Chapter 61

Chapter 61

"Yeah, I feel much better." Having been caught red-handed, Wen Zhenni looked away guiltily, her ears red as she climbed up from his chest. "Don't you have a meeting? You're still in the hospital. Is it too late?"

Ciheng stood up from the sofa and placed the back of his hand against her forehead. Her temperature was normal, no longer feverish.

He breathed a sigh of relief and headed for the bathroom. "The meeting's been postponed for an hour. I'll leave after you get the IV."

Wen Zhenni followed closely behind him, like a tail, very clingy.

Ciheng handed her a toothbrush filled with toothpaste: "The old lady wanted to come see you, but I refused. She said you should stay for a few days after you are discharged from the hospital."

Wen Zhenni nodded obediently: "Grandma is worried about me, so it's only right for me to go back."

While she was brushing her teeth, Ciheng quickly fixed her messy bun. After doing this, he said, "Dad will be here soon."

"Ah?" It means that she has to face her old father's nagging alone.

Wen Zhenni's shoulders slumped slightly, and she resigned herself to her fate, "Okay, I understand."

Lin Nuo came to deliver breakfast, Ciheng ate with her, and then the nurse came in to put on an IV drip.

Looking at the time, it was getting late, so Ciheng didn't stay any longer. He changed his clothes and went to the company.

Jinxiao came at noon, carrying a lunch box, and said she had personally made her a yam and pork rib soup.

But Wen Zhenni's appetite had not recovered and she could only eat soft yams.

"You have a small body. You don't get sick when you're busy, but you get sick when you're idle."

Jin Xiao sat by the bed, watching his daughter sip the soup, his voice filled with care and worry, "Luckily, there are many people at home who can take care of you. If you were alone... Dad would really be worried."

Although she was used to nagging him a few times, but considering that he had made the soup himself, Wen Zhenni let all the repetitive words go in one ear and out the other. She just nodded and said, "I know, Dad."

"It's really not a serious illness. It will be fine in two days. Don't worry, I can take care of myself."

Young people don't like to be nagged, so Jin Xiao stopped talking: "Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon, let's not go on any non-essential trips, and just go home and enjoy the festival."

She rarely went home during the holidays, and her brother was not around either, so she spent the Golden Festival like an empty-nest elderly person.

Wen Zhenni felt a little guilty: "I will definitely come back during the Mid-Autumn Festival and spend the holiday with you, okay?"

After an hour-long family-friendly conversation with her old father, she finally sent him away in a long voice, saying that she was sleepy and wanted to go to bed.

The hospital's confidentiality measures were extremely strict, and with prior notice, even though the news that Wen Zhenni and Ciheng were husband and wife was an open secret in the hospital, it was still kept secret from the outside world.

In order to reduce visits and avoid disturbing her recuperation, only a few relatives and friends knew about her hospitalization this time.

Because of the close work interactions, Qin Qing informed the team this morning. They arrived at the hospital that afternoon.

She had originally planned to go to the company today, but unexpectedly she fell ill and all her plans were disrupted.

Qin Qing reassured her, "There haven't been any major changes to my work schedule. The only new activity I've added to my schedule is a Gaozhu event. I'll take on subsequent performances depending on the situation. Just focus on recuperating."

Wen Zhenni counted on her fingers and said, "So the day after tomorrow will be the rehearsal and recording for the evening party."

This illness was quite worry-free, perfectly avoiding all her schedules. In other words, she would have to lie in the hospital bored until she was discharged.

"Has the time for joining the crew of "Celebrity" been set?" she asked.

Qin Qing was checking the messages on his phone and replied without even looking up, "It's almost there. Pre-production materials will be released at the end of September, and filming is expected to start in October. The exact date hasn't been finalized yet."

"It's going to take so long!" Wen Zhenni clutched her pillow and complained, "I'm lying in the hospital with a sore back and only my phone in my eyes. I'm so bored. Where's the script? There should be a script by now, right?"

She reached out to ask for the script, and Qin Qing looked up and smiled at her: "Sorry, I don't have it either."

"..." Wen Zhenni collapsed back onto the pillow with a dead heart.

Qin Qing couldn't help laughing. Just then, a phone call came in, so she got up and went to the corridor.

Chengzi seized the opportunity and came over to share gossip with her: "Sister, the list of guests for the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala has been announced, and Yu Lanfei has also been invited."

