President Li needs to select courses
Li Fuqiang said, "I'm here for a study tour and I'd like to audit a few classes at Columbia University, but I don't know how to do the course selection. I'd like to ask Ms. Shen for some guidance."
Zhiwei was speechless for a moment, not expecting him to actually want to attend the class. But even if he wanted to attend, he couldn't possibly listen to an English-taught lecture with university students, could he?
Shouldn't people like them have lectures given by professors and translators? Even if they want to experience the university atmosphere, they should be attending courses from the management school, which is too far removed from what a small art student like her can do.
Seeing her hesitate, Li Fuqiang said to himself with a self-deprecating smile, "I can't understand any of the professional courses. I just wanted to audit a few easy and relaxing classes to experience the atmosphere of the ivory tower."
Zhiwei felt a little embarrassed when he voiced her thoughts. "Mr. Li, you're too kind. Classes at Columbia are quite casual, and professors rarely take attendance. Students who aren't enrolled in the courses can find a classroom to audit if they're interested. I sometimes go to audit classes from other majors, just for fun."
“Columbia’s East Asian culture program is also very insightful. I remember there are a few courses taught in Chinese, as well as some courses in our art department and some lectures, which are all worth attending. Let me check the course schedule for next semester and see which ones Mr. Li might be interested in. I’ll list the times and classrooms and send them to you. If you have time, it would be nice to attend.”
As Zhiwei spoke, she turned on her computer, found the course schedule for the next semester, and selected some Chinese courses, some visual appreciation courses, and some lectures on Eastern culture. She then asked Li Fuqiang which ones might be of interest to him.
Li Fuqiang sat beside her, listening to her questions and agreeing with them while naturally looking at her profile. The girl's face was crystal clear; up close, he could see she wasn't wearing makeup, yet her lips were red and her teeth white—youth was truly beautiful. He could even see the tiny downy hairs on her face. He felt a tickle in his heart, wanting to reach out and touch those fine hairs, but he knew he couldn't be presumptuous and forced himself to turn his gaze away.
Her hair was thick and casually draped, and she dressed very casually. After meeting her a few times, he had noticed that she didn't usually dress up much, even possessing a slightly bohemian, art-student-like air. This only made her bright red dress that night seem like an everlasting flower blooming in his heart. Of course, she was even more beautiful now, looking more youthful than when she was dressed up, which made him suddenly feel a little ashamed of himself.
Zhiwei had finished introducing the course overview and asked him, "I've written down these courses and their locations for you. Would you like to send them to one of your colleagues?"
Li Fuqiang snapped out of his daze, took out his business card from his pocket, and gave it to her. Zhiwei took it, sent all the relevant information to the email address on the card, but didn't want to return it, so she put it in her bag.
Li Fuqiang then asked, "Which classes here will you attend? It's a bit unsettling to go to a classroom you don't know. It would be more reassuring to know someone there."
Zhiwei was stunned for a while. Since she had already gone this far, she figured a little more wouldn't hurt, so she honestly told her about two courses she would also choose.
Li Fuqiang glanced at his watch and said, "I've taken up so much of your time, let me treat you to dinner."
Zhiwei declined, saying, "Mr. Li, you're too kind. It was just a small favor. I still have some homework to finish today, and it's rare that I've gathered all the materials today. Please make yourself at home."
Li Fuqiang said, "It won't take up any of your time. When I arrived, they were saying they had made some xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and delivered them. They're right at the door. Please sit for a moment while I go get them."
Zhiwei watched as he got up, and a few minutes later he came in carrying a thermal container. He opened it on the table, took out two delicate plates, each containing four steaming hot xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), complete with all the condiments. There was also a plate of vegetables and a soup.
After putting everything away, Li Fuqiang stood up and said, "You eat first, I'm going to visit the library."
Zhiwei couldn't help but groan inwardly. Just how much she had enjoyed her meal that day that it left such a deep impression on him? Seeing him leave, she realized she was afraid that he would make her feel uncomfortable eating with him around.
Zhiwei didn't have time to be polite; with such delicious food before her, she couldn't afford to waste it, so she resigned herself to eating.
After Zhiwei finished eating and put away the box, he returned, picked up the box, and politely took his leave. Zhiwei sighed inwardly; such a billionaire, coming to ask her for advice on course selection and even delivering takeout—even novels wouldn't dare to write something like this.
She shook her head, returned to the library, and got back to working on the morning's materials. When the library was about to close in the evening, she packed her things, grabbed her bag, and hurried home. May returned home just as she was cooking pasta.
"May, you're back? I'm cooking pasta, want some?"
"Sure, I'm starving. Thank you."
Zhiwei added some spaghetti, cooked it, mixed it with meat sauce and tomato sauce, and blanched some mushrooms. She and May then nestled on the sofa, holding their plates, watching TV and eating.
Zhiwei and May both enjoy watching home renovation shows, and this one just happened to be on TV. While eating her noodles, Zhiwei asked her, "Weren't you supposed to have a job interview today? Why are you only getting back now? Haven't you had dinner yet?"
"Ugh, this is the company I interviewed with today. They're so shrewd. We talked for an hour, and then they immediately gave me a case to work on. If it weren't for the fact that it's a somewhat well-known studio, I would have suspected they were trying to exploit me for free. It took me two or three hours to finish."
"By the way, did you say Johnny went for an interview too? I think I saw him at the studio mall today, getting out of a luxury sports car."
"Are you sure you didn't see it wrong? Or maybe he and his companion were also there for an interview."
"That's possible. There's a shopping mall downstairs and office buildings upstairs, but I haven't heard of any large companies there."
Zhiwei shrugged. "Who knows?"
Xuan Yu didn't call that evening. Usually, if they didn't meet in person, they would at least call each other every day or two. The next evening, Zhiwei remembered and called Xuan Yu. "How was your interview yesterday?"
Xuan Yu paused for a moment and said, "It's just so-so."
"Do you have a lot of people being interviewed? The studio May was interviewing at is over there, and she said she thought she saw you."
Xuan Yu paused for a moment on the other end of the phone. "Really? I didn't see her. What did she say?"
"Oh. She said she thought she saw you get out of the car. I guess you went to the interview with a friend?"
"Oh, right, I went with a senior student. I still need to do my homework tomorrow, and I'll try another one on Monday."
"Keep it up. You should also get some rest and recharge."
