Chapter 6 Chapter 6 I won't bother you anymore
After returning home in the evening, Li Jinglang went into his room as usual, but this time Tang Ningyue did not call him out as usual, but went back to her room like him.
He has made a new remote-controlled plane, which is still in the debugging stage. This time it flies more steadily than before, and the speed and altitude can be precisely controlled.
He leaned back in his swivel chair, his cell phone placed on the table, and Zhou Su on the screen was still talking.
"How are you getting along with your sister?" Zhou Su seemed to have just returned to the hotel and had just finished his meal. He still looked distracted from the hectic schedule.
"It's fine." He said this while wiping the parts with clean paper in his hand without looking up.
"I was saying how nice it would be to have a sister by your side. When you were little, you loved Yue'er so much and cried for a sister every day. You..."
"Mom..." He interrupted her, putting down the shiny metallic parts in his hand. He met Zhou Su's gaze, lowered his eyelids again and said incoherently: "You've been tired all day, go to bed early."
"Okay, okay~ I won't say anything to you anymore. You have to listen to your sister at home, okay? Don't be stubborn again, okay?"
"knew."
Li Jinglang hung up the phone, leaned back against the pillow, and fiddled with the remote control boredly.
The house was too quiet tonight, so quiet that it seemed like the days before Tang Ningyue came. Li Jinglang suddenly felt a little uncomfortable.
After staying in the room for another ten minutes, it was still quiet outside. He finally couldn't sit still anymore and got up and opened the door.
The corridor and living room were dark, and no light came through the crack of Tang Ningyue's room door.
She is not at home.
He turned around to grab the phone on the table. His fingerprint touched the screen, and it automatically unlocked. A new message popped up, as if it had calculated the time perfectly.
Li Jinglang's note for Tang Ningyue was just one word - she.
She: [I'm going to the convenience store to buy some food. I'm a little hungry.]
Li Jinglang looked up at the clock. It was eight o'clock in the evening, less than two hours after they finished their meal.
She: [Do you want to eat anything? I'll bring it up for you.]
Li Jinglang stared at the screen in his hand and sat back on the transfer. As soon as the phone was placed on the table, a call from Tang Ningyue popped up.
"Hello? Jinglang."
"Um."
Tang Ningyue's voice was always gentle, yet it was like a mouthful of popping candy. Even though she kept her mouth shut, the frantic trembling in her mouth made her brain leap with joy. In comparison, Li Jinglang's voice was always as calm as a lake.
"Would you like to eat something?"
"I'm not hungry."
Knowing that she didn't go far, Li Jinglang started fiddling with the parts again with confidence and listened quietly to the woman opposite him.
"The Crispy Bone Balls are sold out. This is the only one left." The cashier's voice came from the other side of the receiver. Li Jinglang shut up with a look.
"Do you want to eat this?" Tang Ningyue seemed to be talking to someone else. Li Jinglang's eyes moved slightly and he glanced at the phone which was still on a call.
"Thank you, sister."
A clear boy's voice came from the receiver again.
Perhaps she was sharing her kindness again, Li Jinglang withdrew his gaze, threw the parts in his hand onto the table, and had no intention of continuing to play.
"Don't you really want to eat?" Tang Ningyue put the phone to her ear again and talked to Li Jinglang.
"Then... bring me a bottle of water," he said.
"What kind of water? Sparkling water or yogurt?" Tang Ningyue walked to the cabinet and stopped.
"mineral water."
“.....”
Tang Ningyue swallowed back the words "Don't we have it at home?"
"Okay." She gritted her teeth, "I'll bring it to you."
The call was interrupted and the phone returned to the lock screen. Li Jinglang curled his lips and picked up the tools on the table again.
The convenience store is right at the north gate of the community. Li Jinglang estimated that Tang Ningyue would be here soon, so he slowly walked out of the room and sat on the sofa in the living room waiting for his bottle of water.
Tang Ningyue came back later than expected. Li Jinglang waited for a while and then stood up and stood by the floor-to-ceiling window to look down. Her back was easy to recognize and the first person he saw when he glanced down was her.
At this moment, Tang Ningyue was standing opposite a little boy who was being held by his mother. She held his little hand affectionately. The boy was holding something to eat in his hand. He was probably the boy who called her sister on the phone just now.
The two adults and the child chatted downstairs for a long time. Li Jinglang was tired of watching them, so she reluctantly went back. At first, people thought she was a new mother who was learning from others.
Does she like children so much?
Isn’t she most annoyed by little boys?