Afraid Qin Qing would overhear, she glanced at the door and whispered, "Her drama, which is currently airing, has a lot of money invested in it, but the viewership is still stagnant. Now her team is desperate, sending out press releases every day to try to attract traffic. If anyone gets caught up in her, they won't be able to get rid of her anytime soon."

Wen Zhenni took the small piece of apple that Chengzi handed her and nodded: "My second uncle is willing to spend money on this daughter he adopted halfway."

Even though he was her uncle, she couldn't control his family affairs. Besides, she always had an inexplicable aversion to Yu Lanfei.

Seeing that she wasn't interested, Chengzi stopped talking. After a while of chatting about the latest happenings in the entertainment industry, Qin Qing returned from her phone call.

Qin Qing had something else to deal with, so he hurriedly said a few words and called Chengzi back.

After everyone left, the ward became deserted again. Wen Zhenni could only chat with the servant who was guarding her. When she got tired of chatting, she would lie down and check Weibo to pass the time.

Xi Miao video-called her and saw her lying sickly on the bed, her eyes wide open: "What's going on, my dear! I haven't seen you for a night, and why are you wearing hospital clothes?"

"In the hospital..." Wen Zhenni briefly explained the whole process and sighed at the end, "That's it."

"Fuck!" Xi Miao cursed. "That hotpot restaurant must be unhygienic and have ingredients that are problematic. I'm going to file complaints against it until it goes bankrupt tomorrow."

She jumped off her K-size bed, put on her clothes, and rushed downstairs. "Wait for me, I'll come to see you soon."

Xi Miao came as she said she would. Wen Zhenni quickly stopped her: "I'll sleep after the IV drip. If you come, we'll have to chat for a long time and it will disturb my rest."

"That's true." Xi Miao listened to the advice and stopped halfway, sitting down on the sofa in the living room. "Mingxia is on a business trip, and I haven't had time to tell her yet."

"It's just a minor problem, don't tell her about it."

Wen Zhenni rubbed her aching forehead, her voice full of fatigue, "I'm just looking forward to being discharged from the hospital soon. I can't stay here for even a day."

"Why, are you worried about missing your anniversary and not being able to spend time together as a couple?" Xi Miao teased, then asked, "How are you going to celebrate? Have you thought about it yet?"

Wen Zhenni: "I haven't asked him yet."

"Then ask." Xi Miao laughed slyly, "Next time we meet, I'll bring you a surprise."

Wen Zhenni glared at her: "You think about that all day long."

Xi Miao didn't think there was a problem: "My good sisters' happiness is very important, of course I care about it."

Wen Zhenni couldn't argue with her, so she simply stopped talking: "I need to rest now. I won't talk to you anymore. Bye!"

If we continue the conversation, she might lead us astray and bring us to topics that are not suitable for children.

She hung up the video, threw the phone aside, covered herself with the quilt and went to sleep.

Since Xi Miao couldn't come in person, they still ordered takeout and sent her flowers and a fruit basket.

Wen Zhenni's appetite for dinner was average, and she only ate a small bowl of steamed egg custard.

The servant watched over her until she had dinner, finished the IV drip, and helped her wash up.

Wen Zhenni went to bed early and didn't know what time Ciheng came. When she opened her eyes again, a figure opposite her was getting dressed with his back to her.

The room was dark, a faint morning light filtering through the gaps in the curtains, outlining the contours of his upper body. His muscular back stretched as he dressed, rising and falling, bulging toward the center. The smooth lines of his muscles slid and merged into his custom-made shirt.

Wen Zhenni even held her breath unconsciously, for fear of making any uncivilized noise. She silently bit the quilt and swallowed her saliva.

Ciheng was buttoning her shirt when she turned around and caught someone peeping: "What are you looking at? You're not even moving your eyes."

The deep voice, combined with the hazy image just now, made Wen Zhenni blurt out, "Sexy."

The man's movements suddenly stopped, his eyebrows slightly raised: "What?"

Wen Zhenni reacted and her cheeks flushed: "No, I didn't say anything."

She tried to get away with it, but her voice faded away. Anyone who heard it would think something was up.

Meeting his scrutinizing gaze, Wen Zhenni felt even more guilty, and hurriedly changed the subject: "You, you're going to work so early? Actually, you don't have to come all this way, they're taking care of you here."

Ciheng murmured, not saying "yes" or "no." His dark, deep eyes simply stared at her as he slowly and methodically fastened the last mother-of-pearl button.

