Chapter 157: The Love of Parents
Duan Xi's expression was filled with satisfaction, and his eyes held a subtle hint of pride that seemed to indicate he was in control of everything.
Lu Zhong would probably never guess that I had replaced his biological son with me since birth and raised him by my side to be the most valuable chess piece.
In the end, he will destroy the Lu family with his own hands, right?
She began to imagine, when Lu Zhong found out the truth, would he kneel down in front of her in regret and beg for forgiveness?
Duan Xi quickly collected his thoughts to avoid letting Duan Jingyao notice.
She patted Duan Jingyao's shoulder, as if a true aunt had given her nephew 100% trust, and said, "You will leave for Beijing tomorrow. By the way, pick up Lu Qingcheng at the airport."
…
After finishing an online meeting with overseas partners in the afternoon, Meng Anran received a call from Chen Jing, the manager of Yandu Hotel.
"What's the matter?" She lowered her head to deal with documents, her tone indifferent and a bit nonchalant.
"Boss, your sister just called me and said she wants to take over the banquet. I didn't dare to agree without your permission, so I came here specifically to ask your opinion."
Meng Anran's eyes froze for half a second, and then she said quickly, "Don't let her get involved. You guys are responsible for all the arrangements and drinks. If anything happens, contact Xiao Li. When the time comes, make a list of all the supplies and send it to him."
"Understood. Boss, can we still get the drinks at Liu's as usual?"
"Well, Liuzhi has returned to China. Contact her directly to order wine."
"Then how should I refuse your sister?"
"Just tell her that there's someone in charge of planning and arranging the banquet."
"OK."
Meng Anran hung up the phone and continued to work, not even bothering to think about why Meng Zhen wanted to take over the banquet planning.
Meng Zhen, who was already in a low mood after receiving Chen Jing's rejection, suffered a heavy blow. Since Chen Jing took some time to reply to her, it meant that he had consulted Meng Anran.
It was not Chen Jing's idea to not let her host the banquet, but Meng Anran's.
Refusing with such a high-sounding reason seemed to indicate that she had no faith in her ability to host the party.
Yes, all the guests invited to this birthday party were dignitaries in the Beijing circle. No one would be at ease to entrust it to her, who has never been exposed to business or upper-class circles.
If anything goes wrong, more than one or two guests will be offended.
Meng Zhen sighed. Compared with her sister, she was really far behind.
Their thinking, ability, mind, and status are as different as heaven and earth, and they do not belong to the same circle at all.
Even though she had once been a daughter of a wealthy family, she was insignificant compared to Meng Anran, who came from a prominent family, had more than ten years of business experience, and had been in the world of fame and fortune for many years.
Not only Meng Zhen was frustrated, Su Wanman and Meng Rong were not much better off.
In the evening, Su Wanman specially cooked a meal and asked Meng Rong to drive it to Meng Anran.
It was already eight o'clock and Meng Anran was still in a meeting. It was his assistant Xiao Li who came down to pick up Meng Rong.
He originally wanted to meet with his daughter and tell her to eat well, but he ended up waiting in the lounge for over an hour. The food was cold and no one had come out of the meeting room yet.
Xiao Li came in and poured tea for Mengrong, one cup after another. Seeing an old father sitting here waiting for more than an hour, he felt sad.
Unable to help but excuse the boss, she also offered a few words of advice: "I'm sorry, Mr. Meng, this meeting concerns a 100 million yuan project under our Tianyi Games, and President An really can't leave. How about you leave the dinner behind and go back to rest early? After President An finishes the meeting, I'll take the food to the cafeteria to heat it up and give it to her."
Meng Rong touched the lunch box in his arms and sighed, "It's cold. Even if I reheat it, it won't taste good. Tell her to remember to eat something after get off work. If she always skips meals, her stomach will get damaged."
"Okay." Xiao Li bowed slightly to show his respect, and when Meng Rong stood up, he walked him downstairs.
It was not until Mengrong got in the car and drove out of the parking lot that Xiao Li let out a long sigh.
Poor parents in the world!
The meeting didn't end until half past ten.
"Mr. An, Lao He and I are planning to have a midnight snack. Do you want to join us?" Liu Jia was tidying up the documents on the table and looked at Meng Anran.
Meng Anran glanced at He Daocheng and saw that he had no desires. She chuckled and looked at Liu Jia again, "Why should I join in the fun when you two are dating?"
Liu Jia was just being polite. Since Meng Anran didn't want to go, he didn't force her to leave. He just said, "Okay, we'll go first."
Everyone in the conference room walked out one after another. Xiao Li went against the flow and squeezed in, only to see Meng Anran still sitting in the main seat, leisurely organizing the meeting minutes.
Everyone takes notes differently, so she doesn't delegate these subtle tasks. She keeps a thick notebook of her own, in which she writes down the important points from each meeting.
"Mr. An, your father brought food over at eight o'clock and waited for you in the lounge for over an hour." Xiao Li reported the situation concisely. Seeing Meng Anran turn her head to look at him, he continued, "He said the food was cold, so he took it back and told you to eat something hot after the meeting."
"Okay, I understand." Meng Anran lowered his head and continued to organize his notes, seemingly not caring too much about it.
After about five minutes, he closed the notebook and stood up. "You've worked hard today. Remember to register your overtime hours with the finance department tomorrow."
"Okay." Xiao Li responded respectfully and followed the boss out. He didn't leave until she said it was time to go home.
Meng Anran sat alone in the office, pinched her eyebrows tiredly, and called Meng Rong.
The call was quickly connected. She took a deep breath and softened her voice. "Dad, I just finished a meeting. I heard you were here?"
"Yes, I was going to bring you some food, but I didn't expect you to be in a meeting so late. The food was cold, so I brought it back." Meng Rong said simply, not mentioning that he had been sitting in the lounge waiting for over an hour. Instead, he asked with concern: "Have you eaten yet? Why don't you come home and let Dad cook you some noodles?"
Meng Anran glanced at the time. It was almost eleven o'clock. "No, I still have some work to do. I won't be going home tonight. You guys should go to bed early. Don't bother bringing me food in the future. There are always hot meals in the company cafeteria."
Hearing this, Meng Rong lowered his eyes, and the feeling of helplessness that he had not felt for a long time surged into his heart again, as if he was just like when Meng Anran had just returned to the Meng family. He didn't know how to care for her, what she needed, or what he could do for her.
I feel very guilty and always feel that as a father I can't give anything to my daughter and I am really useless.
"It's very late now. You should go to bed early and don't stay up late." Meng Anran had a severe headache and didn't notice Meng Rong's emotions. When she heard the response from the other end, she hung up the phone.
Go lie down on the sofa and take a nap.
There was no other work scheduled for tonight, but she was so tired that she had to be recorded as fatigued driving when she drove on the road.
Just as I was about to fall asleep, my cell phone suddenly rang.
She turned over and sat up, picked up the phone on the table and took a look. It was an unknown caller.
