"Dad, this way!" Jin Lu took something from his hand and took him to the kitchen.
When he opened the refrigerator, it was full of beer, and Jin Lu could only make some space for him.
Xia Yue knew her brother was deeply in love with Ouyang; every look he gave her today spoke volumes. She even knew Jin Lu loved painting Ouyang, but she had no idea he'd captured every aspect of his expression so vividly. She remembered once attending her brother's exhibition, where someone offered a staggering price for one of his paintings, but she refused to sell it simply because it depicted Ouyang. Looking at all the things in the room, her own feelings paled in comparison.
"Xia Yue, why didn't you call me when my parents came?" Jin Lu came out of the kitchen.
"I told you not to tell you," Wang Yao stood aside, holding a photo of Ouyang and him. "Jin Lu, you are my first child. When you were born, I was afraid you wouldn't grow up, so I stayed by your side every day. To be honest, you are much happier than Xia Yue."
Jin Lu stood aside, wanting to put some things away, but was stopped by Wang Yao: "Even if you hide these things now, can you still hide the selfishness in your heart?"
Xia Yue went to the kitchen and saw her father cooking something: "Dad, what are you doing?"
"Your brother drank so much, this is for him to sober up." Dad looked at him and asked, "Why did you come in?"
"Mom is giving a lecture, it's not appropriate for me to be there."
"Yeah, then you stay here for a while."
In the living room, Jin Lu stood aside without saying a word. He had nothing to say. Since his mother had seen everything, he had nothing to hide.
"Jin Lu, the last time Ouyang was with you was because she was sick. Think about it, if that person wasn't you, but your brother, she would still place her trust in him."
Wang Yao believed that all of this was Jin Lu's fault. She knew Ouyang very well. She had always been strong-willed and always made her own decisions. With her personality, it was impossible for her to fall in love with Jin Lu. They were not from the same world.
"At least during that time, she loved me."
Wang Yao slapped him. "Why are you so stubborn? Ouyang is not suitable for you. You can't control her at all. Why torture yourself like this?"
Xia Yue wanted to go out after hearing the sound, but her father said, "It's better to let your mother handle this matter."
"Dad, Mom has always loved my brother the most."
"Just because she likes your brother the most, you shouldn't go there," Father Xia finished making the soup and looked at his youngest son, "Humph..."
"Dad, what are you laughing at?"
"You, kid, have become much more cheerful since returning from studying abroad. What have you experienced outside these years?"
"Cheer up now? I don't think so."
“That’s when you’re in it.”
"Really?" Xia Yue pretended to be serious. "It means I've matured."
Father Xia checked the time. Judging by the length of time their mother had taken to teach them a lesson, they would have to stay in the kitchen for quite some time. He glanced at his youngest son. Although not a particularly strong boy, he was still a tall and handsome young man. He looked at his masterpiece with satisfaction.
"Dad, don't look at me like that. It makes my scalp tingle."
"Are you planning something bad?"
"What bad ideas could I have?"
"You two are the same. Apart from work, it's that girl Ouyang," Xia's father said with some emotion. "Ouyang is a well-behaved girl, no worse than those celebrities, and she actually has a good temper. Even though your mother gets angry at her, she still calls her godmother. She's sensible and generous."
"Dad, why didn't you praise her in front of Ouyang when we were having dinner just now? What's the point of telling me now?"
"Silly child, I, your father, watched Ouyang grow up. Although I don't understand her reasoning, I still understand her temper. That child has her own personality and is bold and daring. Unlike you when you were a child, you always hid behind your brother."
"How could I have that?"
"But now it's all good. We are all independent."
Father Xia patted him on the shoulder. Although his younger son's family wasn't as exaggerated as his older son's, as a father he still understood a little: "What's going on with that photo on your phone?"
"Dad, did you look at my phone?"
"I found it when you put it on the table," said Father Xia. "Don't do anything bad."
"How can I tell you this?" Xia Yue took out her phone. Actually, there was nothing shameful about it. "She was drunk that day, and I sent her home, and then I took a photo as a souvenir."
"besides……"
"And? Dad, please don't be my mom's spy!"
"Is your dad that kind of person?" Xia's father asked. "I just want to ask, why are you studying criminal investigation for no reason?"
His father is a teacher, so sensitive to books: "If you are interested, read it."
"You think I don't know that you're taking a roundabout approach," he sighed. "If you keep going on like this, I'm not sure if I'll ever see you get married and have a family."
"Yes," Xia Yue comforted him, "Don't worry, your son is not against marriage."
"But I just can't handle the person I like."
Compared to Xia's father, Wang Yao's mother was much more tough. Wang Yao had always been not optimistic about Jin Lu's feelings for Ouyang, not only that, she also opposed this kind of inappropriate love.