As he raised his hand to tie his tie, he suddenly asked, "Will it?"

Wen Zhenni looked at the tie hanging around his neck, immediately understood, and got off the bed.

She couldn't reach it, so she tugged at her tie. Ciheng leaned over and smelled a faint scent of disinfectant on her.

With the hands-on teaching last time, Wen Zhenni was much more skilled at tying a tie this time. Her fingertips flexibly moved the tie in several times, wrapping it around and tightening it.

She pushed the Windsor knot she had tied toward her collar, her eyes scanning the Adam's apple that slid up and down. Under the restraint of her shirt, it exuded an indescribable tension that made the tips of her ears burn.

"Done." She released her hand and smoothed down the collar. "Isn't it good?"

"Yeah, that's a lot of progress." Ci Heng glanced down, adjusting the tightness of his fingers, and asked casually, "Where do you want to go on your anniversary?"

The topic came up too abruptly. Wen Zhenni was not prepared at all and said casually, "Xi Miao said there are fireflies in the mountains this season. Why don't we go to the villa on the top of the mountain?"

"Okay, I'll ask someone to prepare it."

He had no objections and agreed directly. He raised his hand and patted her head, saying gently, "I'll try to take you home early in the evening."

"Ah? Can I be discharged from the hospital now?"

Wen Zhenni was overwhelmed by the surprise. She jumped up, hugged his neck, and kissed him on the face excitedly: "Husband, I love you so much. You are the god in my heart."

The man whose neck was buried was breathing slightly and smiled helplessly.

Wen Zhenni stayed in the hospital for two days, feeling bored and listless. Finally, it was evening and Ciheng took her back to Zhangyuan.

The troublemaker Xie Xincheng has started school and has been taken home by his parents. The house is much quieter now. In the evening, only the old lady and Ci Yu are there, and the four of them have dinner together.

During the meal, the old lady's words were filled with distress and dissatisfaction. "Ni Ni has always been fine. No matter how hard she worked, she never had any health problems. She's only lived with you for a few months... Tell me the truth, was it you who brought people to feed her all that messed up food?"

Wen Zhenni glanced at Ciheng who was taking the blame, and defended him guiltily, "Grandma, he didn't actually..." It was really not him who ate the mess.

Even Ci Yu felt that his brother was being unfairly blamed. He wanted to laugh, but was afraid of getting into trouble, so he held it in and diligently ate the rice in his bowl.

Ciheng had expected the old lady to behave like this, but fortunately he was used to it. He took the blame without changing his expression: "Yes, it's all my fault."

The old lady continued, "That's good to know. We'll find an expert to look at the feng shui someday. Who knows if there's anything wrong. Especially since you just returned home."

How did we end up talking about science?

Ciheng's eyes twitched. "Old lady, I dug the Yellow River's floodgates, and I pierced the sky with rainstorms. Do you believe it?"

Grandma Ci slapped him on the arm: "You're such a chatterbox."

Ciheng's shoulders were all muscles, so it didn't hurt when he was hit. He couldn't help laughing.

"Still laughing." Grandma Ci glared at him. When she turned to look at Wen Zhenni, her tone was full of love, "Be good, just stay at home for a few more days."

Wen Zhenni responded obediently: "Yes, okay."

The old lady was afraid that she would be tired, so she didn't allow her to stay up late and sent the young couple upstairs to rest before ten o'clock.

Wen Zhenni's excitement had not yet subsided, and she rolled around on the bed like a happy puppy. When Ciheng lifted the quilt and lay down, she immediately rolled into his arms and sniffed him all over.

The steam from the bath made the shower gel smell strong and delicious. Wen Zhenni was distractedly poking at the buttons of his pajamas, her voice becoming sticky, "Hubby, I want..."

"You don't want to. Forget it." Ciheng held her neck and refused calmly and decisively, "Sleep well."

Wen Zhenni muttered a muffled "Oh" in his arms. When her wish failed, she took his hand away, rolled over to her side, and wrapped herself in the quilt.

Ci Heng looked at the large space that had suddenly been left empty in the middle and was stunned for once. "It really is... a betrayal."

Wen Zhenni was just beginning to drift off to sleep when she felt an arm come across and pull her back into his embrace. She giggled secretly, but without resisting, she leaned in, her fingertips finding their way under the hem of his pajamas. Once she found what she'd hoped for, she quickly fell asleep.
