Chapter 30

Chapter 30

"Why is your grandma taking medicine? It's all your fault!"

Ajing's father's roar echoed in the hospital corridor.

Originally, Ajing's grandmother thought that Ajing had gone to school. Although she was suffering from illness, the old lady was still very happy.

Until two days ago, the family that was planning to get married came to the house and made a lot of noise, which startled the old lady who was always hard of hearing. They seemed to be saying "A Jing".

Grandma Ajing struggled to get up, held on to the wall and walked outside step by step to see what was happening.

"What's wrong with Ajing?" she asked.

The man turned around and sneered, "Your granddaughter is a whore! She was engaged, but she ran away without a second thought. I don't know which wild man she slept with!"

"Nonsense!" Ajing's grandmother said angrily, "Don't talk nonsense about our Ajing!"

"Why, you dare to do it but you are afraid of people talking about it?"

After a lot of noise, these plague gods were finally sent away.

Grandma Ajing angrily questioned her son: "What is going on?"

"You don't want money for treatment? Is it possible that money will rain from the sky?" Ah Jing's father glared, "What can I do? I finally found a good home for her, but she ran away! I'll break her legs when I get back!"

These words were like a bolt from the blue, freezing Grandma Ajing in her tracks.

Her beloved grandson is going to get married in order to pay for her medical treatment.

After tossing and turning for two days and two nights, Grandma Ajing finally made up her mind.

She couldn't be a burden to that child.

She thought of something, something that could be called a precedent. Some rural women, perhaps after being beaten by their husbands, perhaps being gossiped by villagers, perhaps being despised by their sons for not being able to work and eating for free, in short, like leaves leaving leaves, died quietly at dusk or in the middle of the night.

Ajing's grandmother drank pesticide twice. The first time, she was determined to bring the pesticide bottle to her mouth. The pungent smell made her feel nauseous. The taste was too strong and she couldn't drink it.

What should I do?

For the first time in his life, the old man wasted a few cents and bought some rice wine.

The rice wine brewed by the farmers is sweet and refreshing.

So this is what wine tastes like, Ajing’s grandmother thought, no wonder her son likes to drink so much.

After taking a sip, she held the pesticide in her left hand and the sweet wine in her right hand and drank the medicine with great difficulty.

Then wait quietly for the natural results.

In her drowsy moments, she inevitably recalled some fragments of her life.

Born in the old society, the first thing I remember is my mother's shoulders, which were tied with two rag bags. I watched her begging for rice from the east family and water from the west family.

When I grew up a little, I started to help with housework and was busy all the time until I reached the age to get married. Naturally, I got married. The calluses on my hands became thicker and thicker. I gave birth to several children, some of whom died, and raised a few. Most of my life was over.

Before she completely lost consciousness and fell into the endless darkness like the sea, Ajing's shy smiling face flashed through her mind.

This child looks very much like her, even their birthday is the same as hers.

However, it is better not to have destinies that are too similar.

Ajing, you should have a different life.

Don't ruin your future because of her, a person who has no future.

However, when Ah Jing's father said this, it became "Grandma wanted to commit suicide because you were unfilial."

This middle-aged man was frustrated and anxious. Perhaps he realized that he was wrong, but he still subconsciously pushed the responsibility away to alleviate his guilt.

"It's you!" Ajing's father roared, "If you had married honestly, would this have happened?"

"You're the one who killed your grandmother!"

Chen Lanjun couldn't bear to listen any longer: "It was obviously you."

"You little fucking bastard, you're scolding me." Ajing's father pulled Chen Lanjun's sleeve while saying something dirty.

Ah Jing, who had been silent not far away, suddenly moved. She grabbed Chen Lanjun's hand, then raised her hand high, and with a "slap", she slapped her father hard.

Ajing's father was stunned!

He stood there in disbelief, as if he were in a dream.

Ah Jing's eyes were red as bloodshot, and she spoke word by word:

"If anything happens to grandma, I will ask you to pay me back."

Fearing that the man in front of her would go crazy, Chen Lanjun silently picked up a feather duster that someone had placed in the corner.