When Tang Ningyue returned home, Li Jinglang was drinking water from the refrigerator in the living room. She walked over unhappily and threw the bottle of mineral water in her arms into his arms: "Drink."
"You're back too late." He said, as if explaining to her, his tone was mixed with some displeasure but not obvious, and his tone was always light.
"I wasted some time downstairs." Tang Ningyue took off her scarf and coat, then folded them back and hung up the clothes.
"Because I just saw someone who looks similar to you..." She paused, stared into his eyes and curled her lips cunningly, "Puppy."
Li Jinglang's eyes moved slightly, then slowly retracted, and he continued to unscrew the bottle cap and took a sip.
"I just bought two intestines to feed it," she took out the remaining half of the intestine, "there is one left, but it refuses to eat it."
Tang Ningyue tore open the remaining packaging and said, "Try it. Is it not tasty?"
“.....”
Her hand reached up to his mouth, half a piece of ham dangling over it.
"I break it up and feed it to him. It's very clean." She explained again, her eyes sparkling, and she showed no intention of letting him go.
Li Jinglang had never successfully refused her case, so he had no choice but to reach out to take it under her watchful gaze. Before his two fingers even touched it, she pulled his hand away and threw it into the trash can.
"It's for the puppies." She smiled, "You really eat it."
"fool."
"Eat this." Without saying anything, Tang Ningyue stuffed a sandwich biscuit into his mouth, and the fragrance instantly exploded in his mouth.
“Is it delicious?”
She sat down next to him, and Li Jinglang could still feel the slight chill emanating from her body.
As the year draws to a close, it has not snowed since the last time the snow melted. Only cold air continues to hit the city. We look forward to the next snowfall.
"The bath water is ready," he said. "You can take a bath now."
"Have you washed?"
Tang Ningyue glanced at his dry and frizzy hair and rubbed it twice.
Her palm was still warm, and she stroked it down from her head to her chin. She withdrew her hand and continued to lean on the sofa, eating and replying to messages.
Wherever her palm touched, there was a burst of heat. Li Jinglang cleared his throat, lowered his head and still did not look at her.
She was always at ease. Whether he was around or not, Tang Ningyue always maintained the most comfortable state. Although she was in his home, he seemed to be covered with thorns. No matter which direction he leaned, he felt uncomfortable. He could only support his knees with his elbows and look at the floor where human shadows were reflected under the light.
In winter, the room is always too dry. Even with the humidifier on, static electricity still occurs everywhere, and it can ignite a layer of sparks on the skin. Especially when it is so close to her.
"I'm sleepy." He said, "I'm going to sleep first."
"Um."
Tang Ningyue responded without much reaction.
"Remember to take a hot bath." Halfway through the walk, he stopped again and turned around to remind her.
"Okay." Tang Ningyue looked up and smiled at him, indicating that she heard it.
Li Jinglang didn't stay any longer and turned back to his room. He usually suffered from insomnia, and tonight was no exception.
Zhou Su told him again today that he wanted the previous live-in aunt to come back to work, saying that she was too busy at work and it was inconvenient to always hire hourly workers to clean.
Li Jinglang immediately took over her words and said that he would clean every day, and he would also clean her display cabinets and other places that the smart home could not reach, because he just didn't want to have another person in the house.
Zhou Su was very confused. He said that he was used to Tang Ningyue's sudden return and staying for such a long time. There was no reason for him not to accept having an extra live-in aunt.
Li Jinglang didn't know how to answer for a moment, so he made an excuse that it was time to take his medicine and changed the subject. Zhou Su never mentioned it again.
He didn't feel that he had accepted Tang Ningyue. He was just repaying her care and concern out of politeness, that's all.
He was just doing what a polite adult should do. Li Jinglang stared at the pages in his hand in a daze until the thick aircraft instruction manual fell from his hand.
Li Jinglang got out of bed to pick it up and heard footsteps outside. It was probably Tang Ningyue getting ready to take a shower.
He put the instruction manual under his pillow again, lay back on the bed and covered himself with the quilt. This time he finally felt sleepy.
"Jinglang."
The sleepiness that had been brewing was half awakened by Tang Ningyue.
"I'm going to sleep." Li Jinglang didn't open the door. He stared at the neatly folded blanket in the open closet door and turned over. "The new bath towel is on the chair in your room."
"I saw it, thank you." After that, she asked, "Didn't Aunt Zhou say that there would be a live-in nanny to do these things? If you are not in good health..."
"Auntie won't come." Li Jinglang closed his eyes. "Do you have anything else to say?"
"The doctor said you need a paper copy of the medical report to submit to the school. I'll get it for you tomorrow."
