Chapter 84 Su Xiaoyu is a fool
"No... Yuejiao, listen to me..." Su Xiaoyu followed closely behind and went out.
Inside the room, Du Tingting and the others looked completely bewildered.
"You just left like that?"
"They...have fallen out?"
Li Mo tossed his hair and said, "Hmph! Who cares about them? They're gone, perfect! Shopkeeper, hurry up and bring that 'Golden Jade Abundance' dish to our table."
Li Moxin was carefree and invited Du Tingting to sit back down at the table.
From an angle unseen by anyone, Lin Wan'er curled her lips into a cold smile, concealing her accomplishments and fame.
...
Meanwhile, in her anger, Shen Yuejiao ordered her servants to drive the carriage at breakneck speed, leaving Su Xiaoyu far behind in the blink of an eye.
On the carriage, she could no longer hold back, and large tears streamed down her face like beads from a broken string.
The feeling of being betrayed by your most trusted and best friend is like being stabbed in the chest—it's both painful and suffocating.
Su Xiaoyu chased after the carriage all the way, and finally arrived at the house in Huaihua Lane, only to have the vermilion gate slam shut in front of her with a "bang".
"Yuejiao! Open the door and let me explain..."
"Yuejiao!"
No matter how much she knocked and called out, only the old servant's curt voice came from inside: "Miss Shen has ordered that no one be opened the door. Miss Su, please leave!"
With a "whoosh".
A rumble of thunder sounded in the sky, followed by large raindrops that quickly turned into a torrential downpour.
Su Xiaoyu was soon soaked to the bone and shivering from the cold.
But she didn't leave. Instead, she squatted at the doorway, hugged her knees, and cried out to the door, "Yuejiao, please open the door! Let me explain, it's not what you think!"
Inside the house, Shen Yue sat pouting in the flower hall. A servant cautiously reported that Su Xiaoyu was outside the door, getting soaked in the rain and refusing to leave.
"Let her get soaked if she wants to! Let's see how long she can keep it up!"
Chen Yuejiao turned her head away in annoyance, preferring to ignore it.
After a while, she forced herself to calm down, but the rain showed no signs of letting up.
She strained her ears to listen to the sounds outside, only to hear the rain getting louder and louder, accompanied by booming thunder and blinding lightning.
"This idiot! Can't you see how hard it's raining?"
She could no longer sit still and paced back and forth in the flower hall. Her tone carried an anxiety she herself was unaware of.
Seeing her restless state, her personal maid whispered a word of advice:
"Miss, Little Fish looks quite pitiful. She's soaked to the bone. It's still chilly in early spring. What if she catches a cold?"
"How about... we let her come in and hide for a while?"
"Why should I!" Shen Yuejiao retorted defiantly. "It wasn't me who asked her to come. She lied to me first and made me suffer so much... Now she comes here to play the victim, who is she trying to impress!"
Although she said that, her eyes kept glancing towards the door. Her anger and resentment were gradually replaced by worry.
The rain continued, accompanied by strong winds that blew against the window frames, making the windows inside the house creak.
After a while, Shen Yuejiao heard no more shouts coming from outside and couldn't help but worry.
She even imagined Su Xiaoyu sitting in the rain with her knees drawn up, looking helpless and pitiful.
Finally, she stomped her foot in frustration, as if in a fit of pique, and ordered the maid, "Go! Bring that idiot in for me, don't let him die at the door. Also, quickly prepare a dry handkerchief and clothes, and also, prepare ginger soup."
The maid smiled, curtsied, and quickly went to make the arrangements.
When the maid opened the door, Su Xiaoyu had already fainted from the cold and was curled up in the corner, her face as pale as paper and her whole body soaked.
The servants hurriedly carried her into the house. When Shen Yuejiao saw her like this, she no longer cared about being angry. Her heart clenched immediately.
"What are you all standing there for? Hurry! Carry him inside! Be careful!"
The servants busied themselves, settling the person onto the bed in the guest room. Shen Yuejiao calmly gave instructions:
"Quick! Go and light two charcoal braziers! Change all the wet clothes, and dry your hair with a towel! Where's the ginger soup? Go and urge them to hurry up and get it ready!"
In an instant, the room was bustling with activity.
Shen Yuejiao personally took charge, carefully wiping her hair with a soft cloth, feeling both angry and heartbroken.
About half an hour later, the room finally warmed up, and Su Xiaoyu, who had drunk the ginger soup, broke out in a sweat and slowly woke up.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Shen Yuejiao sitting by her bedside, covering her face with her own hand.
Seeing that Xiaoyu had woken up, Shen Yuejiao acted as if she had been burned, immediately letting go of her hand and guiltily trying to get up.
His tone was harsh: "You're awake? If you're awake, hurry up and drink the ginger soup and leave."
He then got up to leave.
"Yuejiao..."
Su Xiaoyu's voice was weak, but she mustered all her strength to reach out and grab the hem of her skirt.
"Don't go...cough...let me explain..."
Shen Yuejiao was enraged by her weak yet stubborn appearance.
"Su Xiaoyu!" She turned around abruptly, her eyes reddening. "Are you stupid?! Didn't you see how hard it's raining outside? Couldn't you have found somewhere to hide first?"
"You did this on purpose, didn't you? You deliberately made yourself look like this so that Xinghe would feel sorry for you later, didn't you?"
"...No."
Su Xiaoyu shook her head urgently and explained earnestly and seriously, "Yuejiao...you have to believe me, I only consider him my cousin, a family member. I never thought about marrying him. That marriage was arranged by our elders years ago, and I...I only found out about it recently."
"I don't want to get married at all, and I especially don't want to marry a close relative..."
Shen Yuejiao remained skeptical.
"I know you like Cousin Xinghe, and I'm happy for you. I sincerely hope you two get together, so... I won't have to get married. And you can have your wish fulfilled. How could I conspire with you to deceive you?"
"In my heart, you are the first friend who has been so good to me and so sincere since I came to the capital. I cherish you so much, how could I lie to you... cough cough..."
Her voice was weak, but carried an undeniable seriousness.
Shen Yuejiao's anger dissipated considerably, but she still awkwardly turned her head away, her voice muffled.
"...Even if what you said is true, Xinghe-gege, she likes you."
"Yuejiao, you've made a mistake."
Su Xiaoyu shook her head, her voice firm, her eyes clear.
"My cousin Xinghe may have some feelings for me, but it's mostly because of our cousin relationship, plus the childhood filter. It's like... he's gotten used to my 'cousin' presence and feels it's only natural. It's not real romantic love."
Shen Yuejiao tilted her head, "Then what is true love between a man and a woman?"
“True affection, like your affection for your cousin, makes your heart race when he gets close, makes you want to offer him all the good things in the world, and makes you learn things you’re not good at for him. For example, you started learning martial arts when you were young, wasn’t it because your cousin liked it?”
"You might even secretly get jealous if someone else glances at him. Yuejiao, ask yourself, is that how you feel about your cousin Xinghe?"
Shen Yuejiao was taken aback by the question.