The next second, Ajing's father came to his senses and pounced on him viciously.

"You are such a conscienceless beast, you dare to hit your father, you are rebelling against heaven."

He took a step forward and gave the feather duster a kiss on the cheek.

"Ajing, get out of the way!" Chen Lanjun got into a stance just in case. She had learned martial arts during her physical education class at school. Although she might not have much strength, her body was very flexible. She jumped around and danced with the feather duster with great vigor.

Ah Jing also reacted immediately and started to take sides.

Two against one, feathers flying to the sky.

However, Ajing's father also did physical work all year round. He was angry and anxious, so he used brute force and actually caught Chen Lanjun's weakness. He thought he must teach this girl a lesson, so he kicked Chen Lanjun in the waist!

"Sister Lan, be careful!" Ah Jing widened her eyes and exclaimed.

The kick was very powerful. If it really hit someone, they would be seriously injured.

Just as Chen Lanjun was about to be kicked, a figure suddenly appeared behind Ajing's father.

It was a standard naked choke, and the cashmere sleeves of the camel-colored coat tightly tightened around his neck.

Three seconds.

Ajing's father's face turned red, like a dead dog.

Seeing that the target had lost its threat, Shao Qinghe indifferently let go, took out a smoky gray handkerchief from his coat pocket, and patted it on his sleeve with disgust.

Chen Lanjun's heart was still beating wildly. She took a deep breath and retreated to a safe distance.

"Thank you very much."

What echoed in my ears was Shao Qinghe's low, slightly arrogant voice: "You're welcome. Learn from Lei Feng's good example."

...It feels weird to hear him, a young master from the capitalist world, say this.

Chen Lanjun pursed her lips and went to help Ah Jing: "Are you okay?"

"It's okay. Did you get kicked?"

"No."

Ajing's father sat on the ground, panting heavily. His voice was hoarse, but he still kept cursing in a hoarse voice: "You little beast..."

"What are you arguing about? This is a hospital, not a vegetable market! You——"

The medical staff who had just finished their work rushed over and was about to scold, but turned around and saw Shao Qinghe, who was wearing a coat on the outside and a well-ironed suit on the inside. He couldn't figure out where this person came from, but thought that it must be unusual that he was not caught by the patrol team for his illegal outfit and was standing here with his dignity, so he swallowed the curse word and used civilized language.

"If anyone makes any more noise, I'll ask security to throw them out."

After a big fuss, it finally died down. As Ajing's father's fighting power was greatly reduced and Ajing was also exhausted, the two sides fell into a temporary peace, one sitting on the bench on the left side of the emergency room and the other on the right side.

Two somewhat similar faces, equally cold.

Chen Lanjun asked Ah Jing: "Can you please go to the front and ask if there is anything to eat?"

"Go ahead," Ah Jing said, "thank you for your help. I'll forget it. I can't eat."

She stood up and walked towards Shao Qinghe: "Mr. Shao, have you eaten yet?"

Shao Qinghe nodded.

After sending these people to the hospital, he went to a banquet, where the local leaders entertained him warmly.

Back in the car, the driver asked him, "Going back to the hotel?"

"Somewhere lively to go."

"This...really not," the driver said, "The mainland is not as prosperous as the port city, and this is a small county town. Once it gets dark, there is nothing lively."

"oh."

There was nothing exciting to watch, Shao Qinghe was a little annoyed, he didn't like silence very much.

But this person said there was nothing exciting to watch.

The image of that embarrassed girl flashed through my mind.

"Go to the county hospital." Shao Qinghe ordered.

Then he caught up with a fun event.

The girl danced with a feather duster with great enthusiasm, flicking it left and hitting it right. It was interesting.

There is a chicken feather stuck on the end of her hair, which adds a sense of humor.

Now, with chicken feathers on her head, she asked him seriously whether he had eaten or not, which was quite interesting.

Shao Qinghe curled his lips and moved his gaze from the chicken feathers to her knees. Although it was winter and she was wearing thick pants, he didn't know how this girl got a cut on her knee.

"Nothing?" he asked.

