Chapter 132: Rock Farm

It was only when he met Ouyang and the others that Mu Jiang realized the helplessness Xia Yue felt. As mothers of two children who hadn't yet started families, Wang Yao's preference for Jin Lu was obvious to everyone. Even Xia Yue's father, who had always supported her, couldn't go against Wang Yao's wishes.

Mother Wang took the flowers from Xia Yue and nagged, "Are you so willing to stay in this place? Give up your previous job? Become a farmer?" It was obvious that she was not satisfied with her youngest son's behavior.

Because of Wang Yao's attitude, Mu Jiang didn't have much good impression of her, and even felt that this mother might never understand her son's thoughts.

Father Xia felt his wife's tone was a bit harsh, so he quickly tried to mediate: "Aren't we here on vacation? Why are you still acting like you're at home?"

Mother Wang had no choice but to keep silent and get in the car with them.

Ouyang walked between Mu Jiang and Xia Yue: "Did this kid cause you any trouble?"

"I've only been here for a day," Mu Jiang said, "How can I cause any trouble?"

"Mu Jiang thought of me as his elder brother yesterday, and as an elder brother, I'm not afraid of trouble."

Ouyang glanced at Mu Jiang and said, "You're quite good at making connections."

"That depends on who they are," Mu Jiang glanced at the three people walking not far behind, "I just think they're a bit annoying."

Wang Yao called Ouyang from the back and asked her to help carry some things. She asked Ouyang and Jin Lu to stand together, hoping they would talk. But they couldn't say anything. Ouyang no longer understood him. Moreover, he was always involved in art and music, so she couldn't find other topics to talk about.

After getting in the car, Wang Yao let Mu Jiang sit in the passenger seat and let Ouyang sit next to Jin Lu. Then she sat in the car with satisfaction and talked about some family matters: "The environment here is really good. It's very clean everywhere."

"That's right," Mu Jiang said, "How can something bad be worthy of Brother Xia Yue's approval?"

"That's all he's capable of." This was Wang Yao's accumulated resentment. Who had made him abandon everything and come to this remote place? She didn't believe that such an ambitious person would be willing to stay in this place for the rest of his life.

Jin Lu carefully studied everything here. It seemed to him that his younger brother had always done the same things as him since he was little. Yet, he always performed them with such skill, so skillfully that no one doubted his ability. Although they grew up together, he, as the older brother, had never truly entered his heart. In comparison, Xia Yue and Mu Jiang were more like brothers when they were together, their hearts connected.

"Jin Lu," Wang Yao turned her attention to her eldest son, "I didn't ask you to come here to be a taciturn person. Why don't you say a few words?"

Jin Lu looked out the window. He actually didn't want to come, and he didn't even want to see Ouyang sitting next to him with a helpless look. Her indifference had made him desperate. Instead of meeting each other and not talking about anything, he would rather stay far away from her. At least he still had good memories. But his mother wouldn't think so. She always felt that he was a big problem. At Jin Lu's age, most people were already married and had their own children, but he didn't. Jin Lu knew what his mother was thinking. She felt that it was because of Ouyang that her eldest son didn't want to get married, so she had to make sure they were together no matter what. As long as the eldest son married Ouyang, the younger son would give up, and then he would be able to find someone to live a normal life.

"Mom," Jin Lu said, "I think this place is suitable for retirement. When you and Dad are old, you can live here. It's great."

Wang Yao was a little dissatisfied: "Are you complaining that your father and I aren't annoying enough? You're just sitting here doing nothing. Do you think we should grow vegetables here or raise chickens and ducks?"

Ouyang was amused. This was the first joke she had heard from this serious family in such a long time.

"What's wrong with raising chickens and ducks?" Mu Jiang said, "I think it's good. At least no one will go hungry."

"Children, don't interrupt when adults are talking," Wang Yao criticized harshly. She wasn't just being harsh on Mu Jiang; she treated everyone the same way because she was the authority in the family.

Mu Jiangxiang wanted to say something, but swallowed it back. He thought, his mother is not like this, she is also an unreasonable person. He comforted himself by saying that men don't argue with women, especially those who are older.

They soon arrived at their destination. Mu Jiang was sent downstairs to live with Xia Yue. Jin Lu lived in a room on the second floor to the west, across from Ouyang.

In fact, Mu Jiang helped to arrange for Ouyang to live in the room on the second floor on the east side.

He carried Ouyang's luggage and said, "The room on the second floor on the east side is suitable for you, Ouyang. Just sit there and I'll take your things over."

At that time, Wang Yao hadn't even officially inspected the layout of the house, so she let Mu Jiang arrange it haphazardly. But to her satisfaction, Ouyang and Jin Lu lived across the street. She didn't say anything and went along with Mu Jiang's decision to move into the second floor.

What Mother Wang didn't expect was that if she wanted things to develop according to her plan, Mu Jiang would be her biggest obstacle.

While everyone was resting, Father Xia took the initiative to take on the responsibility of cooking and patiently listened to his son's introduction, understanding the layout of the entire farm. He longed for such a life, enjoying these beautiful things in a self-sufficient way.

When they got here, Ouyang and Jin Lu were arranged by Mother Wang to dig some fresh bamboo shoots from the bamboo forest in the mountains, while Xia Yue and Mu Jiang were sent by her to go fishing, and she insisted on making a meal of boiled fish fillets by herself.

"Don't you think your mother did this on purpose?" Mu Jiang sat by the pond, staring at the motionless water. "She let Jin Lu accompany Ouyang and let us fish here. Is she afraid we'll ruin their chance to be alone together? This old lady is really shrewd."
