Yi and Yao Mingke came to deliver dinner that evening, Nan Xian took the opportunity to stop the latter.

"When did you and my brother—" she glanced at the people waiting outside the door, "get together?"

Yao Mingke rarely showed a shy expression, and coughed lightly, looking rather embarrassed.

"After we added each other on WeChat that day, he kept chatting with me. He said he had never been in a relationship before, but wanted to try it out with me. I also had a good feeling about him, so... we got together."

Nan Xian raised an eyebrow. She had always thought that her brother treated relationships with the same rigor and caution as academics, and that it would take at least several months to half a year for him to go from having feelings for someone to confirming a relationship.

I never expected him to be such a blunt and witty person who talks trash in private.

Tsk tsk, you really can't judge a book by its cover.

After seeing her off, Nan Xian strolled around downstairs in the inpatient department, watched the old men play chess for a while, and then went upstairs with a few oranges that the old ladies had given her.

She was stunned as soon as she pushed open the ward door.

Three "uninvited guests" stood in front of her.

The woman in the lead was in her early thirties, wearing a white shirt and black trousers. She was tall, with smooth, shoulder-length silver hair, dark eyes, and red lips, her gaze seemingly able to see into a person's soul.

The two men following behind her were both wearing police uniforms.

Nan Xian felt a little relieved and asked, "You were looking for me?"

The male police officer on the left stepped forward and showed her his badge.

"Hello Ms. Nan, we are police officers from the Asahi Ward Public Security Bureau in Beijing. We are still investigating the murder of you and Mr. He. This is your phone. We apologize that the casing is completely damaged, but the SIM card is still intact, so you can continue to use it."

Nan Xian took the phone from the evidence bag, her gaze involuntarily shifting to the silver-haired woman.

"I understand, thank you. But who is this—?"

The male police officer glanced at the silver-haired woman with some hesitation.

The woman gave him a wink, and he immediately understood, leading the other person out of the ward.

"You should have guessed why I'm here." The silver-haired woman's voice was deep and magnetic. She gestured for Nan Xian to sit down in the chair next to her, then pulled up another chair and sat down opposite her.

Nan Xian sized her up. "You weren't wearing a police uniform, and you didn't introduce yourself, yet they treated you with great respect. I guess you're someone important—your work is related to some mysterious events, isn't it?"

The silver-haired woman paused slightly, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.

“You guessed right. My name is Situ Ting, and I am currently the deputy director of the China Special Affairs Office. I am here today because of what you experienced in those six days.”

She pulled out a stack of papers from somewhere and handed them over.

Nan Xian took it, and the first thing she saw was four big characters – “Confidentiality Agreement”.

She didn't rush to look through it, but instead looked up and met Situ Ting's gaze.

"I need to know what's going on."

Situ Ting narrowed her eyes. "There are some things you can't handle. I think it's best if you don't know too much."

Nan Xian shrugged. "Fine, then I don't have to sign the agreement. There's no law that says I have to do this, is there?"

She suddenly thought of something and smiled, "Or perhaps your place is a bit different, with different rules?"

Situ Ting laughed, "Of course not... Since you're so eager to know, I might as well tell you."

"The world we live in, or the world you see, is called the 'surface world,' and the opposite of the surface world is the 'inner world.'"

"The Otherworld is extremely dangerous. Simply put, it's where you live things you never want to encounter in your life."

"Normally, the surface world and the inner world are not interconnected, but sometimes special weather factors or energy fluctuations can weaken the barrier between them, creating a tiny passage."

"The storm a week ago opened up a passage, and you and Mr. He happened to enter it. However, you were lucky; you only ended up on a small island in the Otherworld without any special creatures. Otherwise, we really wouldn't know how to rescue you."

She shrugged and pointed at the agreement with her finger. "That's how it is. That's all I can say. Sign it quickly. I have a lot of tricky work to do."

After hearing her explanation, Nan Xian was deeply shocked, but even more so, she was filled with doubt.

Situ Ting says the world she sees is the surface world, so what about the ringing bells only she can hear, Gillian's eerie "warnings," and the black snakes that frequently appear in her dreams...?

What are these?

But when she saw Situ Ting's slightly urging gaze, she swallowed her question.

Her intuition told her that now was not the time to ask those questions.

After seeing the three off, Nan Xian sat there blankly for a while before suddenly remembering about her phone.

Just then, Ding He brought her a new mobile phone today. She put in the SIM card and downloaded her usual communication software.

As soon as I logged into WeChat, messages flooded in.

She replied to all the messages asking about her safety, and only after she finished did she realize that [.h] hadn't sent her any messages for a week.

Even if the two of them don't chat normally, he will send himself a few photos of Nan Nan.

Feeling puzzled, she took the initiative to ask:

[Xian Shi Kan Hua: Hi, have you been busy lately?]

After waiting for a long time, the other party still did not reply.

It wasn't until almost 11 p.m. that the [.h] file finally went online.

[.h: Sorry, I came to Singapore on a business trip a week ago and lost my phone as soon as I landed. I just found it today.]

Nan Xian quickly replied:

"It's okay, it's okay, you don't need to apologize! I've just run into some things these past few days..."
