Chapter 23
"Hmm." Wen Zhenni quickly glanced at Xi Miao, who was observing her expression with great interest, and felt her cheeks getting even hotter. "I'm coming to Beicheng with Miaomiao to shoot a jewelry set."
On the other end of the line, Ciheng paused in his unbuttoning of his shirt. He hurried to finish his work and drove back, only to find not only an empty house but also the owner himself gone.
He laughed. "So, you're planning on flying back tomorrow morning?"
After a pause, his tone suddenly changed. "Xi Miao has kidnapped you time and again. I don't mind talking to her father about it. I wonder if she's too idle and I can arrange for her to have a proper job."
Wen Zhenni was really scared of him. "I'll definitely be back in the evening, back to Xiangshan Road."
"Yeah." Another cold monosyllable.
Before she could say anything else, the phone was hung up neatly, leaving only a few busy tones.
Xi Miao shook his wine glass and smiled meaningfully, "What do you mean?"
Wen Zhenni looked helpless. "What else can I say? I need to talk to your father."
"God damn devil!" Xi Miao rolled his eyes and stabbed the plate angrily. "I must have said too many bad things about him, so he got the chance to target me today."
"Okay, don't be angry anymore." Wen Zhenni quickly calmed her down, "I'll go home and talk to him for you."
Xi Miao hummed: "That's more like it."
Having spent almost a whole day in Beicheng, Wen Zhenni didn't want to stay any longer. After dinner, she separated from Xi Miao and boarded the last flight back to Tianhai.
They agreed to be back before nightfall, but when the driver dropped her off at Xiangshan Road, it was already late at night.
The fingerprint lock was opened and the entrance sensor light came on. Wen Zhenni held her breath and stuck her head in. The neon lights outside the floor-to-ceiling window were picturesque, but the living room was pitch black.
Maybe they are all asleep.
She took off her high heels and carefully carried them into the shoe cabinet.
As my toes sank into the soft carpet, the floor lamp clicked on.
"Are you willing to come back?" A voice so low that it was difficult to discern the emotions sounded.
Wen Zhenni was so frightened that the shopping bag in her hand slipped to her feet. She held her chest and looked towards the floor lamp in shock.
Ci Heng sat calmly on the sofa, his fingertips resting on the dial of his wrist. "Well, I've made progress. It's not even midnight yet."
“…I haven’t slept yet.”
Wen Zhenni observed his expression and saw that he was not really angry. She put on a sweet smile and quickly went over to sit next to him.
"Hubby." She wrapped her arms around his waist, pressed her cheek against his shoulder, rubbed it, and said coquettishly with a thick nasal voice, "I'm so tired, come and hold me."
She is really good at giving in. As long as she acts coquettishly, no matter how hard his heart is, she can always soften it.
Ci Heng didn't move, letting her hold him. After a moment, he raised one hand, placed his palm on the back of her head, and rubbed the back of her neck with his fingertips. "What did you shoot today?"
"I didn't take any pictures." Wen Zhenni nuzzled his neck, hooked the tie around her knuckles, and twisted it halfway around. "The things are good, but unfortunately I don't particularly like anything."
Ciheng stroked her back, his breath brushing against the soft flesh beside her ear, "Are you sleepy?"
Wen Zhenni shook her head gently in his arms.
Ciheng pulled the tie out of her hand, suddenly placed his palm on her thigh, applied a little force, and picked her up with one hand.
The moment she was suspended in the air, Wen Zhenni felt dizzy and screamed, subconsciously supporting her hands on his strong shoulders, "What are you doing!"
Ciheng ignored her and strode towards the bathroom with her in his arms.
The next moment, she was held by the waist and carried onto the marble countertop, and the overturned bottles and jars were casually swept aside.
Wen Zhenni's waist hit the cold edge of the washbasin, and a chill ran up her tailbone, causing her to shudder slightly. "Not taking a shower?"
Ci Heng leaned forward and touched the tip of her nose, "Hand in your homework."
Wen Zhenni choked. How could he, who was so restrained and refined during the day, say anything in private?
"Of course you can." Wen Zhenni took the initiative to hold his hands and put them on her waist.
Her index finger tapped his chest muscle, and she spoke each word with a serious expression, "But this time, it's my turn to bully you."
Ci Heng narrowed his eyes, "Did Xi Miao teach you again?"
Wen Zhenni: "Can't I figure it out on my own?"
"Okay." His palm rubbed his waist, and the voice rolled in past his ear. "How do you want to take the initiative?"
He smiled and said nothing more. The only sound in the entire bathroom was the ticking of the second hand of his watch, which was terrifyingly clear.
He lowered his eyelids slightly and tugged his tie down two inches with his knuckles.
When unfastening the watch strap, he deliberately slowed down his movements, and the metal strap rubbed against his wrist bone, making a rustling sound that grated his heart.
"Or do you want me to demonstrate it?"
"I can do it!" Wen Zhenni held the tie in a huff, but her hands were shaking.
"Miss, that's not how it's interpreted."
A gentle tone approached, and the man held her fingers, "I'll teach you."
The same hands that taught her how to tie the Windsor knot when Yan'er got married now guided her step by step again, taking the neat knot apart.
