Chapter 143: Box and Painting

The next day, a mysterious courier was delivered to the office.

"Sir!" He Er's secretary handed the package to him, "Someone called and sent you something."

"Open!" He Er put down the document in his hand.

The secretary carefully opened it and took out a wrapped mahogany box. Thinking of Ouyang yesterday, he asked, "Isn't this the box from yesterday?"

Inside was a greeting card that read, "Mr. He, I apologize for my reckless behavior yesterday. This box originally belonged to the He family, so it's yours now."

He Er opened the box, and sure enough, the painting inside was gone. "Have you got any information about that woman you asked me to investigate?"

"Sir," the secretary said, somewhat embarrassed, "for some reason, after seeing that woman's photo, none of the detectives are willing to take over the case."

"The detective agency?"

"Not only are the people at the detective agency unwilling to take over, they've started investigating us instead."

"It seems this woman has some background," He Er said, "You should hand the things over to the people in the collection department."

"yes!"

"Forget it," He Er said, "just send it back to my home." Although the management of the firm are all from the He family, and there are many people with the surname He, only he and his father know the story of this box.

"yes."

He Er's father was also surprised when he saw the box: "He Er, where did you get this thing?"

"A woman."

The word "woman?" seemed to have disappeared from the He family for a long time. Apart from the aunt who cleaned the room, there were no other women in the He family.

"Her name?"

"Ouyang," He Er said, "is the goddaughter of the old man of the Zhuo family. As for the others, we are still unclear." This information was also obtained by people in the office from the news agency. It seems that the power behind her is not just the Zhuo family.

"Zhuo family? Is that the Zhuo Group?"

“That’s right!”

He Er's father had been out of touch with the world for a long time, but he still knew a little about the Zhuo Group. Although the Zhuo Group had no dealings with them, its strength was far superior to theirs.

He Er's men found Ouyang's residence and parked his car outside the villa. After seeing Long and his group leave with a girl who was going to school, they got out of the car.

He Er's assistant followed him out toward the main door. The door was open, and they could easily get in. The assistant looked around but didn't see anyone else. The entire house was very quiet.

"Is anyone there?" the assistant called out. Such a big house should have several people cleaning the room, but now there is no one there. Could they have all gone out?

"Who is it?" The voice came from upstairs. Ouyang slowly walked downstairs. She had just woken up and was about to go downstairs to find something to eat. Of course, more importantly, she came to see these two people.

"Ms. Ouyang," the assistant said, "we saw that the door was not closed, so we came in on our own."

"It's okay, didn't you wait outside for half an hour?" She went to the kitchen to get milk and bread.

The assistant muttered, "How did she know we'd been waiting outside for half an hour? Could there be a camera installed outside?"

His other speculations were similar, but He Er felt that Ouyang's methods were more than just these. Judging from her lack of surprise at seeing him, she knew he would come today. So, her spies were truly omnipresent.

"Please sit down!"

The three of them arrived at the living room. The simple furnishings and the owner's casualness also highlighted the casualness of the house.

The two sat across from her, not knowing how to approach her as she ate her breakfast so nonchalantly. Only the assistant spoke up, "Ms. Ouyang, the lighting here is quite good."

Ouyang smiled and said, "It's really nice. You can see the sunrise and sunset here. However, you can ask some other questions, such as why did I give you the box? Or how much do I know about you? Or maybe you want to know something about me."

He Er never dealt with women; this was his long-standing habit. In his opinion, they were not very smart and their thoughts were very simple, except for appearance and money.

His disdain made Ouyang a little unhappy. She leaned on the sofa and stared at the two men: "You two have come uninvited. If they just want to see where I live? Or continue to sit there without talking, I don't think I need to sit here any longer." It was obvious that she was targeting He Er. His condescending expression was really annoying.

The assistant looked at He Er and saw that he was about to speak, so he stood up and walked out of the house and stood in the garden outside.

"What is your purpose in sending the box?" He Er asked.

"It's a gift, what's the purpose?"

"And the picture?"

"The painting?" She looked at him. "Of course the painting is still with me."

"Then please name your price."

"It's a pity I don't plan to sell it!" Ouyang said with a smile, "You are really an interesting person. I gave you something, but you didn't thank me and wanted to get something else from me. Isn't this considered greedy?"

"You can name a price. I'll buy the box and the painting together." He had already taken out the check and was waiting for her to name a price.

"What a pity! I burned the painting last night."

He Er looked at her with wide eyes. This woman really didn't know what was good for her, or maybe she just didn't know anything. He tried not to get angry, and asked through gritted teeth, "Is it really as you said?"

"To be honest, I don't have many hobbies. I just like to joke around." She went into another room, took out the painting, and placed it in front of him. "The painting is right here. If you really want to take it, then take it."
