Chapter 69
The birthday banquet was held at the Wen family's winery. Many guests had come to celebrate the birthday. From the morning on, luxury cars had been pouring into the winery. Zhong Xue's pregnancy was a hindrance, so only Wen Zheng and the elders stood at the main hall door, welcoming the guests.
Ciheng presented a gift on behalf of the Ci family, which Wen Zheng accepted. Wen Yan asked about Wen Zhenni's recovery and thoughtfully suggested, "It's crowded and noisy downstairs. You can go sit in the lounge upstairs. Zhong Xue is there too, so she'd be a good choice to chat with you for a while."
"Thank you, Brother Wen," Wen Zhenni said, holding Ciheng's arm. "I'd better wait for Xi Miao to come, and then we can go up to see Sister Xue together."
After a few words, Wen Zheng called a servant to lead the way and took the couple to the reception room.
The reception room was bustling with activity, with many guests coming and going, exchanging pleasantries. The vast hall was filled with soothing music and conversation.
As soon as Ciheng appeared, he was recognized by several familiar peers and invited to join the conversation.
Wen Zhenni was unable to join in the conversation, so she asked a passing waiter for a glass of red wine.
But just as it reached her lips, Ciheng snatched it away without a trace: "You can't drink."
She stopped her hand mid-motion and stared at him.
There was resentment in her eyes, and she couldn't help but want to accuse him of tyranny. But because there were others present, she refrained from speaking.
Ciheng pretended not to see her and introduced her to his friend, "This is my wife, Wen Zhenni."
The other party immediately understood and extended his hand towards her with a smile: "I have long admired you, Miss Wen. I have seen your work on TV. I didn't expect that you and President Ci were actually a couple."
"Thank you for your support." Wen Zhenni shook the other person's fingertips generously. "I hope you can keep my relationship with Ciheng a secret for me."
People in the circle see each other all the time, and most of them know a little bit of each other's secrets. They know what to say and what not to say.
The other party was also an understanding person and nodded immediately: "Of course, Miss Wen, don't worry."
After a few pleasantries, the friend invited Ciheng to go to the other side to chat with acquaintances in the business district.
Ci Heng turned his head and whispered to Wen Zhenni, "There are snacks on the table over there. You can try some to fill your stomach."
His gaze paused on her face for a moment, and he added, "Don't eat too much."
Wen Zhenni nodded obediently on the surface, and as soon as the others walked away, she went straight to the area where desserts and drinks were placed.
This was a rare opportunity, how could she just have a taste?
Start with a piece of fragrant matcha mousse as a base, and then have a light taste of the strawberry cake.
As soon as Xi Miao arrived, he saw Wen Zhenni eating non-stop and jokingly said, "You're so strong-willed despite your disability. You came all the way here just for this dessert?"
"It's a rare opportunity." Wen Zhenni scooped a spoonful of ice cream and fed it to her, successfully blocking her mouth.
After the two of them shared a small box of ice cream and chatted for a few words, Xi Miao was waved away by her mother.
Ci Heng came over after Xi Miao left. Looking at the cream on her lips, she pointed and asked, "Is it that delicious?"
Wen Zhenni stuck out the tip of her tongue, licked off the cream, and raised the cake in her hand to his mouth: "This is really delicious, you try it."
The man leaned back, a look of refusal on his face: "It's too sweet, I won't eat it."
"Try it, just a small bite." Wen Zhenni insisted that he try it, and the cake touched his lips, "Open your mouth."
He really couldn't persuade her, so he finally lowered his head slightly, took her hand, and put the slightly cool cake into his mouth.
The sour and sweet taste spreads between the lips and teeth. Although it tastes good, the high sugar content affects calcium absorption and is not conducive to bone recovery.
Ci Heng narrowed his eyes and looked at her: "Did you eat a lot while I was away?"
"No." Wen Zhenni still held half a cake in her hand and took a big bite guiltily, "...I only ate half of it."
Ciheng naturally didn't believe it, so he took the uneaten cake from her hand, finished it in a few bites, then took her hand and followed the guests into the banquet hall.
After lunch, Wen Zheng and his wife invited some friends to play cards and chat in their room. A moment later, someone arrived, saying that the banker's uncle had arrived and asked Ciheng to come upstairs for a chat.
"Okay." Ciheng nodded slightly, stood up and followed the man upstairs.
"What's the big deal? Uncle Zhuang is here?" Xi Miao was shocked.
Feng Zhen pointed his index finger upward and whispered, "A new batch of documents has just arrived, and there's been quite a stir in the internal anti-corruption movement. I think you've heard about this, right?"
Xi Miao didn't understand: "What does this have to do with Ciheng?"
"The banker only asks about important matters. If they ask Brother Heng to go, there must be a connection."
Feng Zhen was well-informed, but he also knew that some things should not be said too much. He simply turned around and said to Wen Zhenni, "Zhenni can go back and ask, but as for the others, don't ask around. It's better to have less trouble than more."
Wen Zhenni was completely bewildered when her name was mentioned. She didn't understand a single word Feng Zhen was talking about. But one thing was certain: Ciheng definitely knew the truth.
It would be a lie to say I wasn't curious.
On the way back in the car, because the driver was present, she refrained from asking.
After arriving home, Wen Zhenni mentioned this matter: "What did your uncle want to talk to you about?"
Ci Heng pondered for a long moment and only gave a vague direction: "It's related to a certain artist in the entertainment industry, but it has little to do with you. You haven't been in the group recently, so you won't run into him. It doesn't matter if you don't know."
He revealed that his uncle asked him for help with something, but asked that the specific details be kept confidential and he could not say more.
