On the day they left China, Dad actually brought his child with him to the airport to see them off. Their so-called younger brother, Mu Zi'an, was thirteen years old. It turned out that he had betrayed Mom shortly after she gave birth to him.
It was also the first time for Mu Zi'an to meet his two half-brothers and half-sisters. The coldness was evident on his face, and even the tone of his voice sounded very much like his father's.
The brother couldn't stand such a scene, so he went into the waiting room first. She waited for her father and this brother whom she had never met to buy all kinds of things they didn't need at all. Maybe their father thought that she and her brother would never come back.
On the plane, she leaned on her brother's shoulder. It turned out that her brother had been bearing all this all these years. He grew up under the love of his parents, but she did not, so she would not be sad or hate him.
In England, her brother stayed with her for three years and got admitted to a medium-sized university. After completing his mission, he returned home. Unfortunately, Mu Zishan was not liked by the teachers at school and dropped out of school in the first year without telling her brother. However, she did learn some knowledge at school and helped people with intelligence work, collecting various information in the morning and going to bars in the evening. She lived a carefree and happy life. Every time she came home after drinking, she always knocked on the door of the neighbor opposite by mistake. The guy opposite was a quiet guy, "Your house is across the street!" He supported Mu Zishan, who was drunk.
"Brother, hey, why are you back?" She hugged him.
He found the key in her pocket and helped her into the room. The dog in the room was as clingy as its owner, licking his ankles non-stop. He laid her on the bed and looked around. It was a mess. He remembered the first time he met her at a bar. No other Asian woman was as open as she was. She was dancing wildly and unrestrainedly in the center.
Every time I carried her back when she was drunk, I would help her tidy up the room, feed the dog that was wagging its tail, and then close the curtains before leaving.
“Hi!”
"Hi!"
Their way of greeting each other was very brief. At that time, she didn't know that his Chinese name was Ouyang Yusheng, but he knew that her name was Mu Zishan.
Mu Zishan didn't like this neighbor very much because every time a friend came to her house, he would always knock on her door, saying that he was disturbing his studies.
However, the landlord said that he was a top student at Cambridge and his family should be quite wealthy since he rented the most expensive house. Naturally, the landlord did not dare to offend him and had to use her as an example, never allowing her to bring friends back for parties again. Moreover, if any friends came here, they must not disturb the lonely college student.
Hiding her brother's secret, she enjoyed a free life for two years, doing only what she loved, fulfilling her childhood heroism. In high society, she was known as a private detective, while in the lower classes, she was called a paparazzi, a tipster, a headhunter, and so on. At first, she was interested in everything: finding people, tracking people, collecting evidence, investigating marriages, and even business investigations. Later, finding all this uninteresting, she simply locked herself in her house, seeing no one, and starving herself for three days straight.
Ouyang Yusheng passed by every day, and the milk piled outside the house had not been taken for three days. He was a little worried about what happened inside, so he couldn't help but knock on her door. He heard a rustling sound from inside, and she appeared in front of him without any decoration, with her eyes flashing constantly between her messy hair. He turned around subconsciously: "Are you okay?" There was no answer. He heard faint footsteps. She didn't even wear shoes. He turned his head hesitantly, and she had returned to the living room, lying on the small bed. He took the first step carefully, trying not to focus his eyes on her, looking at the carpet under the sofa, "Can you put on your clothes?"
"Is it necessary?" She hadn't eaten properly for three days in a row, so naturally she didn't have the energy to care about such trivial matters. "Just put what you have on the table, and remember to close the door when you leave."
He observed the room and found it was not as mysterious as he had imagined. He asked, "Have you eaten?"
She slowly stood up and approached him, "You're just as long-winded as my brother."
Ouyang Yusheng casually put the blanket on the sofa over her. He had never been so at a loss as he was now: "You'd better put on your clothes first."
She opened her eyes and smelled the scent of red wine. It was obvious that this man had just come back from dinner. She had wanted him to treat her to some Chinese food, but she felt a little disappointed when she sat on the sofa and turned on the TV. "I'm hungry. Help me get something to eat."
He looked her up and down, his heart pounding. "Oh!" He went to the kitchen. He really didn't know how to cook anything, so he just cut some bread, heated a cup of milk, and put it on the dining table.
I saw her sneeze and she was concentrating on watching TV without wiping her nose. The snot was still hanging on her mouth. I hurriedly took a tissue to wipe it off for her.
"Can you bring me some food? I'm hungry." She stretched out her right hand and looked at him eagerly.
"Oh!" He put the hot milk on her hand first, then watched her eat the bread that was not baked very well. Seeing that she was staring at the flashing mobile phone, he didn't want to disturb her, so he got up and left.
She turned on her phone. There were quite a few people looking for her, but there were also some unfamiliar numbers calling from China. Suddenly, a call came in. It was her brother's number: "Brother?"
"Zishan! This is Mom." The person speaking wasn't her brother, but her mother, who had never called her before. "Please find time to come back as soon as possible. Your brother is gone."
The phone fell to the ground and her mind went blank.
That evening, she boarded a flight back home and saw her brother for the last time. He lay quietly in his cold coffin, neatly dressed as usual. He seemed so cold, no embrace, no smile. For the first time, she felt as if the world had collapsed. Only endless tears could express her despair. On the day he died, he had performed five surgeries overnight. He had been working for three days without much sleep, and then he collapsed on the operating table.
