Finding someone wasn't too difficult for them, but the difficulty lay in their internal problems. Dongya quickly announced the news on HDA, so that any news about Tang would be reported back immediately.
After hearing the man's story, Ou Ya sat on the sofa, lost in thought. If the woman truly loved this man, why would she vanish for no apparent reason? She considered many possible explanations: kidnapped? Sick? Accident? Or taken to an unknown location? But if she had a cell phone, or some other means of communication, she should have texted him back.
"It's getting late," Shan Dongya reminded him, "Aren't you going back?"
Only then did she come back to her senses, leave the basement and drive back.
Mu Jiang was already at home. He had prepared dinner in advance as usual and was sitting on the sofa watching TV.
Ding ding ding! The phone that Mu Jiang placed on the table rang.
"Hello?" Mu Jiang answered the phone, looked at Ouyang, and then got up and went to his room. It took about ten minutes. After he finished the call, he came out and said, "My classmates asked me to attend the school party."
"Really?" she asked. "What program have you prepared?"
"Guitar singing."
"personal?"
"That's right."
She wanted to suggest that he form a band or something so that he wouldn't feel lonely going up alone, but she didn't say it because his personality, like hers, was not suitable for group life.
A simple dinner can relax people's interest. After chewing all the food, Ouyang Yi sat on the chair with a satisfied look, looking at the person opposite him. His movements were very slow, unlike most boys.
Mu Jiang naturally collected the dishes and chopsticks. She was responsible for evaluating the taste of the meal: "Not bad, another delicious meal."
Ouyang helped him sort through a few of his uniforms and noticed some rips. In her experience, they were mostly caused by contact with something hard, most likely from working at the supermarket. His name, Mu Jiang, was written on the corner of his uniform. It turned out he had a nice handwriting, which was refreshing.
Once they were done, they would just put it on the sofa and Mu Jiang would take it to his room. This was a tacit understanding they had built up between them; no one would step into the other's room, needless to say.
Later, because he often went to the basement, she had to take him to school many times. When the car stopped at the school gate, he would always meet a few friends, and then walk to the classroom shoulder to shoulder. She had no concerns about him; he was more independent than she thought.
That day, the school party specially invited some students' parents, and Ouyang was one of them.
In the basement, Dongya looked at Ouyang: "Aren't you going to attend the Mujiang School party today? Why are you here?"
"Let me take a look." Ouyang looked through some files. She was interested in the case from a few days ago. What happened to the girl named Ah Tang? She wanted to know.
Dongya was busy with his own things and had no time to take care of her, so he let her lie on the sofa and look at the guest files.
Found it, Ouyang looked at the result.
A woman named A Tang died in the hospital without any relatives by her side. She died alone without letting anyone know.
The hospital gave the result, that he had died of cancer. The day the woman learned the result was a friend's wedding, and she met Ah Cheng, and the two of them spent a few more wonderful days together.
As for why she chose to face it alone? Perhaps it was because she didn’t want the people who loved her to see her most vulnerable and lonely side.
Ouyang didn't expect this. She asked Dongya: "Does Ah Cheng know about Ah Tang's situation?"
"Yes," the man inside said loudly, "He cried all night in the hospital that night."
She arrived at the school auditorium on time, awaiting Mu Jiang's performance. When Mu Jiang appeared on stage, holding a guitar she had never seen before, a certain loneliness overwhelmed her. She wondered why Mu Jiang looked like her, with the same expression and sadness.
The song was complete, earning countless applause. Yet, she appeared backstage, carrying a bouquet of flowers. As she entered the aisle and saw groups of children ahead of her, and Mu Jiang walking alone toward her, she knew that child would never share his sorrow. Just like Tang, in his final moments, he chose to endure it alone.
"This is for you." Ouyang handed him the flowers.
He showed a rare smile on his face and asked, "How do you feel? I've been practicing for a long time."
Did he practice for a long time? But she lived with him under the same roof, yet she had never heard him play guitar or sing.
As they were about to leave the backstage, a group of girls surrounded him and gave him many gifts. Because there were so many, Ouyang helped to carry a lot of them: "Are these all your little fans?"
"I guess so!" He looked around. "Where's your car? We have to put these things away."
Ouyang took him to the parking lot, found his car, and after putting down all his belongings, a boy ran out from behind them and shouted, "Mu Jiang, the awards ceremony is about to begin. Hurry up."
"knew."
She hadn't wanted to go, but Mu Jiang pulled her away and she reentered the auditorium. Although Mu Jiang only won second prize, he was still very happy and kept taking photos with his phone. And she seemed to have become his most important witness.
Her guess didn't make sense. Mu Jiang wasn't as tough as he seemed. At least, she could faintly smell the scent of cigarettes on him.
