Chapter 17

Chapter 17

"This Chen Lanjun is really outrageous!"

As soon as they entered the door of the staff room, the math teacher complained to Chen Lanjun's homeroom teacher, Teacher Qin.

"It's been two or three years, and I've never seen a student who disrespects teachers so much. I was teaching, but she was doing her own thing! What does this mean? I can't teach her, right? If she was really capable, she would have been admitted to university last year. Why would she continue to repeat her studies here? That means she has no talent."

This string of words came down like pouring beans, leaving Teacher Qin confused.

She picked up the old-fashioned thermos beside her and poured some hot water into the math teacher's enamel cup. She said, "Hey, calm down. What's going on? If Chen Lanjun did something wrong, I'll tell her when the time comes."

"Then you have to talk to her and educate this child." The math teacher took a sip of tea. Unexpectedly, he was scalded by the hot water and was shocked.

He puffed and puffed as he said, "It's fine if she looks down on me. But if she really doesn't study according to the right method, she will be the one who suffers. This is already the second year for this child to take the college entrance examination, and there can't be any mistakes."

"Don't worry, I will definitely educate him well."

After Teacher Qin's repeated assurances, the math teacher finally calmed down and buried his head in the students' homework. He shook a red pen with not much ink on it over and over again, squeezing out a few shallow marks, and continued to correct the papers at his desk.

Teacher Qin also didn't understand what was going on with Chen Lanjun.

During evening self-study, she walked outside the classroom and first looked inside through the glass.

Amid the crackling sound of electric current from the incandescent light bulb, Chen Lanjun was reading the textbook intently. She looked well-behaved and studious, without any trace of the arrogance and domineering that the math teacher described.

It's really strange, Teacher Qin thought.

She straightened her face and walked into the classroom with a serious expression. The few students who were looking around and slacking off immediately sat up straight when they saw her face.

Even a diligent and studious student like Cao Hongyao raised her eyes and looked at her.

But Chen Lanjun never looked up, or rather, she did not notice Teacher Qin's arrival at all. She was still concentrating on solving a math problem in the blank corner of an old newspaper.

Teacher Qin stood in front of Chen Lanjun's seat, tilted her head and watched silently for a while. This little girl's calculation method seemed different from what the math teacher taught now. It felt more like a quick calculation. Because some steps were omitted, it looked very simple, but I didn't know if the answer was correct. This was probably what the math teacher said, "Do it yourself."

Seeing that Chen Lanjun didn't notice her arrival, Teacher Qin knocked on the desk twice and spoke in a low voice.

"Come out with me for a moment."

Chen Lanjun stood up and followed Teacher Qin to the corridor, already knowing what she was being called out for.

I'm afraid he's here to call for punishment.

As expected, Teacher Qin started by saying, "The math teacher came to me today to report a situation. Lanjun, your attitude in class doesn't seem to be very good. If you have any difficulties, you can tell me. Or do you want to explain it?"

Chen Lanjun was silent for a while.

To be honest, she couldn't think of a good way to explain it. Should she just say, "I want to experiment with a new learning method that I know of. If it works well, I'll use myself as an advertisement and then sell supplementary teaching materials?"

It would be a miracle if Teacher Qin believed it.

To be honest, Chen Lanjun does not really believe in the teaching level of current teachers. This is not to say that the teachers themselves deliberately teach knowledge randomly and do not prepare lessons well. It is really limited by objective conditions and reasons.

Although she was very busy at work before her rebirth, Chen Lanjun never stopped learning. When she was still a working girl, she went to night school every night. Later, a university opened a special training course to take care of workers. She often went to study, and during this period she met a university professor who appreciated her very much and taught her many practical learning methods.

The university professor once told her that when the college entrance examination was just resumed, teachers were actually very distressed and did not know how to teach students to prepare for the exam. Except for a few schools with a strong foundation, most schools and teachers were groping forward and trying out teaching methods. Looking back now, I realize that the college entrance examination questions in the first two years were actually relatively simple.

