Wang Hao followed her and came to Ji Ou together. Ouyang greeted him politely and then talked about his injuries.
Of course, they didn't chat for a few words before they were interrupted by the sound of someone raising his hand.
"Dear guests, I'm so glad you all took the time to come to this ball," the beautiful host said in a resounding voice on the stage. "Allow me to introduce you: First, welcome to Miss Ouyang Zishan, the detective from the Night Organization."
The spotlight moved on her, causing a burst of warm applause. She nodded slightly to express her gratitude.
"Welcome JO from Jing Organization, Mr. Ji Ou."
Another round of applause.
"Mr. Tanghe, the Tang of the Chun Organization."
At first, she wondered what the names meant, but later she learned from Wang Hao that they were simply named in the order of their establishment, with no distinction between high and low. Of course, this naming method was only used for the most powerful groups in the system.
"And the organizer of this event, Mr. Shengda from the Shan Organization. Now, please invite the organizer, Mr. Shengda, to the stage to speak."
Shengda, who hadn't expected him to be the son of a real estate developer, had independently invested in numerous projects and was a capable, wealthy young man. He stood on the stage, adjusted the microphone's height, glanced at the people around him, and said, "Thank you all for coming to this dance. I don't have many hobbies other than being around people I can get along with. The purpose of inviting everyone to this dance is to get to know each other, especially Miss Ouyang, who has never appeared before you."
Ouyang looked at Wang Hao beside him and asked, "How many of us are attending this dance?"
"Us two," he said, "normally, we wouldn't participate in any activities like this." He looked at her and said, "Don't be surprised. After all, this is our tradition."
He was right. Most of their people were marginalized people who lived at the bottom of society and had first-hand information, so it was impossible for them to reveal any identity information.
The person on the stage continued, "Of course, I have also prepared a variety of activities for everyone. I hope everyone will have a great time."
Just as Ouyang was lost in thought, someone led her and Wang Hao to a room on the second floor.
Likewise, three other people came there and they sat down under some screens.
Wang Hao was also participating in such an event for the first time. He didn't know the specific arrangements, so he quietly reminded her, "Don't leave my side."
Four people each took a corner, with their dance partners standing behind them, holding on-screen controllers.
Wang Hao naturally got one as well.
"Everyone," said a middle-aged man with graying hair standing in the middle of them. His eyes were solemn, as if everything in his eyes became nothing. "The rules are very simple. There are five cases in total. Whoever can complete two cases first wins. The winner has the right to rename the system, and no one else can object." Five cases? That should mean five people. She looked around and saw a surveillance camera on one of the empty seats.
A voice came out of Ouyang's ears: "So this is their plan." Dongya seemed to have expected it. "Ouyang, this time it depends on you."
She hadn't expected things to happen so quickly. It turned out Dongya wasn't the only one with this idea; it seemed everyone had already set their sights on the system's name. She hadn't expected anyone to be patient enough to wait for everyone's vote, instead using this method to expedite the name change.
But Ouyang fell into deep thought. Now there were five of them, and he didn't know whether they could form an alliance.
"The entire competition is completed independently by each party, and no cooperative alliances can be formed," the host continued.
Now she felt much more at ease, after all, she didn't know the strength and methods of these people.
"Let's start with the first case." The host began to show it on the big screen.
What she didn't expect was that the entire case would be presented in a live broadcast format.
Dongya said, "This person used to be a famous forensic doctor. Later, he established his own private detective agency and has a good reputation in the industry."
"Well," she said to herself, "let's go together."
The case is this:
On the evening of September 23rd, a fire broke out on a highway, killing 25 people. A video and a list of names of people were sent from the scene, but no other information was available.
Wang Hao sat beside her, logged into the system, and began to use the list to investigate each person. Ouyang looked at the others; they didn't seem to be in a hurry either, just fiddling with their phones, probably trying to get some information. Only Ji Ou looked at Ouyang without making any move.
Five minutes passed, and Wang Hao showed all the information to Ouyang. Ouyang glanced at it, and for some reason, she had a feeling that everyone present was looking at her, including the host.
Ouyang quickly combined the above information and it was obvious that this was a deliberate arson case, and the target was probably not just one person in the car, but 25 people.
She carefully examined several pictures and combined them with the video from the scene. She whispered in Wang Hao's ear, "The arsonist was the driver."
Wang Hao looked at her in surprise: "If it was the driver, why didn't he run away?"
"He has escaped." Ouyang showed him a few pictures. From the surveillance footage along the way, it can be seen that the driver bought a few bottles of water on the way. And from the scene, although there were things left by him on the driver's seat, it was just an illusion he deliberately created.