"...Okay." Wen Zhenni couldn't ask anything else, so she didn't press the issue. Since her uncle had requested confidentiality, she naturally knew her limits.
But she had already agreed to participate in the variety show with Tang Yu, and she couldn't help but hesitate. Should she tell him now, or wait until everything was finalized?
Wen Zhenni suddenly became conflicted. The more she hesitated, the more uncertain she felt. So she called Qin Qing to confirm the progress.
Qin Qing only said that she was in contact with Tang Yu's company and the program team, and asked her to wait patiently for notification.
The itinerary was not finalized, and Wen Zhenni felt more nervous than ever before. Her eyelids kept twitching, and this happened for several days in a row.
Feeling bored at home, she asked Xi Miao and a few others to come out, and coaxed them into a fried skewers restaurant.
As a result, before I could even sit down and eat the fried skewers, Ciheng took me out of the store and stuffed me into the back seat of the car.
"If you're really bored, come and work with me at the company starting tomorrow."
The car merged smoothly into the traffic flow. His tone sounded like a suggestion, but it left no room for negotiation.
Wen Zhenni felt a headache when she heard about going to the company. She raised her hand weakly and said, "President Ci, I need to have a follow-up check tomorrow."
The red light came on. He put one hand on the steering wheel, glanced at her in the rearview mirror, and said lightly: "Then after the review, come with me to the company."
Wen Zhenni's face fell and she muttered softly, "How can you be so stubborn?"
The corners of his lips rose: "During the healing period, eat less oil and salt. My diet is as light as yours, and I really don't eat oil or salt."
"..." Wen Zhenni was speechless.
The car drove into the tree-lined avenue of Zijin Bay and stopped in front of the villa. He got out and walked around to the back, opened the door and held out his hand to her: "Get out."
Wen Zhenni was still upset that she hadn't had a bite of the fried skewers, so she deliberately dawdled. But he bent over and unbuckled her seatbelt.
"Do you want me to carry you down?" The night light fell on his relaxed brows, softening the impetuousness and hostility brought by the mall.
Wen Zhenni turned her face away, silent. The man cupped her cheek in his palm, gently turned her face back, and without a word, planted a kiss on her lips.
"Well, you are attacking..." Wen Zhenni shouted, but the remaining sound was completely swallowed up.
At first it was just a gentle exploration, as if tracing the shape of lips, but as the palm of his hand on the back of her neck tightened, the kiss gradually deepened, becoming hot and long.
Wen Zhenni's tense body softened, and she tightened her fingers around his collar, pulling the mother-of-pearl buttons askew to the side, revealing his firm chest.
Until he stepped back a little, resting his forehead against hers, and said in a low voice: "No?"
The air in the narrow back seat was already thin, and Wen Zhenni was kissed to the point of suffocation. She grabbed his shirt until it became messy and wrinkled, and nodded dizzily.
The man smiled triumphantly and continued to seduce her: "Then come with me to the company tomorrow?"
Wen Zhenni's mind was blank, and she just nodded instinctively: "Yeah."
She seemed to be bewitched again.
It was not until I returned to the room that I realized that I had been fooled by him and had sold myself out.
Just when she was feeling frustrated, Xi Miao called her and asked, "Baby, how are you? Are you okay?"
"Something's up, something's up." Wen Zhenni slumped weakly onto the sofa, "Let me go to work with him tomorrow."
Xi Miao on the other end laughed out loud, "That's really tragic. What's wrong with you? You used to be so smart, but now he's completely subdued by you."
Wen Zhenni pouted softly into the microphone, trying to save face: "This is called fully respecting my partner's opinion, okay!"
However, Xi Miao felt that he should bear the main responsibility for taking the injured to eat fried skewers tonight: "It's also my fault. I forgot to remind them not to post updates. You know, those people love to post on WeChat Moments... I was really unlucky to be caught red-handed by that fox Ciheng."
She tried to make amends for herself and comforted Wen Zhenni: "Just bear with it for another month or so. When you're free, we'll cook hot pot in the studio."
Wen Zhenni looked at the ceiling and rolled her eyes: "You might as well stop comforting me."
Xi Miao chuckled and inquired slyly, "Seriously, seeing how aggressive he was... after you went back, didn't you stir-fry it?"
Wen Zhenni could tell she was teasing him, her cheeks flushed slightly, and she muttered softly, "He insists on sleeping in separate beds, and even though I want to, I can't do anything about it."
"Oh, Master Ci is really concerned about your health."
After Xi Miao finished joking, his tone became mysterious: "To compensate you, how about giving you some good things for adults?"
"What is that?" Wen Zhenni had a bad feeling.
Xi Miao must be operating his phone. There was silence on the other end for a few seconds, and then an urging voice came from the receiver: "Baby, check WeChat."
Wen Zhenni hesitated and opened the green software. A red dot appeared on Xi Miao's avatar, indicating that the other party had shared a txt file with her.
Before clicking it, Wen Zhenni was skeptical: "Is this a legitimate document? Is it a virus?"
"These are all the best things I've kept in my closet, and I'm sharing them with you now. I guarantee they'll be genuine. Take a look and you'll understand."
Xi Miao finished his speech excitedly, and then quickly added a closing remark: "I won't tell you anymore, just read it yourself, I'm hanging up."
The phone beeped and hung up smoothly.
Wen Zhenni stared at the txt file in the dialog box, clicked on it, and was stunned for three seconds.
By the time she saw what it was, it was too late. Her ears flushed red, and she frantically clicked exit several times, closing the app in a very embarrassed manner.
...Can she call the police? Someone is causing trouble here!