Chen Lanjun failed the college entrance examination and could not forget the test paper of that year. She took the test paper of that year to ask for advice. The university professor analyzed the test paper of that year from a new perspective. The solution was very novel. Chen Lanjun felt suddenly enlightened. Later, she did the college entrance examination papers for two consecutive years and found that they were indeed very useful. At that time, she just thought that she had learned some idle knowledge. But now, it can come in handy.

What is the appropriate answer? Chen Lanjun thought for a moment and said:

"I went to Suicheng during the summer vacation. There, I was lucky enough to meet a university professor. He was very capable and gave me a lot of guidance and taught me some new ways of solving problems. I found them very useful, so I am trying to practice them now."

She emphasized: "I really have no intention of disrespecting the math teacher, and I am also very quiet during class, I don't talk or whisper with my classmates."

Teacher Qin frowned and nodded slowly: "That being said, are you sure that your new method is really reliable? This is your own grade and your own future. This is what the math teacher and I are worried about."

Chen Lanjun said firmly: "I believe this method is useful."

"What if it doesn't work? Who will be responsible? I think it's safer for you to follow the teacher's progress and study hard."

"I'm responsible."

Her three decisive words choked Teacher Qin to the point where he was speechless.

Chen Lanjun certainly didn't want to strain her relationship with the teachers. If she really wanted to do something later, she would have to rely on the teachers for help, so she quickly said, "How about this, teacher? The next exam is very close. During this period, let me try this method. Is it effective? We'll see by the scores. If it really proves that this method is useless to me, then I promise. I will definitely listen to the teacher's lectures honestly from now on. Okay?"

Having said this, Teacher Qin had nothing more to say. He waved his hand and asked Chen Lanjun to go in and continue studying.

The bell rang, and the evening study ended.

The tired students went back to the dormitory together.

Chen Lanjun did not move, and continued to stay in her seat reading a book until the classmate on duty urged her, saying, "It's time to lock the door."

She just picked up two books and walked out.

The direction of the footsteps was not the dormitory building, but the cafeteria.

Due to power shortage, students will only be given one hour to clean up in the dormitory building before the power is cut off.

Chen Lanjun hopes to have more time to read. She knows a little secret: there is a light in front of a small door on the side of the cafeteria. It will be on for two hours until late at night.

This was when there was a power outage during evening study on the first day of school, and she was wandering around the campus and ran into Chen Zhisheng and noticed him.

It was already an autumn night, and the wind was a little chilly. The leaves rustled, and occasionally a few fell. The lights in the dark night attracted unknown insects, and stars circled around the lights.

The light shone on the floor, creating a small orange shadow.

Chen Lanjun stood in the center of the orange, holding a book and continuing to study.

Because I was so absorbed in watching, I didn't even notice when a mosquito bit my arm. It wasn't until I started to feel itchy that I scratched it.

It was probably a mosquito. Its bite was very itchy. She would take a few steps or stamp her feet from time to time, but she would not put down the book in her hand.

"Sister, you are still studying hard even at this late hour."

Chen Lanjun looked up and saw an uncle from the cafeteria, holding a light yellow enamel bowl with a blue rim.

Before this, Chen Lanjun had never spoken to him, so she just responded faintly.

"Ah, yes."

"No wonder your father is so happy to have a good girl like you!" The uncle in the cafeteria grinned. As he spoke, he handed over the enamel bowl in his hand, "Here, I made the sweet potato soup myself. Try some."

"How can this be so embarrassing?"

"How can you have the energy to study if you don't eat? I've already cooked."

Seeing that Chen Lanjun still refused to take it, the uncle in the cafeteria said, "Okay, I'll tell you the truth. Your father Chen Zhisheng gave me two dollars. He said that if he was free, he would make you something to eat. So, don't be polite with me."

Chen Lanjun reacted immediately. Isn't the room rate of the guesthouse exactly two yuan?

She was slightly startled and took the bowl of sweet potato soup.

Compared with the sweet potato soup sold in teahouses and hotels, this bowl of sweet potato soup has coarse fiber, less sugar and no sweetness.

But she felt that she would remember this feeling for a long time.
