Little puppy and the white moonlight

Little puppy and the white moonlight

After transferring between two subway lines, it was getting even darker outside when they exited the subway. Zhiwei habitually walked on the opposite side of the pedestrian crossing, closer to the road. Li Fuqiang watched the slender girl ahead, carefully looking around and trying to take care of herself, and felt a pang of emotion.

“When I was young, I had a girl I liked. She was quite pretty, at least in my eyes. But we were both too poor. When we went out together, we would walk like this: she would walk in front, and I would follow a little behind. We didn’t dare to hold hands.”

"Later, our county magistrate's daughter took a liking to me, so I married her and started a business because of it. So many years have passed in the blink of an eye, and I thought I had forgotten about it, but actually I haven't."

Li Fuqiang quickened his pace, placing himself to the outside of Zhiwei. Zhiwei didn't even glance at him, thinking to herself, "Judging by his unremarkable appearance, was he also someone else's object of affection when he was young?"

He smiled as if he could read minds and said, "When you're young, if you lose 20 pounds, stand up straight, and don't have a belly, you'll still be somewhat presentable."

Zhiwei felt a little embarrassed and quickly changed the subject, "Is it because I look like that girl? The one you like?"

Li Fuqiang stopped and glanced at her, saying wistfully, "No, you're much prettier than her. Actually, I don't remember what she looked like very clearly anymore. It's just that there always feels like something is missing in my heart."

Under the hazy lights of New York, on the dimly lit and lonely streets, the two walked silently. Hearing these melancholy words, Zhiwei seemed to feel for the first time the helplessness and sorrow of fate. But if he were given the chance to choose again, he would probably still make the same choice. It was difficult to ask him this aloud.

"You young girls must all put love first, right? Surely you wouldn't have an old, unsophisticated nouveau riche like me in your ideal type, would you?"

"Mr. Li, please don't say that."

"It's a pity that life isn't always so smooth. Or rather, it's because we're too greedy and want everything. If I had been with that girl back then, we might have been tormented by life and become a resentful couple, and we wouldn't have been able to cherish the beautiful memories anymore."

"Your wife?"

"Later, as my business grew bigger and bigger, we had less and less in common. Whenever I was home, there was always constant arguing, so I stayed out more and less. After more than ten years, we finally got divorced. I have a daughter who is a little older than you. Although she grew up with me, she was affected by my relationship with her mother and never gave me a good look. I sent her abroad to study when she was in high school."

Upon hearing "less and less in common," Zhiwei thought to herself that it was probably because the woman's family's support had become negligible, and they were still interfering in her life.

"Zhiwei, you have no idea how wonderful you are. You were raised by your mother like a precious jewel since you were little, and you didn't have to scheme or plot. You are so youthful and beautiful, with a clean background and spotless, a graduate of a prestigious university, and you have an artistic aura all over you. You are otherworldly, beautiful without even realizing it, and you are extremely captivating."

"Mr. Li, with your status, what kind of confidante wouldn't you have?"

"Indeed, any beautiful woman can find someone to fawn over me for my money and status. But it's all just a fling, it can't truly warm their heart. They might fawn over me today, but they'll fawn over someone even richer."

So, you're tired of the food that's been delivered to your door and want to try something different, to experience what it's like to "crave but not get"?

"So Mr. Li, you don't want me to become one of them, do you? According to your description, there are plenty of young female college students like me with clean backgrounds and decent looks, so it makes no difference to you."

"There are so many people in the world, but the number of people we have the chance to meet and interact with is actually not that many. If I hadn't come to New York at this time, if you hadn't gone to that ball, perhaps none of this would have happened. Once the wheels start rolling, they can't be stopped."

“Mr. Li, we are on completely different tracks.”

Li Fuqiang looked at Zhiwei with a hint of pity in his eyes, "Zhiwei, our paths have crossed." It wasn't until much later that Zhiwei understood the meaning behind his gaze at that moment.

"Mr. Li, thank you for seeing me off. I've arrived. Goodbye," Zhiwei said, and fled upstairs as if she were escaping.

Li Fuqiang stood there for a while, but didn't see the girl appear at the window. A car slowly pulled up beside him; it was his driver, Wu Hongbing, who had followed him from the school.

"Mr. Li, shall we get in the car now?"

"Let's go back."

After dropping Li Fuqiang off, the driver explained the day's itinerary to Li Fuqiang's assistant, Qian Dayou, and then went back to his room to rest.

Qian Dayou went next door and knocked on Youlin's door. "President Zhao, it's me, Dayou."

Zhao Youlin opened the door. "What can't we talk about at the meeting tomorrow?"

"Old Wu just came to see me and said he had just picked up President Li. President Li spent the whole day at the university, and even went out of his way to accompany a girl on the subway home in the evening. Old Wu only dared to drive over and pick up President Li after he saw the girl get on the subway. I've known President Li for so many years, and I've never seen him care so much about any woman before."

"By the way, Mr. Zhao's little puppy didn't come today. How about it, the perk of dating on company funds is pretty good, isn't it?"

"My contribution is nothing. Mr. Li can give you two million US dollars with a wave of his hand. How can that be compared? If you're envious, I'll give you the opportunity."

"No, no, no, I don't have Mr. Zhao's charm. Are you saying that Mr. Li is really going to cultivate his character and remain faithful to one woman? Is our Fumao Group going to have a mistress?"

"You dare to make up stories about President Li? President Li is tired of ordinary women and wants to experience the pure moonlight. We just need to do our job. This matter doesn't affect the company's prospects, so we don't need to worry about it."

"If she really becomes the mistress of the house, this situation will be awkward for you in the future."

"What nonsense are you talking about? What did I do?"

Qian Dayou gave her a look that said, "Come on, everyone knows this already," and Zhao Youlin impatiently pushed him out.
