Grandpa lost his temper: "No matter what, I'm just like you."
"Okay, you manage it," Zhuo Qiang stopped trying to persuade him. "But I don't think Ouyang is interested in the eldest son of the Sheng family."
The two old men fell silent. They could also feel Ouyang's rejection of Sheng Yuan.
"Well," Grandpa changed his perspective, "Sheng Yuan isn't the only good man."
Zhuo Qiang was relieved to see that they were not angry. However, he still sent a text message to Ouyang, criticizing her for going too far tonight.
She parked the car beside a quiet artificial lake, got out and stood by the railing, feeling the cool breeze.
"It's so late," a voice appeared beside her ear, "Standing here alone?"
Ouyang turned around and saw in the dim light an unshaved man carrying a white bag with several cans of beer in it.
She leaned against the railing. She had never expected that she would run into Jin Lu here by such a coincidence: "Why are you here?"
Jin Lu took out a can of wine and leaned against the railing: "Come out for a walk."
"Do you live around here?"
“Not far.”
"Can I have a can?" she said.
Jin Lu opened the bag and asked her to take a can from it.
The two of them sat on the grass nearby, watching the shimmering reflections on the lake. Jin Lu took off his coat and put it on her, still caring for her like an older brother. He didn't ask why she was dressed so formally, nor did he ask why she wouldn't leave after seeing him. He just sat there quietly watching her down can after can of beer.
"I'm hungry!" She stood up. "Please treat me to a meal."
Jin Lu supported her to prevent her from falling to the ground and walked towards a nearby late-night snack shop. She ate two bowls of noodles in one breath and leaned back in the chair without moving.
In the light, Jin Lu found that she looked particularly beautiful after being drunk, and the red and white dress made her look like the person in his dream.
He took the car keys from her hand and drove back to his home, which was the place she had always been reluctant to go.
The next day, Ouyang knocked her head, found her mobile phone from the bedside, and looked at the time: "Ten o'clock!" Then she got up and found that she was not in a familiar place. She looked at the bathrobe she had changed into, "Ah!" She was scared.
"Are you awake?" Jin Lu came in from outside and saw her quickly hide in the bathroom. He said, "Breakfast is ready."
Ouyang looked at herself in the mirror. Yesterday's makeup had been removed. Thinking of drinking with Jin Lu on the grass yesterday, she scolded herself: "I'm really crazy. How could I come back with him?" She had been avoiding him the whole time.
When she came out, she found the clothes on the quilt, quickly changed them, and ran out of the room. She met Jin Lu who was eating in the living room and stood there: "Sorry to bother you!"
"Ouyang!" Jin Lu called her, "Can't you just have breakfast with Big Brother?"
"Brother Jin Lu?" She turned her head. "Have you thought it through?" She remembered that Jin Lu had once had a falling out with his family because of her.
"Have a meal!"
"Uh." She shrugged, sat opposite him, and looked around. Just as her godmother and godfather had said, the house was full of her photos and portraits.
Seeing that she didn't move her chopsticks, Jin Lu asked, "What's wrong?"
"Brother," she asked, "have you really let it go?"
Jin Lu lowered his head to eat, then raised his head again after a while: "Just like when we were little, we are just ordinary brother and sister."
"That's fine!" She ate and helped wash the dishes.
Jin Lu turned on the TV, and it happened to be playing a photo of Sheng Da being slapped by Ouyang at the Sheng Group's banquet last night. The news kept emphasizing the marriage transaction between the Sheng Group and the Zhuo Group, but the person was not Sheng Da, but Sheng Yuan, the eldest son of the Sheng Group.
Ouyang came out and saw the news on TV: "Is this also being broadcast?"
Jin Lu didn't ask her what happened, but just said, "The Zhuo family is much more complicated than ours." As for what exactly he meant by complicated, perhaps only he himself knew.
Ouyang nodded: "Indeed, grandpa and grandma are busy looking for a good family for me."
"You agreed?" Jin Lu blurted out.
"This is good news," at least it helped her solve Sheng Yuan's problem, "I have to go."
Jin Lu didn't see her off, but just sat on the sofa and responded, "Yeah."
She left the house, feeling a bit strange about Jin Lu, but at least she felt much more comfortable than before. She wrote down the address, planning to send something to express her gratitude next time.
Back in the basement, Dongya had been waiting for her all night: "Where have you been?"
"Jin Lujia," she told the truth, "is drunk."
Seeing that she was fine, Dong Ya felt relieved and showed her a new case: "Recently, a female corpse was found in an abandoned factory."
Ouyang became interested and listened to his detailed description:
The deceased was named Amei, an outsider in her twenties. She was found by a scavenger the night after her death and the case was reported to the police.
"Where is the body now?"
"Public Security Bureau." Dong Ya said.
"Go to the morgue," Ouyang immediately went out, "take your things with you."
"Hey," Dongya quickly took the computer, "We don't have their consent yet."
But Ouyang didn't care about these things. She was already impatient to know the truth and the murderer behind the crime.
When they arrived quickly, they were stopped outside: "This is where we handle cases. No one is allowed to come in."