Chen Lanjun lowered her head and looked at her knee. It would have been fine if she hadn't mentioned it, but when she did, it really hurt a bit.

Ah Jing was anxious: "Did he fall? Go and ask the nurse to take a look."

"It's nothing serious, don't worry, I'll go and see."

Chen Lanjun glared at Ajing's father and said to the other family members nearby: "Please help look after my sister and don't let anyone bully her."

Only after getting a positive answer did she get up and limp to check her injury.

"It's all blue, don't you feel anything?"

While helping to deal with it, the nurse reminded: "Young girl, you should also be careful, what if you really get sick?"

"I didn't take care of that, hiss - be gentle -"

After applying the medicine, Shao Qinghe did not leave. Perhaps he thought the stool was uncomfortable, so he stood with his hands in his coat pockets, his deep eyes staring into space without focus.

Chen Lanjun walked towards him: "What are you looking at?"

"Watch your fun."

He answered nonchalantly.

You can't expect this person to talk nicely. Chen Lanjun rolled her eyes and sat down on the bench closest to him.

"Thank you so much for today. The doctor just said that it's a good thing we got here, otherwise we wouldn't have to be rushed to the emergency room."

"How about the old lady?"

"They are still trying to save him. At his age, it's hard to tell."

"She took the medicine herself?"

Logically speaking, this kind of thing should not be told to outsiders. However, Shao Qinghe must have seen some clues and guessed a little bit in the car before. Chen Lanjun hesitated for a moment and told the truth: "Yes."

There was silence for a while.

The tranquility of the night was disturbed by the hurried voice of a family member calling for a doctor. Chen Lanjun and Shao Qinghe turned their heads at the same time and watched the doctor and nurse trotting over.

Shao Qinghe lowered his eyes and said, "Actually, if she really wants to leave, it wouldn't be a bad idea to let her go."

Chen Lanjun glanced at him and said, "If you tell this to others, you will definitely get beaten."

"You can't beat me."

“…”

Chen Lanjun turned sideways and looked at Shao Qinghe very intently. Why did this man seem a little pessimistic in his bones?

"Why do you think so?"

Shao Qinghe crossed his arms and said, "Isn't life for fun? If you don't think it's fun, forget it."

"It's not unreasonable," Chen Lanjun said, "but Jing's grandmother doesn't think so. There are reasons to live and reasons to leave. Jing's grandmother thinks she is a burden to Jing, but that's not the case. In fact, it's quite the opposite, and this problem can be solved."

Shao Qinghe listened silently without rebutting, but asked: "You said there is a reason to live, so what is your reason?"

Chen Lanjun thought about it.

She thought of the time she spent lying on the hospital bed before her rebirth and frowned slightly.

"I had a serious illness once. It was really painful. I couldn't stand the pain and wanted to end it all. But——"

"There was a very tall magnolia tree outside the ward, and I thought at the time, why not wait until I can see the flowers bloom again?"

Shao Qinghe looked at Chen Lanjun as if she were a monster.

Chen Lanjun laughed: "Yes, the magnolia flowers that hadn't bloomed that year kept me alive. Isn't it a little funny?"

There was no smile on Shao Qinghe's face. He seemed to be lost in a dream. After a long moment, he slowly shook his head.

Chen Lanjun suspected that she had said something wrong to upset him, and was about to ask, when suddenly Ah Jing's excited voice came from the other end of the corridor: "Sister Lan! Grandma's operation was successful! Come quickly."

"Hey - I'm coming."

Chen Lanjun stood up and was about to leave, but her sleeve was grabbed.

Shao Qinghe raised his eyes and said calmly: "I helped you, but you can at least tell me your name, right?"

"My name is Chen Lanjun."

"Erdong Chen?"

"Yes, Lan is the Lan in 'Yulan', and Jun is the Jun in 'Jun'." Chen Lanjun looked over there and said, "I really have to go now. Thank you, thank you!"

She started to jog, her long hair fluttering in the wind.

Shao Qinghe watched her leave and tilted his head.

The orchid in “Magnolia”…