"Do you understand?"
"I understand." Wen Zhenni's lips trembled as she finally unbuttoned her shirt.
The moment her fingertips sank into the grooves of the chest muscles, the man's heartbeat beat powerfully under her fingertips.
Ciheng raised his chin, and the hand moved upwards along the skin texture.
The diamond on the nail accidentally scratched the tense jaw and caused a trace of blood.
Ciheng let out a hiss.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it." Wen Zhenni retracted her fingers as if she had been electrocuted, and was eager to check his wound.
Ciheng held her increasingly messy hand, looking helpless, "Manicures should also be included in the regulated knives."
There was a soft look in his eyes. He lowered his head, and his nose rubbed against her curled eyelashes. His hot breath sprayed on Wen Zhenni's face.
His breathing was so close that it made her ears and heart beat fast.
However, when you look closely at the light red bloodstain next to the mandible, it actually has a kind of battle-damaged beauty.
"Still laughing!" Ci Heng held her hand and pressed it firmly on the table. "You are always testing the edge of murdering your own husband."
Where her wrist was restrained, the wedding ring left a red mark on her skin.
Wen Zhenni clutched her crumpled shirt and protested softly, "You don't keep your word."
"Why don't you keep your word?"
The man's eyes swept across her collarbone, his voice as if he had drunk some wine, his eyes slightly tipsy, "You blame me, your teacher, for not teaching you? Tell me."
Wen Zhenni's legs were held down, so she had no choice but to hook her arms around his neck. "You have so many twisted ideas..."
The ending sound was drowned between the close lips and teeth, and the fingertips with thin calluses grasped a vibrant life.
His back was pressed against the wall tiles. The shower head had been turned on at some point, and hot water rolled down his hair, soaking through his shirt and revealing the tense lines of his shoulder blades.
The glass was covered with a thin layer of mist, and Wen Zhenni's eyes also became misty.
...The one who said he would bully him ended up being the one being bullied.
When I open my eyes again, it's a new week.
She was a little reluctant to get out of bed because she had to go to work, but when she opened her eyes and saw the money transfer from the bastard on WeChat, she immediately revived and even accompanied Ciheng to work the early shift for the first time.
When she finished inspecting the president's office and returned to her workstation, other people had just arrived.
"Good morning."
Lucy yawned, and seeing Wen Zhenni's fingertips almost tapping out sparks, she gave her a thumbs-up in admiration. "Qianqian, you look so energetic. Don't you have any Monday syndrome?"
Wen Zhenni can read ten lines at a glance, and her work efficiency has improved visibly compared to when she first arrived.
"Work has to be done whether you do it early or late, so why not have some fun? When you're done, reward yourself with a cup of milk tea or a cake, so you'll have the motivation to keep working next time."
Today's red envelope was big enough, she was in a good mood and worked harder.
Lucy smiled and said, "If I were half as calm as you, I wouldn't be scolded by the director every other day."
While the two were chatting, Li Wei walked in with the director, holding a stack of folders.
The director clapped his hands and asked everyone to pause their work. "Although Mr. Zhao is in charge of the resort project, Mr. Ci will also follow up. Everyone, please be alert and verify every piece of data carefully."
"Now let's assign the tasks. Lucy, compile the purchase list, along with the data on project progress and budget execution, and prepare a briefing. President Ci will personally review it before 2 p.m. tomorrow."
"Qianqian, assist Zhuna in reviewing the contracts and reports submitted by various departments."
"Okay." Wen Zhenni took the document handed down by Li Wei.
Lucy flipped open her copy. "It's overflowing with information. It's been another busy week."
Extracting core indicators from massive amounts of information is indeed a process that will kill your brain cells.
After the director assigned the tasks, the sound of keyboards clacking could be heard in the president's office.
After finishing half a day's work, Wen Zhenni rubbed her sore lower back and took a cup to get some water from the teahouse.
Amid the sound of water from the water dispenser, she was replying to WeChat messages when suddenly Zhu Na's loud voice came from outside.
"Family, Mr. Jiang from Fang Sheng is here again."
Wen Zhenni's fingertips pressing on the phone suddenly paused, and then she pricked up her ears.
"Why is she here again!"
Others sighed, "The project has already started, why are you still here?"
"Don't forget the Landscape Lake Project. It was open for bidding in March, and Fang Sheng also won the bid, so she came along today to finalize the plan. And it's obvious that she's interested in our President Ci."
Someone turned on the shredder. Amidst the clacking sound, someone whispered, "It's best not to say anything without evidence. Besides, she's one of the project leaders, so there's nothing wrong with her coming here to coordinate the work."
"Yes, yes, stop talking, I heard someone coming."
The chatter of gossip suddenly stopped, as if staff from other departments had come to verify the information.
Wen Zhenni returned to her workstation with a cup of water and picked up the phone on the table. Just then, a notification sounded.
It was a WeChat message from Ciheng, asking her to go to the office for lunch together.
Wen Zhenni's lips curled up unconsciously, and she tapped her fingertips lightly as she quickly typed the following line of words: [Okay, husband, I'll be right there...]
After the message was sent successfully, my fingertips hovered over the page for a moment, then switched to the takeaway app and ordered a bouquet of flowers.