"Okay." His eyes darkened, and he only replied, "Thank you."
- Tang Ningyue has focused all her attention on Li Jinglang in the days since she came back, but this guy is like a stone that can't be warmed up. His attitude is always indifferent, which is more troublesome than any other project she has done before.
The next afternoon, Tang Ningyue went to the hospital to get a follow-up examination form for Li Jinglang. She frowned for a long time looking at the test results. Even Wen Xi, who was sitting opposite her drinking afternoon tea with her, couldn't bear it anymore.
"Paranoid personality disorder often manifests as hypersensitivity, suspicion, excessive vigilance, vindictiveness, jealousy, and the misinterpretation of others' kindness." Wen Xi read Baidu Encyclopedia word by word, his expression contorted. "Why don't you move out?"
"....." Tang Ningyue pursed her lips speechlessly, "Isn't it possible for a proper medical diagnosis to reveal so many problems? And you found so many problems just by searching online?"
"To be honest, I haven't noticed anything wrong with him in the few days I've been here. Aunt Zhou also told me before that he was emotionally unstable and in a bad state. Before the business trip, she was worried that we wouldn't get along."
"But he really didn't." Tang Ningyue said seriously, trying to clear Li Jinglang's name. "He's very well behaved, even better than when he was a child."
"Then could the doctor have made a mistake with 'severe anxiety' on this list?" Wen Xi pointed at the two words on the list and said to her, "My brother took him for a checkup before and got the same result. They can't always make mistakes, right?"
"Has he...been ill?"
"That's not the case." Wen Xi shook his head. "He doesn't interact with us much, so we don't have much chance to get to know him. Besides, didn't Aunt Zhou say he didn't have many friends? So, you're the one who interacts with him the most, so you'd better be careful."
"He can even eat me." Tang Ningyue disagreed. "I think he's just making a big deal out of nothing. No one can handle such excessive attention. A normal person would be driven crazy."
"Besides, Jinglang has grown up now. He is much more well-behaved than my stupid brother. He is obedient and considerate. He even helped me run the bath water last night. What a good child."
"That's because you don't care about him at all and are just perfunctory. Do you really understand him?"
Wen Xi hit the nail on the head, and Tang Ningyue was speechless.
"I...I pick him up and drop him off every day, how can I hold him in my hands?" Tang Ningyue rolled her eyes and took a sip of coffee to hide her guilty conscience.
"If you really cared, wouldn't you have noticed his symptoms?"
Wen Xi didn't believe it. Tang Ningyue has always been a careful person. Unless she was too lazy to pay attention, if it was as serious as the doctor said, she would have felt uncomfortable a long time ago.
"Okay." Tang Ningyue nodded, "I tried my best. I will definitely try my best next time."
Tang Ningyue did not feel at ease after the perfunctory work in the coffee shop in the afternoon. When she returned to the company, she was still worried and thought about the lines on the list from time to time.
Duan Jiayu had already arrived at the company for his acting class, and Tang Ningyue sat in the corner of the classroom, watching him with a nervous air.
"Sister, is this part okay?"
When Duan Jiayu's handsome face came closer with humility, Tang Ningyue gave him a rare smile, "Maintain your current state."
"Now?" He leaned back a little sheepishly, as she praised him. "The teacher said I need more training."
"I'm talking about your current state as a human being," she repeated, and left him to figure out what she meant.
"sister!"
He called her again from behind, and Tang Ningyue raised her cell phone to indicate that he had a call to answer.
Li Jinglang's call came at a very inopportune time. Tang Ningyue was thinking about how to tell him the test results, but he accepted it all without any concern.
"Actually, it's no big deal. Just listen to the doctor and there will be no problem." Tang Ningyue didn't know how to comfort her. When the words came to her lips, she became speechless and stammered out some words that were not really comforting.
"Will you come back?" He asked this question for a long time.
"Huh?" Tang Ningyue was caught off guard by his question and didn't react. "Of course I'm going back. I'll pick you up after class."
"Yeah." His tone became lighter, "Then it's okay."
"....Li Jinglang." Tang Ningyue suddenly remembered what Wen Xi had said to her in the afternoon. Wen Xi was right. He was indeed sensitive and suspicious, and she didn't care about him that much.
"My problem isn't that unacceptable, is it?"
"So you told me this specifically?"
"I didn't mean to hide it from you." Li Jinglang's breathing became heavy. "If you can't accept it and want to stay away from me like them, I will tell my mother for you."
"I'll let you go. This time I won't be like when we were little."
"I won't bother you anymore."
The author has something to say:
----------------------
Li Jinglang, you'd better remember what you said now.
