As for what he said was good about Mu Jiang, she understood it from what he said next.
"This time, our first place is still Shen Sheng. His grades are not only ranked first in the class, but also in the entire grade."
"Teacher!" The old man stood up and said slowly, "Here, in front of so many parents, I want to express my special thanks to Mu Jiang."
The teacher was also a little confused and said, "This is Shen Sheng's grandfather."
"Last time, our Chen Sheng was injured during physical education class, but he didn't realize it and was busy studying. It was Mu Jiang who took him to the hospital and did a full body check-up, and only then were the blood clots in his body discovered. Otherwise, he probably wouldn't be able to sit here and study now." After he finished speaking, he looked at Ouyang, as if he was not praising Mu Jiang, but her, the sister who came to the parent-teacher meeting on his behalf.
"I've heard from classmates that this is strange," the homeroom teacher said. "Mu Jiang is very popular in the class and has really helped everyone a lot."
But Ouyang could not hear a single word of praise from the person standing on the podium, but rather a perfunctory attitude. The other parents looked at her and expressed their respect.
She just smiled and didn't say anything. After all, it wasn't her who did it.
After the meeting, she was called to the office by her head teacher again.
"Are you Mu Jiang's sister?" the other party asked with some doubt.
"Yes," she said, "cousin."
"Is he staying with you because his father is in jail?" she asked. "Is his mother not at home?"
"He lives with me," Ouyang said calmly, "as he should."
The other party must have sensed her displeasure and could only change the subject: "Our class has good grades and may be the top class in the next division. However, with Mu Jiang's current past, it's hard to guarantee that he will continue in this class."
Ouyang looked at her, trying to see some reluctance in her eyes, or perhaps she had a better method, but he didn't see any: "What do you mean?"
"The liberal arts class next door is more suitable for him."
Ouyang was a little impatient: "I'll go back and ask him what he thinks." After saying that, she stood up and left. Perhaps she had never experienced such treatment before and could not accept it all at once.
At home, she saw Mu Jiang watering the flowers and lunch was ready.
"Why are you back so late?" Mu Jiang asked, "Didn't the parent-teacher meeting end early?" He must have heard the news from a classmate.
Ouyang was considering whether to tell him the teacher's advice or whether to tell him about her dissatisfaction with her teacher. It wasn't until dinner time that she asked, "The teacher said we're going to split the classes. Do you want to go to the arts or science department?"
"Liberal arts are better," he said. "Liberal arts are easier to learn."
She looked at him: "Do you need to change schools? Like an international school? Or if you have other ideas, that's fine too."
Mu Jiang looked at her, as if he knew what the teacher would say to her. He also knew that with her temper, she would not be able to accept being looked down upon. He shook his head and said, "No, this school is great."
"Or find a room closer to the apartment." She didn't want to meet that teacher again.
"Well," Mu Jiang put down his chopsticks, "you'd better not go to any parent-teacher conferences from now on, or you'll want to change every time you go."
Ouyang was choked by his words. This child was really precocious and knew everything.
It was then that she realized that Mu Jiang's grades were even worse than she had imagined. His only strength was his clear sense of right and wrong, never bowing to the threats of authority or evil. In other words, he had his own way of survival.
Later she took on a case that kept her busy again.
The man who came to her to investigate the truth was Acheng. At that time, he was sitting on the sofa in the basement (the basement became her and Dongya's dedicated office, but sometimes Dongya would stay there for a night), looking at a painting on the wall, trying to help them recall their experiences.
They also entered following his memories.
It wasn't a good day, with a hazy drizzle, so he had been waiting in the car for a long time. Ah Cheng wasn't a man who had enough patience to wait for others, but today was his friend Dong Yang's wedding, so he couldn't miss this bridesmaid.
Although the name Ah Tang was not unfamiliar and her grandfather had a good relationship with their family, they had only met once, and that was when they were children more than ten years ago.
It was exactly nine o'clock. Ah Tang, who had hurried downstairs, came over in the rain and got into the car: "Sorry to have kept you waiting for so long."
"Not long." He was a rather reserved person, trying not to let her notice anything unusual. If I had to use one word to describe my current feelings, it would be just one word: love at first sight.
Tang was indeed a little different from the naughty girl he remembered from his childhood. She looked much more elegant now, with her features perfectly defined. She seemed very busy, answering a few phone calls and lowering the car window, letting the rain hit her face.
When they arrived at the hotel, she was busy going to the dressing room and just said thank you. Ah Cheng wanted to follow her but was pulled aside by the groom.
"How is it?" the groom asked. "I specially arranged this Ah Tang for you. Do you like it?" Seeing that he seemed interested, the groom shook his head and continued, "What a pity. Last time I asked you to be best man, you flatly refused."
"How do you know where she lives?" Ah Cheng looked at him. He had heard people mention Ah Tang before. She had been studying abroad for many years, and no one had ever heard of her coming back.
